2 women die in road accidents in city

Chandigarh In two different accidents that took place in the city on Diwali, two women residents of Chandigarh lost their lives while they were on their way home to Chandigarh.

Amandeep Kaur, a resident of Sector 20, was on her way home from Mohali with her husband Amit Sharma after celebrating Diwali at a relative’s home in Mohali. The couple was in a car when the accident took place at midnight.

The accident took place near the light point of Colony Number 5, when a speeding bus bearing a registration number of Himachal Pradesh hit the car and Amit Sharma immediately informed the UT police.

The bus was driven by Chain Sharma, a resident of Kangra. Amandeep Kaur was severely injured and was taken to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32 where she was declared dead on arrival. Amandeep was the mother of one child and the police officials say that she was approximately 30 years of age.

In another incident, 62-year-old Pushpa Rani, a resident of Burail was on a motor cycle with Varinder Singh when a pick-up van being driven by Ramesh, a resident of Industrial Area, Phase-9, Mohali hit the two-wheeler at 6.30 pm in the evening.

Police officials say that Pushpa was returning home after buying some milk from Colony Number 5.

The accident took place at the road dividing Sector 44-45 in which Pushpa Rani, the pillion rider got injured and was taken to GMCH-32 where she succumbed to her injuries. The post-mortem report ascertained that a head injury was the cause of her death.

Both the drivers, Ramesh, the driver of the pick up van that hit Pushpa and Chain Sharma, the driver of the bus leading to Sector 43 ISBT were arrested by the police and were later released on bail.
