Nameless girl is battling for life against all odds even as her condition increasingly turn futile. (Reuters)

New Delhi The condition of the 23-year-old gangrape victim deteriorated today with doctors saying that she is "not as good" as yesterday.

"Her condition has deteriorated... She is very serious, very critical and still not out of danger," one of the doctors attending to her at Safdarjung Hospital said.

Dr B D Athani, Medical Superintendent of Safdarjung Hospital, said last night, the victim developed tendency for internal bleeding and now she has reduced capacity for coagulation.

"Her bilirubin level has decreased to 5.5 and her lycolyte count is 6000. These parameters are after supplementation of platelet. She continues to remain on ventilator. She is not as good as yesterday and she is para-sick. She is running fever of 102 to 104," he said.

“This is because of sepsis and it is a matter of "serious concern", he said.

"The victim was subjected to psychiatric counselling today. Her parents were also given counselling. In that, it was found that the victim was relatively composed and that she neither showed anxiety or depression," Athani said.

The paramedical student, who was gangraped last Sunday night in a moving bus here, was also administered another four bottles of platelet-rich plasma.

Body destroyed beyond redemption, Delhi gangrape victim fights what India hopes is not a futile battle

After undergoing yet another surgery, the 23-year-old Delhi gangrape victim's condition was still described as critical on Monday afternoon, with doctors continuing to monitor her health 24/7.

Doctors at the Safdarjung Hospital giving their report here said the girl is stable but critical and is on ventilator electively. She underwent a "small operation" yesterday after medical examination suggested fluid collection in her abdomen - docs say that there is some internal bleeding too.

With her intestines gone and medication side-effects kicking in as well as her strength gradually ebbing out of her, hope for the victim was fast diminishing even as she continues to wage a spirited battle against all odds, say doctors.

The victim's platelet count has been fluctuating since Saturday and it stood at a low 19,000 during the last observation yesterday. Normal platelet count in a healthy individual is between 150,000 and 450,000 per micro-litre of blood, which augurs a disaster for the girl who has today become a synonym for atrocities against women even though she remains in anonymity as a nameless person in public.

The doctors said sepsis, a severe blood infection that can lead to organ failure, is one of their major concerns and noted that the bilirubin level of the victim has increased to 6.3.

The paramedical student, who was gangraped last Sunday night in a moving bus here, was also administered another four bottles of platelet-rich plasma. The girl is also suffering from high fever, the doctors said.

People gathered outside the hospital wishing her well say the girl's case may be hopeless, but she is giving others hope with her spirited fight.

Many are seen praying for her welfare, while others insist that her death will turn her into a martyr for the cause of women emancipation and fuel a country-wide reforms movement for women's welfare.

Disgusting Reporting by 24 yr old Med Student on 26 Dec 2012

It's disgusting to talk about this victim's death even as she is battling for her life. She is NIRBHAYA and India's AMANAT... she WILLrecover. God is greater than Delhi Police and Indian Govt so all their disgusting publicity stunts will fail against her courage.. Nirbhaya WILL fight back. India prays for her speedy recovery. And yeah, by Republic Day she better get justice or Indian Govt will really get to know what the public's wrath looks like.

Sick newspaper by Sanjay on 25 Dec 2012

You are one of the sickest news report writer working for a very sick publicity seeking newspaper. Already mentioning what will happen if she died. No one mentions it about someone battling for life even before they die. Totally graceless reporting by a sick newspaper for cheap sensationalism feeding gory voyeurs. Shame on you indian express, truely shame on you and your tasteless newswriters, and your classless editors,

Faith by Ravindra on 25 Dec 2012

What hss happened is not acceptable to any sensible person. Howvever at this momment we must pray for speedy recovery and wellbeing of the victim. We need her back. So lets pray for her speedy recovery. We should be united to force the govt to bring in the stringent regulation against such acts and the culprits are prosucated & punished within shorted possible time. Molestation against women/female child have to dealt with iron hand by govt. agencies. Make police resposible and put police machinary and system in order in each state. My prayers for the vicitim's recovery to normal health.

----girl's condition ---- by S.V.Ramaswamy on 25 Dec 2012

There is a rumor that the the recently announced death in MUMBAI was done on air after making adequate preparation of all security & waiting till the frenzy of public died down . I feel that THE GRAND OLD INDIAN PARTY & its spin masters are at their old game again. The real news is buried some where . All the drama of charge sheet , filing F.I.R., on all & every one , including closing of roads & metro are all preparation. As long as we as a collective DEMOCRACY vote these lumpen elements we will continue to be fooled like this. That is why a person belonging to "INNER CIRCLE " called as 'BANANA REPUBLIC' & some one else said 'CATTLE CLASS'. Let us all suffer for few more decades !!!!! before we wake up as a nation.

You have been doing it but giving others credit since it involves funds by Uma on 25 Dec 2012

Then go ahead. Do it in your name. As a personal gesture to heal the nation in your personal capacity and personal grief. A kholistic approach holding no one to blame except the system. That neglects everyone and pits one against the other in a dehumanizing way. Preach absence of gaali galoch, police reforms, in treatment of criminals and law enforcers on both sides of the coin - that does not find takers in the parliament more obsessed with voter base, contracts, cuts from them - pushing peoples welfare so out of sight that they beat people when asked to do something meaningful. Your personal initiatives in your personal capacity to bring change.

no need for her to become a martyr to help woen by joe on 24 Dec 2012

I hope this lead to greater protection and respect for the women of India. But surely the demonstrations on the streets show that she need not become a martyr. The female acid attack victim who won the top prize on indias who wants to be a millionaire is achieving more by being alive and facing the world than she could have done if she had died and become a 'traditional' martyr.

Heartless Doctors by amit on 24 Dec 2012

I hate the doctors treating on her. Everytime they appear on the television all of them are so stonefaced, emotionless. if she could have overcome in the initial week what makes her health turn so serious. The govt must seek better and more specialised medical advice for her. If anything worse happens God will never forgive the ruling netas nor the doctors. and we as concerned citizens should pray for her..every moment

I agree with raju by anon on 24 Dec 2012

raju has rightly said she must be taken out of the nation for quality treatment. .
