Mumbai A 32-year-old woman was arrested today for allegedly ramming her luxury BMW car into an autorickshaw under the influence of alcohol in suburban Mankhurd, injuring four persons, including a woman, seriously, police said.

According to Police, Aarti Shetty driving the BMW at a very high speed lost control and rammed the vehicle into an autorickshaw, injuring its occupants early this morning.

The occupants of the autorickshaw were identified as Mohammed Ali, his wife Mobina Zahir Ali and their son Mohammed Raza. Mobina is currently in the ICU with head injuries while Ali and Raza, along with the auto driver Nasir Sayyed, are out of danger, the police said.

Shetty, who was going towards Navi Mumbai at around 4.30 am, did not stop her vehicle even after hitting the auto and tried to flee from the scene only to hit a dumper parked on the street.

The cops arrested Aarti Shetty who was accompanied by her two female friends sitting on the back seat.

"There is a police chowky a few metres away from the scene of the accident and the noise of the impact caught the attention of the police on duty at the time. They rushed to the spot and held the three women in the BMW," said an officer with the Mankhurd police.

The three women, visibly inebriated, were taken to the Rajawadi hospital for a medical check-up and subsequently to the police station, he said.

In the meantime, Shetty's lawyer reached the police station soon after she was taken there.

"All we know at this point is that Shetty is the owner of the BMW and she stays in Chembur. She did not answer many questions on her lawyer's advice. Doctors have confirmed inebriation and Shetty has been charged with causing injury due to rash and negligent driving as well as for driving under the influence of alcohol," said Shankarsingh Rajput, senior inspector, Mankhurd police station.
