Blood is offered, by doting Rahul Gandhi brigade, for him

In backslapping, Jaipur Declaration forgotten

New Delhi Rahul Gandhi may like his appointment as Congress vice-president to be seen as the rise of youth and a harbinger of change in the party. However, at the AICC meeting on Sunday at least, it was hard to spot either.

In their speeches, Youth Congress as well as NSUI leaders showed unmistakable continuity in the culture of sycophancy in the ruling party.

Some even outmatched party veterans, promising to shed their blood to match the sweat of “desh ke yuvaon ki dhadkan (the heart-throb of the youth)” Rahul Gandhi. Others promised that for him, “jawani luta denge (sacrifice their youth)”.

It was Uttar Pradesh PCC chief Nirmal Khatri, a Rahul appointee, who set the tone, exhorting Congress president Sonia Gandhi to “hand over your powers” to Rahul to ensure timely and quick decisions. Next speaker Amarinder Singh Raja, a Youth Congress leader from Punjab, followed it up saying, “A new revolution will come in the country under Rahul Gandhi.”

Jammu & Kashmir Youth Congress president Mohammad Shahnawaz said Rahul’s entry into politics gave youngsters an opportunity for leadership and “it happens in centuries”.

“Big industrialists like Ratan Tata wouldn’t go to Kashmir even for a vacation but Rahulji brought them to the university (in Srinagar). Aane wali naslen tumse rushka karengi, jab unko maloom hoga ki tumne Rahul Gandhi ko dekha hai (Coming generations will envy you when they come to know that you have seen Rahul Gandhi),” he said.

Some offers of blood, by Rahul’s brigade, for him

Another Youth Congress office-bearer stated how he had responded when a mediaperson asked about a Rahul versus Narendra Modi contest: “What a comparison! Modi has no ideology or legacy!”

Indian Youth Congress president Rajiv Satav said, “We have got a new captain of the Congress in Rahulji. I thank Soniaji for handing over the reins to him. Such is our leader who does not want any power or post.” Satav then went on to enumerate what all Rahul had taught them and what all they had achieved under his leadership.

NSUI chief Rohit Chowdhury elaborated how, as a middle-class person from Maharashtra, he could not have been standing in front of the august gathering at the AICC meeting but for the “transformation process brought by Rahul Gandhi”. He also went on to elaborate what Rahul taught NSUI activists.

Calling Rahul a “symbol of hope”, Priyavrat Singh from the Madhya Pradesh Youth Congress said, “Jahan aapka (Rahul’s) paseena girega, wahan hamara khoon bahega.”

Youth Congress “election commissioner” M N Swamy was all praise for the “silent revolution” brought by Rahul.

Amidst all the speeches, the Birla auditorium rang with slogans such as “Rahul Gandhi zindabad”, “Rahul tum sangharsh karo, hum tumhare saath hain”.

Sonia Gandhi was seen laughing whenever there were occasional slogans of “Sonia Gandhi zindabad”.

Rahul Gandhi Band wagon by porcher555@gmail.com on 21 Jan 2013

The country would be better served if this hysteria on Rahul Gandhi is hosed down by the man himself. This must be quite embarrasing for him how his followers have gone ferral in hero-worship which he is yet to prove. Jawaharlal Nehru and Mahatma Gandhi would have been chagrined at this hoopla. If the governance of India is on his shoulders let him prepare and equip himself to become our own 'Barack Obama' to lead India out of sectarian interests into a shining light of progress and developement for the rich and the poor side by side.

We can get our names in the top of the list for getting fooled by emotions and hero worship by sprout1932 on 21 Jan 2013

I fully agree with Sam. When will we all wake up and vote for the right people to make our India really great and reach great heights.? God we pray to you to send a person to save us all..

Sycophancy at its peak by KS Raghunathan on 21 Jan 2013

Congress is playing the same game invoking "Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi" with the hope that this will again help them in 2014 to cover up the scams and mismanagement of the country's economy. Mahatma Gandhi wanted the congress disbanded after Independence, once the goal of freedom was achieved. Then, the only party was congress, full of patriots like Nehru, Bose, Patel, Rajaji, Azad and so on, fighting to free India from the British. But, while Nehru did not disband the congress, many others left the party in due course. Today's congress party comprises power hungry and corrupt politicians, clinging to the "Gandhi family" to fool the people. This is so apparent that while there is absolutely NONE from Mahatma Gandhi's family in India's power scene today, Nehru's descendants in congress party still invoking "Gandhi surname" for electoral gains, with sycophants in full measure as seen in the "Chintan Shivir". But, the people of India are unlikely to be swayed by dubious emotions in 2014.

Benefit of Sycophancy by Indian on 21 Jan 2013

The benefit of Sycophancy is so much that the youth brat brigade will not only give their blood but their poo too to Rahul. They all know how they will benefit from Congress's coffer of corrupt money. All budding Kalmadi's of future...

Fooling people by Sam on 21 Jan 2013

No offence meant, since voting for anyone is an individual right, but I honestly pity the people who'll still vote for the Congress despite what we're facing in the country today with all the crime, inflation, price hikes, interest hikes and what not. Certainly not the govt. for the common man. Coming to Rahul, what are his credentials to become a PM, just having a Dynastic name? His contribution is nil in every other field. If he's not hungry for power then why else are is he and his mother leading the congress party? An who're the seasoned politicians around him....digvijay singh, rajiv shukla, Sheila dixit and the likes? God bless this country if people continue to get fooled by emotional speeches alone.
