Life-saving status badge on AIDS drug may help Glaxo reap benefits
Glaxo India is expected to reap in substantial "cost benefits" following the shift of anti-AIDS bulk drug zidovudine to the life-saving drugs category. Zidovudine would now attract zero customs duty as against the earlier concessional levy of 20%.
Centre woos L&T to partner Engineers India
The Government is believed to be exploring the option of roping in Larsen & Toubro as a strategic partner to Engineers India (EIL) during the disinvestment process. This would be in addition to offering the Indian Oil Corporation 26% of the Centre's stake in EIL.
Thomson thinks local, lays eyes on India to cater ot south-east Asia
French electronics group Thomson Consumer Electronics plans to develop India as a major export hub to replace Thailand for catering to south-east Asian markets. As part of its strategy to consolidate in the country, Thomson will soon flood the market with a wide range of CTVs and audio and video disc players.
