“We had repeatedly told her during signing of the agreement for the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration that the Chief Minister has created a Frankenstein in the GJM over which she will not have any control,” Leader of the Opposition Surja Kanta Mishra said.

Mishra, a senior CPM leader, also alleged that the Trinamool Congress-Gorkha Janmukti Morcha nexus was evident during the GTA elections when the TMC withdrew its candidates.

Left Front chairman Biman Bose said the tripartite agreement that led to the creation of the GTA had actually sowed the seeds of unrest in the hills.

Mocking at Banerjee’s oft-repeated remark “Darjeeling is smiling”, Bose said that on various occasions she had made the statement, but today she could realise from her own experience that it was not smiling.

“We had earlier said when the tripartite agreement was signed that though the GJM had agreed to the GTA, their final goal is Gorkhaland. The GTA agreement itself has sowed the seeds of problems,” Bose observed.

“The demand for a separate state could not be accepted,” he said and suggested that all political parties and the Centre look for a permanent solution to the Darjeeling problem within the constitutional framework.

Congress leader and Union minister Deepa Dasmunsi said, “ Mere scolding will not serve to bring a permanent solution to the hill problem. The sentiment of the people in the hills should be honoured while finding a permanent solution,” she said.
