Fast reduction Fasting, and activists are not always good governance people. by DrMS on 05 Nov 2012

I admire Anna's fervor and commitment. But sometimes activists are not good leaders or good at governance. They know how to respond to a pressing problem and passionately respond with dramatic statements or actions (like self immolation or fasting). But governing is more than an emotional protest with a dare to fast. Governance requires detailed knowledge of policy issues and how to implement patiently, firmly and at many levels of community need and programs. Anna needs to stop thinking that "self immolation and perpetual fasting" is the way to solve problems. This is a kind of narcissism that comes from emotionally needy or attention-seeking men. Once in a while is fine...but this tendency to turn any disagreement or dissatisfaction into perpetual protests, burning buses, self immolation and fasting needs to stop...or at least reduce in numbers and frequency. We need smart strong ethical people to live long, and become socially effective.

another by kewal sethi on 04 Aug 2012

launching of another party is not going to make a difference to the polity. either they will be marginalised or become as corrupt as others. what we were expecting was a movement. movements do not succeed in days or months or even years. gandhi started his movement in 1919 but country had to wait for 28 years to get independence and that too at the terms which british laid down. likewise corruption cannot be uprooted by fasting for a few days. my formula would have been - agitiate for days; rest; come back after a few years and have a stronger agitation. in between do organising. may be after four or five paralysing the government for days or weeks would have impact.

Some food for thought for The Decision by U.S.Rawat on 03 Aug 2012

Team Anna should rather remain, and grow stronger, as a force to prompt & support the honest persons into active politics. It can fill this vital gap in our politics. It can be a slow remedy, if a major operation of our sick system is not feasible at the moment. Today, the voter is not conditioned to stand for his own long term gains. Knowingly or unknowingly, he is still a bystander of his own misery. Otherwise, by now he would have been on streets, shaking the government well & everywhere. Honesty is no match for the dirty skills & resources that political crooks use to fool the highly divided voter. Parties began by good people are cesspools of low politics today, and one reason is that, NUMBERS and QUALITY do not go together in our set up. Today, Anna is our biggest hope. Many people have faith, and many more sitting on the fence have deep interest in his movement. If lost, India may not get such opportunity again. So, entry into direct politics does not seems OK.

They are doing what is told. by Vadivelu on 03 Aug 2012

Please do not blame Annji and other team members for this fiasco. They are simpley doing what is told by their bosses ( BJP ) as they have been doing so far . Day by day Digvijay singh is proved correct assesment of this self righteous lot.

Rising star by Thajudeen PMK on 03 Aug 2012

Crores and crores of Indians are waiting for strong leaders to emerge, not just to replace the existing ones but to make them feel and react for their shameful, disgusting act of corruption right from the top positions irrespective of cadres to the bottom. While political leaders and executive officers making millions the poor farmer who is really working to feed others dying without food. Hope Anna team will make poor peoples dream comes true.

It was unfortunate, but the present govt as well as the opposition is not in favour of a strong lok pal bill by Umesh on 03 Aug 2012

We in India already have a lakhs of political parties national, regional, religious, cast based etc etc. But all of them are the worshipers of corruption, like Mayawati, a mee school teacher has now the assets of thousands of crores, like wise Pawar i think he himself wont be knowing where al his moneies are lyaing around, in all which countries and how much. There are others too who just got into politics just to make a fortunes not only for themselves but \for their ten generations to come, Sheela Dixit is not an exeption. Thus, we, the Indias, had lost all or hopes of getting the country to the main stream and development, has now being got rebirth by the anouncement of Anaji's political alternative. Yes, there are lakhs of people in our own county who can and are already working for the betterment of the people in various ways. Satyameva Jayate of Aamir had shown us innumerable individuals work for the society. They are all as good candidates like Annaji for this country bright fut

Kejriwal making fool of people through their honesty farce by manoj on 03 Aug 2012

Anna is being misguided to say the least, and people of this country are being fooled by Arvind Kejriwal and some people who support his political desire. He and his group had no support to win elections. So an upright man like Anna Ji was thrown as weapon and people gathered behind him. Slowly, Arvind started taking over , forcing their ideology on Anna ji. Those who tried to oppose were shown the door. Is it a democratic process? Journalist have joined them. This is more lucrative business for them. Really shameful act. Since they had political ambitions , they should have come out straight. Why claim earleir that this is not a political movement? They are making fool of common men suffering under corruption, but those who tell lies can never be trusted to fight corruption. All of you out there, please come out of being guided by twits, facebook or missed calls tactics. I know this system is new, and we are being carried away by this new technology. So open your eyes.

Such ignorance by Vinod on 03 Aug 2012

Your comment shows the extent to which you know about the actual events, the extent to which the Congress lies, misstated information and damaged the effort to fight corruption. You also seem completely unaware of how the press supported the Congress in denigrating the activists. Unfortunately, it is people like you who support the persons who are robbing the children of this country of a safe future.

Anna entering politics will benefit congress in 2014 elections by Jogesh on 03 Aug 2012

ANNA's team getting in politics is not at all good. This is what congress wanted because they will have strong benefits in 2014. You know how!!! most of the voters in favour of BJP will be now divided. There will be no effect on Congress voters because most of these voters are illiterate, vote for money, and has nothing to do with our countries progress.

Hollowness in the Head . by Goundamany on 03 Aug 2012

Mr.Yogesh,Your assumption that all Congress supporters are illiterate only proves that all poor are with Congress and the socalled litterate and elite peploe are with BJP .This is exactly drives us support Congress and we will continue to do so.Another staetement of yours say that illiterate have nothing to do with the progress , proves the fact that you have hollowness in your Head , I am sure you must be from the meritorious lot .

Fast has become obsolete by Jayaram on 03 Aug 2012

This is cyber era, not a Gandhian. Anna's aides have to sweat to gather crowds. The system is in the hands of corrupt party people. Gandhian way of protests can not correct these people. If Anna can really provide a workable alternative to the major political parties, people will certainly welcome and support it.

TEAM ANNA by sadakchap on 03 Aug 2012

How the mighty have fallen! A face saving device. If a parent punishes his child more often than necessary, the child becomees thickskinned and does not bother. Similarly fasts and protests should be selective and done at the drop of a hat. Politics, elections and vote banks are different cups of tea and from where will Anna get the money and muscle power?

Right Step, now file PIL in SC against tainted leaders for SIT, ask for Electoral Reforms!!! by Chandran on 03 Aug 2012

Team Anna has done a good job! We need a political altnerativate against corrupted politial coalitions and present so-called, secular, communal, psudeo, regional and castist political parties whose aim is only to increase the corruption and protect the corruptied individuals. Majority of the present smaller and regional, national parties have become protectionists of corrupted leaders and it has become corrupted heaven in this country. This should be changed and can be changed in two-three important ways: 1) Form a national political altnerative; 2) File PIL in Supreme Court against corrupted tainted leaders and ask for SIT, restrict them to enter voting in the law making process till they exempt from the compalints from SC, 3) File PIL in Supreme Court to introduce electroal reforms which will be the basis of further election process and should implement in the next election onwards. These are the steps they have to do.

Low turnout. IE?? by Ranita on 03 Aug 2012

IE and Shekhar Gupta have a myopic vision. They see everything the way they would have liked it to be. Thousands gathered their everyday, more and more keep coming from neighburing states and they refuse to see it!! Charltans. Yes to beat the crooks they will have to enter the arena.

Anna in political field by R. Vasudevan on 03 Aug 2012

I think it is unfair to criticise Anna Hazare for entering politics to foght a corrupt system in which politicians get away with loot of public money. Despite claiming to be interested in Lokpal, it is clear the corrupt breed of politicos will allow it to become law. The days of achieving results through fasting have ended with Gandhi ( the real one, not those who boast his titles). Now public has the choice to either show their keeness to end corruption or surrender meekly to the rot throwing their hands in despair.

'Anna wakes up to 2014' by K.K. Cherian on 03 Aug 2012

Anna Hazare's decision, irrespective what the compulsion has been, to end the fast is welcome. The reason for the failure of their move (if they agree so)is in their own making. The overwhelming support they received initially was due to the people's belief that it was a civil society movement. But the various subsequent developments, including corruption charges against some of the team members, their political overtures, etc. eroded people's faith in them. The political agenda now publicly announced (which was probably a hidden agenda) is likely to further erode their movement. Anyway Anna Hazare and his team will be remembered for their move which has highlighted the burning problem of corruption the country faces. People will remain grateful to them for it. To that extent Anna has achieved something.

Can you recognise honesty? by Vinod on 03 Aug 2012

I see from your comment that you are unable to recognise honesty. I hope you will soon learn.

A New Mughul-e-Azm by Abdulraheman Patrawala on 03 Aug 2012

Mughul-e-Azam - the Urdu movie ( as certified by Censor Board) , there is a memorable scene where Anarkali is condemned to death by Akbar for falling in love with his son Salim- the heir of throne. Akbar asked about her last wish. She aspired for a day as Queen of India ( Killing two birds with a stone ). Akbar said: So after all your longing of heart has come out of your mouth. ( According to Akbar - a slave girl has an ambitious plan or a lofty goal to become the queen of India and therefore she pretended her love for Salim ). Likewise, Anna and his team cherished to rule India in their heart but pretended for India Against Corruption. But at last truth has jumped out of their mouth and now they want to form the political party and come into power... This is the ploy of BJP to merge into Anna and have new incarnation after disastrous and embarrassing failures.

Better late than never by P M Ravindran on 03 Aug 2012

I am glad that Anna has realised atleast now how hardcore the criminals leading the govt(s) are. It had been written on the wall all along- starting from the kashmiri refugees and the 1984 massacre victims right under the noses of those in the central govt to Bhopal to Plachimada to Irom Sharmila. Of course Anna's task is more daunting than Mahatma Gandhiji's and hence may take a longer time to produce results but if I am sure of one thing it is that he cannot succeed unless the naxalites and maoists supported him better!

wise step by naresh on 03 Aug 2012

it is useless to DIE for people (public) who dont understand the value of it. Baba Ramdev saved himself from getting killed by police. Now Anna saved himself fro dieing by fast. Afterall, why they should die for us (?), whereas we dont even come forward to give them necessary support. It will not be surprising to see Anna Party defeated because they will not be able to BUY votes and they are not experienced in playing POLLING GAMES like castism, religion, appeasement of certain communities, devide and rule policy, etc. etc. May be, God also cannot save us. We are such big fools...

Hidden agenda by gurpreet singh on 03 Aug 2012

Anna's intention to set up a political party will give opportunity to the people who are opposing this movement. The most setback is for a common Indian who's trust is betrayed and it's look like a same old hidden agenda, get the limelight from media, people and then setup political party. History repeats itself any social movement when converts into political movement,it is not beneficial to country or to the people of that country. Only founders of that political party get benefit. I wonder in future any social movement initiated by any person will be back by a common Indian. Sadly say but true no one is here to save common Indian..

Anna gives up fast? by oldtimer on 03 Aug 2012

Another promise broken.Fast unto death? They are all cowards and afraid to die. Let us see who will fast till death?

Sad Day by sampat on 03 Aug 2012

It is a sad day for our democracy. It has become clear the Govt. will not be sensitive to important public grievances. We will have to muddle through a system where the powerful will continue to indulge in unfair practices. Political analysts, media and intelligentia require to introspect.

ANNA TEAM'S' MINDSET FROM SOCIAL PLATFORM TO POLITICAL PLATFORM by RAJAT KUMAR MOHINDRU .JALANDHAR CITY on 03 Aug 2012

Anna Hazare and his team has shed the idea of Fast unto death due to poor following at Jantar Mantar , as new ideology with a new vision has changed the mind set of Anna Hazare and his team that they will be forming Political Platform , Really now from Social Platform to Political Platform in regard to War Against Corruption . Anna Hazare should now that the Policies are Framed under the provisions of Constitution of India not as per the own desire of the Political Leaders or social leaders .

Blown Opportunity by AA on 03 Aug 2012

Team Anna blew the opportunity and the advantage Anna's fast at the Ramlila Grounds had given. Like the folks in government they got carried away with the thought that threats and coercion would be a viable strategy. The first lesson of negotiation is a win-win strategy, you need to be be able to make your opponent feel that he is winning too. Its sad, they really blew it, a political party is carrying the farce forward. Maybe it gives them something to do and feel important, I doubt they will achieve anything now.
