Bhopal Even as the BJP has strongly opposed the Centre's decision to hike diesel prices and allow FDI in retail, senior party leader and former Union Minister Arun Shourie justified the move saying it was the need of the hour.

"Increasing diesel prices was the need of the hour," Shourie, who had come here to participate in a seminar, told reporters last evening.

A lot of hue and cry is being raised unnecessarily on the issue of FDI in retail as this will neither lead to profit nor losses, the BJP leader said.

"Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has for the first time shown his strength," he added.

Pathetic to note that no one cares about common man who is badly affected by price hike.

BJP's Arun Shourie backs PM, supports FDI, diesel price hike by Balachandran Nair V on 24 Sep 2012

Mr. Arun Shourie was a strong supporter of FDI and disinvestment during NDA regime. He was the disinvestment minister of that government. Perhaps he one of the honest politician of the day. But how much beneficial will it be is still a debatable question

Talking sense by Duke Sekhon on 23 Sep 2012

The BJP has amongst its ranks a lot of leaders who are well informed and capable of providing good governance. Mr. Arun Shourie is certainly one of them. But I am afraid the rest of the BJP's prominent leaders are at sixes and sevens regarding their role as a responsible Opposition. They believe in castigating the government indiscriminately on every issue, even when the government seems to be adopting measures to correct prevailing anomalies in economic policies instead of responding soberly to any national issue requiring their considered and measured stance. Just take the issue of recently increased oil price as a talking point. Can the BJP irrevocably assure the nation that on coming to power it would be able to supply oil at the prices prior to the recent increase indefinitely, unmindful of the vast and increasing gap between the prices of the domestic supply and the price of the imported oil?

ARUN SHOURIE PUTS B.J.P. CADRE IN DILEMMA by RAJAT KUMAR MOHINDRU .JALANDHAR CITY on 23 Sep 2012

Former Union Minister and B.J.P. senior Leader Mr Arun Shourie puts the B.J.p. Cadre in dilemma by approving the approval of F.D.I. by the U.P.A. Government Led by Prime Minister S Mammohan Singh . He has appreciated the excellent job done by P.M. and shown his power of strength where as B.J.P. on the other hand had raised huge voice against F.D.I. and hike in the price of Diesel and even called one Day Bandh but on the other hand B.J.P. leader appreciates the steps taken by P.M. S Manmohan Singh .

WE WANT A CLARIFICATION by Dr.M.M.HAZARIKA PhD on 23 Sep 2012

We hope to hear from Mr.Shourie the exact definition of Economy? Why it is not following the general laws we know of to control? Why in-spite of infusing of Trillions of Dollars into the System,it is remaining stand-still or without life with none getting rich? Who had earned enough through selling of 5 Star Hotel very cheap at the cost of the Public? If it don't bring neither Profit or loss, why we are in a hurry to go for it? Both parties shall face loss bringing FDI at this juncture.Yes, we shall get cheap as well as pure Products to eat but at what cost? The same number of Public shall retort to other anti-social Activities while looking for earning their lives through making a profit. We have distributed free @ Rs.65,000.00 Cr amongst the poor earlier but it worked reverse. Why we are granting 10 yrs of extra life at the cost of the others! With our minds divided into two, why we are inviting another headache to the Country? Let us do it with a pause granted.

Arun Shourie on diesel prices by S.Srinivasan on 23 Sep 2012

Is Mr Shourie still in BJP? I think he is no more associated with BJP.Without going into his comments, let me say that it is unethical to publish his views [particularly in favour of UPA] as that of a 'senior party leader'.

Shourie's views by rvsakhadeo on 23 Sep 2012

Arun Shourie has , in ample measure, what his colleagues in the B.J.P. sorely lack. He has common sense, a businesslike approach to the problems of governance of our country, an in depth knowledge of economic and political realities. He should be listened to by the old loonies from the BJP as well as hotshot intellectuals like Arun Jaitley and Prakash Javadekar. These people must realise that the best that BJP can do at this stage is to keep quiet. The nationwide bandh is a fiasco, there apparatchiks must have informed them.

100% agreed. by Santosh on 23 Sep 2012

Yes. FDI and diesel price hike is very correct. What is wrong is Coal scam and 2G scam. The huge money lost in these numerous scams is what keeping economy down.

this very govt has given Rs.5 lakhs crores of subsidies to private companies and to cooperate jagat in different forms concession to business houses and it would gained more than Rs.4 lakhs crores if 2 G and coal fraud and Commnon wealths money was saved that has been looted by pvt companies and political parties got as party funds. There was no need raise diesel and gsa prices if th is was saved by the Govt.Subsidies given cooperate jagat is much more than subsidies being on given to public.Govt cry is false.and misguiding public. Both Chairman and Dy Chairman of planing commision are ex-IMF and World Bank employees and following their dictates in burdening commonman by taxing more and more.
