Bihar govt orders SIT probe into violence during CM Nitish Kumar's 'Adhikar Yatra'

Patna The Bihar government has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the large-scale violence and arson by protesters during Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's 'Adhikar Yatra' to Khagaria district two days ago, a police official said today.

The SIT headed by the Superintendent of Police (SP) Sheo Kumar Jha has been directed to rush to Khagaria district and probe incident and submit a report to the police headquarters, the Additional Director General of Police (ADG), Headquarters, Ravindra Kumar told PTI.

He said that Khagaria police have arrested two more protesters taking the number of those arrested in connection with violence in the district to 37.

Raids were being carried out to nab other accused persons, Kumar said.

The police had yesterday lodged FIRs against 673 protesters, including 600 unidentified ones for their alleged involvement in violence in Khagaria district during the Chief Minister's visit on September 27 last, the ADG said.

Kumar's Adhikar Yatra in Khagaria district was marred by largescale violence by the protesters, comprising the contractual teachers, who had also set on fire the record room in the district collectorate and torched at least four vehicles in the district.
