Kinetic modifies 2-wheelers for Kargil war heroes

Huma Siddiqui
As a gesture of solidarity, Arun H Firodia, chairman and managing director of the Kinetic group of companies, presented the first lot of modified Kinetic scooters to Lt Gen. S S Grewal, adjutant general of the the Indian Army, on August 30.

Air Chief Marshal Moolgavkar (Retd), who is a director of the Kinetic Motor Co Ltd, and Mohd Juned, representing the Kinetic employees, also presented the special scooters to the Indian Army. The scooters were then handed over individually to soldiers who had fought for the country in Kargil and received injuries that had disabled them. The scooters the Kinetic group handed over last week are part of 50 such specially designed scooters, which are being donated to the Indian Army for the rehabilitation of the war heroes of Kargil.

The modified scooters have special features like push button start (no kick required), variomatic drive with accelerator control (no clutch or gear change required), brakes on handle bar (no need to use the foot brake), two additional wheelsfor stability and a centrally mounted engine to ensure better balance for the rider. These modifications have been made keeping in mind the particular requirements of disabled/paraplegic persons.

Speaking on the occasion, Firodia said, ``The Kargil war is a splendid victory for our armed forces. It has united the entire nation as never before and once again proved that we are Indians first, and ready for any sacrifice for our motherland. As a token of our gratitude, we are presenting specially modified Kinetic scooters, which will go a long way in the speedy rehabilitation of the brave soldiers of the Kargil war.''

All the employees of the Kinetic group of companies have contributed towards this noble cause. The total value of scooters being presented by Kinetic is Rs 20 lakh.Kinetic group of companies is a leading two-wheeler manufacturer in India,
