Ajit Pawar resignation: Nephew emerges from uncle’s shadow

Mumbai An internal war has been brewing within the NCP for a long time, and Ajit Pawar, nephew of party chief Sharad Pawar, who is being targeted for alleged large-scale corruption in irrigation projects, has struck now. The junior Pawar’s decision to quit all ministerial posts is being seen by many as his coming of age in state politics.

In fact, the NCP chief himself was caught unawares when all other NCP ministers in the state government decided to follow Ajit Pawar’s example and submitted their resignations to party chief Madhukar Pichad later in the evening. For the first time perhaps, Pawar sought to assert himself and said his “word is final” in the party’s decisions. “No other NCP minister will resign from the government,” he said, even after the resignations had been submitted.

The first indication of a rift between Ajit and Sharad Pawar showed two years ago when the NCP chief preferred Chhagan Bhujbal for the deputy chief minister's position. Ajit had then obtained the support of 60 of the 62 NCP MLAs. The two who stayed away were Chhagan Bhujbal and his MLA son. Ajit Pawar had his way.

Tensions in the party were simmering with insiders stating that Ajit Pawar resented his uncle for promoting his daughter Supriya Sule as his political heir. The junior Pawar has gradually established his political clout not just in Western Maharashtra but also in some Congress strongholds such as Konkan, where he brought Shiv Sena leader Bhaskar Jadhav into the NCP fold and gave Narayan Rane a scare. In fact, it is now more or less settled that Sule will handle the party’s affairs in New Delhi whereas Ajit would strengthen the party in the state.

Many in the party say that he will be the choice for the chief minister's chair if the NCP gets the numbers in 2014. He has always been uspet about the fact that in 1999, when the NCP emerged the single largest party in Maharashtra, the chief minister’s post was still taken by the Congress. He has never missed out on an opportunity to take a swipe at Prithviraj Chavan either. Even on Tuesday, without taking names, he said, “I do not keep files pending for months. It is necessary to take decisions on proposals early and that is my style for work. Therefore I do not agree with the allegations of hasty decisions being made against me.”

Since the Prithviraj Chavan cabinet was formed in 2010, Ajit has tried to position himself as the more efficient of the two —replying to questions in the Assembly with aplomb, calling meetings of all departments as finance minister and forging tie-ups with the BJP-Sena across the state.

Today, he emerged out of Sharad Pawar’s shadow.

Uncle and Nephew by G.Dwarakanath on 26 Sep 2012

The Leaders has lost all morality in Politics in case we compares with our old leaders. NCP, RJD ,JDS, Lok dals and even Congrss are seems to be connected with family structure as any thing good or bad happends to the leader affects the existance of Parties. So in this context the followers decides to find out an alternative in Shri Pawers family.

NEPHEW´S CORRUPTION ON BACK OF UNCLE MINISTER´S INFLUENCE by SKonikkara on 26 Sep 2012

India should detect a better system of democracy or even not democracy as it worsens day by day on power,money,corrup- tion, nepotism black mail. All these root causes of the Indian politic atmosperic pollution and the warming must be controlled or eradicated by the common people only because, Indian politics predominated by democratical election of the so called political parties on which all the ongoing crimes are generated. So we should contemplate and pondering to make a strategy to over come such a system which cann´t be joined together with the common man after election of the parties. Therefore , we should make a changed move to recom- mend such a person to uphold his principles of abjuring a thing in one word of CORRUPTION out of which all the aforesaid crime originated and encourage him or some other options are left to elect Bengal CM or Gujrat CM in the coming up gen elections in 2014, for which a frame work should be unitedly started by the majority of the common people.

The main reason for all this is the main parties cannot stand ontheir own legs.Be it congress or the BJP.These family concerns of kanrunnithi or Sarad pawar black mail the country .Extract more and more advantage for their near n dear ones. It is money n muscle power which is ruling the country. It is very bad. Pawar frauds by Subbu on 26 Sep 2012

Entire Pawars in politics should be locked up either at Tihar or mental asylum at Bihar. They have polluted indian democracy to an level that it cannot be brought back to normalcy. Root cause of most of the problems is Sharad Pawar. The earlier he departs, the better for nation.

Integrity by Chandrakant Marathe on 26 Sep 2012

It is a sad commentary of India's journalism when a news paper report gives more important to politics than a huge corruption. The editorial should have been on the corruption of Ajit Pawar but the pro congress editor chose to scribble trash lines on NCP's internal politics as if the drama is just politics and not corruption.
