The quiet but determined plan to execute 26/11 villain Ajmal Kasab was set in motion the night of Monday, soon after the prisoner on death row had had his dinner at Mumbai's Arthur Road jail.

Mumbai The quiet but determined plan to execute 26/11 villain Ajmal Kasab was set in motion the night of Monday, soon after the prisoner on death row had had his dinner at Mumbai's Arthur Road jail.

Kasab was guided to a police vehicle at night and a discreet convoy tracked it till it reached Pune's Yerwada Jail. Not a soul knew as no updates were shot out on wireless. Even the guards ferrying him to Yerwada did not know who their prisoner was.

The entire operation from Monday night to 7.30 am on Wednesday morning – when Ajmal Kasab was hanged – was carried out by a squad of chosen IPS officers.

A similar close-guarded squad of the Maharashtra police officers had seen to the burial of the rest of Kasab's militant squad of nine four years ago.

A specific standard operating procedure was planned in this case soon after the Supreme Court upheld Kasab's death penalty.

Ajmal Kasab has also been buried in Pune's Yerwada jail.

Meanwhile, it was no less ironic that the day Ajmal Kasab was hanged, three bravehearts of 26/11 were felicitated by a television channel. 13-year-old Devika Rotawan, who was shot in her leg and later testified in court against Kasab, was felicitated at the event by former director general of police, Maharashtra Dr P S Pasricha. She said: "I am very happy that Kasab was hanged. I had seen Kasab fire away at the Victoria Terminus and he was laughing remorselessy. All terrorists should meet this end. My only regret is that I could not see him die. When I grow up, I want to be an IPS officer so I can fight all such terrorists."

Also felicitated was V D Zende, the announcer at VT who alerted the crowd at the platforms once the firing started on 26/11. "The most important thing is public awareness. If the people in VT that day would not have been alerted, many others would have died. Every single person including youngsters must be aware and alert,” Zende said.

Photojournalist Sebastian Dsouza, who had photographed Kasab killing people, was also felicitated at the event.

is it true? Kasab Hanged by kas on 22 Nov 2012

I am sorry to say that tax payers money of Rs 41 crores has been spent on security of Ajmal Kasab. i don't know why? I have one more doubt, process of hanging were kept secret. No media person even no jail officials were present. What it shows. I think no one was hanged or if some one hanged ,who was that? Where is Ksab gone? Why the body of Kasab not shown to the media? There should be inquiry of the full episode

I salute to those officers who carried out this challenging operation secretly otherwise there would have so many hallagulla, debates on channels NGOs and human right activists will come out with placards and entire plan could be washed out. Anyhow All those involved in this operation really deserve hearty appreciation. Jai Hind

Too late by Rajesh Reddy on 21 Nov 2012

This punishment is too little and too late .There is nothing for us to rejoice about it as he deserved a more painful death rather than death just by hanging. He should have been shredded to pieces and thrown in Arabian Sea or even more painful that even his soul would think twice for taking next form of birth. JAI HIND JAI BHARATH.

Smart thing to do by Rohit on 21 Nov 2012

With all the hue and cry over hanging kasab as soon as possible, people do not realise why he was kept alive so long: dead men tell no tales. More valuable than the money spent on keeping him alive is the information extracted out of him...THAT is why he was kept alive. That he would be executed was not (or should not have been) in doubt, but the information that Indian security agencies must have got from him might be invaluable to India's security. Information, not weapons, is key to winning any war.

Terorrist by naveen on 21 Nov 2012

Hang afzal guru asap . INDIA must adopt 0% tollrence against terorrism. Just like Modi adopted in Gujrat. Beleive it or not it's a Gujrat election impact.
