Air chief Browne's stern warning to Pak: India will consider other options if ceasefire violation continues

New Delhi Asserting that repeated ceasefire violations by Pakistan are "unacceptable", IAF chief Air Chief Marshal NAK Browne today warned that India may have to look at "some other options for compliance" if such incidents continue.

"We have a Line of Control, we have a ceasefire agreement, we have certain structures and mechanisms which are sacrosanct and any violation of these with impunity especially what has been happening in the last few months is totally unacceptable.

"We are monitoring the situation carefully because if these things continue to be the way they are and these violations continue to take place, then perhaps we may have to look at some other options for compliance," he told reporters here on the sidelines of an NCC function.

The IAF Chief, who is the senior most armed forces officer in the country, was asked about the suggestions he has given to the political leadership on the brutal killing of two Indian soldiers by Pakistan Army.

Refusing to divulge the options being looked at by the government, he said, "Options are options. We do not discuss these options openly. If the violations continue, we may have to look at the whole issue all over again."

Asked how would the military leadership uphold the honour of soldiers such as the two jawans killed by Pakistan Army, he said, "When you join the armed forces, you hold certain ethos, values and certain traditions of the country which you have to uphold."

On January 8, Pakistan Army regulars had infiltrated inside Indian territory in Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir and killed and mutilated bodies of Lance Naiks Sudhakar Singh and Hemraj there.

India has also been raising the issue of rising number of ceasefire violations by Pakistan in the last one year.

Asked about his message to NCC cadets who may later on join the armed forces, he said: “If you join the armed forces, you hold certain values, you hold certain ethos, certain traditions of the country, which we have to uphold and that’s the kind of oath that you take, when you join the armed forces.

“My message to the youth who want to join the armed forces is that hen they do so, they would be treated honourably, they would be taken care of and we will make sure that everything is available for them in meeting their operational task.”

Earlier on Friday, Defence Minister A K Antony had assured that enough troops have been deployed at the Line of Control (LoC) and the government is taking all steps to protect the nation's interests and prestige of the armed forces.

India should suspend all ties with Pakistan by Sharath cs on 15 Jan 2013

The killing of two Indian soldiers by beheading of one by Pakistan army which they crossed line of control is barbaric and henious crime. It is unpardonable .It is shocking that there has been 117 cases of ceasefire violations by Pakistan in 2012. India is slow and inadequate in responding to criminal act.India has to suspend sporting ties, friendly bus services and bilateral talks.Pakistan should dismantle terrorist training camps in their soil and handover terrorists wanted for India. Pakistan government is always in denial and keep repeating crimes. India should retaliate with equal force.

India may have some other options opened said senior chief army personalle by dr.; udai narain sinha on 13 Jan 2013

For both the Jawans who lost their lives for the sake of MotherIndia, I remember the song sung by respected Asha bhosale Ji: "Jo Samar Main hogaye amar hama unaki yaad maingaarahen hain eka shraddha geeta unaki yaad main" Those who have immortalised themselves in the war for the country, we sing the song for their rememberance to pay them our homage. This is indian feeling and the feeling of humanity and if senior air chief martial talks for other option against the violating human values by the opponent country, he deserves all appreciation. May All Mighty give peace to both the departed souls and a courage to their families for the loss they have had out of their kinsmen's physical disappearance and also may He give wisdom to our leaders to face this unfortunate challange wisely and intelligently. In the last I would like to quote some words from "Prithviraj Raso" for our political men" "Loans, fire and enemies gradually increase if they are left"

ACTION PLEASE! by JB on 12 Jan 2013

Come on, Sir! For heaven's sake please ACT. Pakistan is just not bothered about what you say. They are confident India cannot act and that confidence has to be broken. ARE YOU READY?

Air chief Browne's stern warning to Pak: India will consider other options if ceasefire violation continues by Vinod Gulati on 12 Jan 2013

I support hon'ble Air Chief Browne for his stern warning to Pakistan. He is right to say that we have got other options too if Pakistan continues to violate the LOC. We need to see the ground realities and take action accordingly.

LOC issue by Prakash D Kadam on 12 Jan 2013

We wanted peace in our country, if any body trouble again and again to our country than you have to think necessary action and prompt opinion from our expert of armed forces, what to do and how to take action on this issues...and bust up to our soldiers and civilian to fight against such of nonsense activities...Jaihind

We need an assurance that there wont be any repetition of such an act in the Future by Gaurav on 12 Jan 2013

If Mr. Browne really wants the youth to join the forces then he and all other Defense chiefs should protest against the Government for making our soldiers die for nothing. What about the Hendesron-Brookes-Bhagat report sir? Please compel the Government to bring it out in the Public Domain. I do have the right to read it coz I am the Tax-payer of this country and I hold my soldiers in the highest regards. If you top guys really want the politicians to be held accountable then you have to take some harsh steps. Anyway, the enemy within is more dangerous than the enemy across the border. These pakis are cowards...they can be brought to book at the time and place we may please. But what about these real culprits- so-called elected representatives. It is very tough to clean up the system!! Anyway, I would like to thank you for standing up and letting the Public know that we would be replying to those pakistani cowards.

Ostriches (GOI) hide their heads in th sand. by Dr. Avneesh Tyagi on 12 Jan 2013

I tried to keep cool many times whenever any of our army men or citizen is killed by Pakistan army or terrorist, thinking that being sentimental will bring no outcome. However, the impotence of the GOI and mundane statement given by the officials in response to such a delicate matter just drives me crazy to the top. I feel helpless with nothing but a lot of anger and my heart cry for the family of the martyr soldiers. I have been listening to these empty talks since our army men were slaughtered along LOC. Common! Give me a %u2018F%u2019 break! The GOI has failed so miserably to tackle this issue effectively. Even army itself either seems to be bound with some %u2018shit%u2019 regulations or just showing the lethargic behavior. Millions of dollars are being spent to modernize the army and still they claim that it was due to foggy situation. I don%u2019t think we can blame Pakistan when our own defense was not strong enough. It reminds me of a saying from my grandmother that if you leave your belongings unattended, the thief will steal it anyway.

Air Chiefs warning ti Pak by PMGPillai on 12 Jan 2013

If the media report is true then it was an unwanted view and it will only increase the tension between the two.It is for the cabinet to decide on a plan of action after gathering all intelligence and analyzing the matter.Military leaders in India should not express in this maner because that will add fuel to fire dated Saturday January 12th 2013 Time 1450 Hrs ist

Eternal Silence by JB on 12 Jan 2013

Do you think there is anyone in the government has a God given tongue which can be used to communicate? There is NONE. And hence the eternal silence from this government on every issue, howsoever maddening it may be for the common man. Still Air Chief Marshal Browne spoke, may be he will be pulled up for having done so. We are in a crazy situation where a country on the verge of bankruptcy is threatening India with war!

Air Chief's warning by SSBhalla on 12 Jan 2013

I completely agree with PMGPillai's observation. Why are our armed forces sabre-rattling and making a tense situation worse? I think they have to be put under firmer political control. Irresponsible TV reporting as well needs to be brought under firmer control in this situation.
