New Delhi The questioning of the men arrested for the gangrape and torture of a 23-year-old woman on board a bus has revealed that Mukesh, the man at the wheel, tried to run her over after she was dumped by the roadside in Mahipalpur in south-west Delhi on the night of December 16.

Police sources said the woman was saved by her friend who too was badly beaten and thrown out of the bus with her. The woman died in a Singapore hospital on December 29, prompting police to press murder charges against the arrested men.

The woman and her friend were stripped and thrown out of the bus. Her friend pulled her away when he saw the bus reversing to run her over, the sources said.

It is learnt that the juvenile among the six arrested was the first to taunt her friend, asking him where he was headed so late at night with a woman. He attacked her friend and the others joined in, kicking and hitting him with a rod.

To save himself from the blows, the friend crawled under the seats. The five accused got together and dragged him out. To save her friend, the woman fought back and bit three accused, the sources said. The bite marks are mentioned in the medico-legal case report. Hit with a rod, her friend became unconscious and the men moved towards the woman, the sources said.

The police have detailed the sequence of events in a draft chargesheet which has been sent to senior officers for final approval.

Two men traced by the police and added to the list of witnesses are bus cleaners in Noida. They are learnt to have told police that Ram Singh brought the bus to Noida to wash away blood stains. While he was washing the bus, the cleaners claimed to have spotted blood stains.

The chargesheet will be submitted in a Saket court after police present it to the Delhi High Court for perusal.

It is a crime that she is dead and these animals are still alive by desikanthomas on 02 Jan 2013

These animals (though animals do not rape other animals) should be subject to the same depravity that the other poor soul was subject to. My recommendation they be stripped naked and impaled on a red hot bar, let to bleed to death in a closed tank of human waste. They should die slow in that condition with fresh human waste poured on them, daily, with their hands tied. They deserve no mercy. Anything less, they got it made easy. It should all be PUBLIC. MENA countries got it right. The punishment should start tomorrow. Being civil to the uncivil is not prudent. Speedy and public and ghastly punishment is the need of the hour. Next one should target forced prostitution in similar terms. Indian Society has been tolerant toward prostitution, female infanticide, eve-teasing, groping etc for way too long. What happens to these animals must be deterrent to others. This is repulsive and a crime against all humanity. No easy death for them please.

Hang them by sanjay on 02 Jan 2013

the only way to deal with rapists & stop such brutality happening again is no other penalty than death shud b thr..Any kind of rape shud b treated as heinous act & first they shud b castrated & then hanged..bcause wht is use of keepin these animals in Jail? they'll only b well fed on our taxes..& thr r many good people who r poor & need that money..so instead of showin humanity to criminal show it to good ones who need it most..

Women are not to be blamed. by Augustine on 02 Jan 2013

None of the streets of India are safe for women nor the homes. Parents lay emphasis on studies, saying , 'my son scores well in class'.We live in a delusion - we worship stone-gods and hate the reality - mankind in general. We lack the civilities and morals that only a religion can teach. Beware your son could be a rapist. Adieu! Augustine.

Bus driver tried to run her over, friend pulled her away, say police by Syed Saulat Shere on 02 Jan 2013

This tragedy should never have happened. Those responsible should be appropriately punished. But, my salute goes to the Indian public in general who are showing excellent awareness of the unfortunate event and keeping the corrupt officials from sweeping this crime under the rug..
