Cabinet reshuffle: Big four could keep their jobs

New Delhi Amid indications that the much awaited cabinet reshuffle may be pushed back to the third week of next month, sources said changes were unlikely in the top four portfolios — Defence, Finance, External Affairs and Home.

The revamp would affect the next levels, though, they said, suggesting that Human Resource Development, Corporate Affairs, Science and Technology and Tourism could have new ministers.

It has been speculated that new faces in the ministry may include both senior leaders like Janardan Dwivedi and Rahman Khan, and younger faces like Manish Tewari.

Congress MPs from West Bengal might gain from the Trinamool Congress’s exit — following Mamata Banerjee’s walkout and Pranab Mukherjee’s elevation as President, the state is currently unrepresented in the ministry.

From the NCP, Tariq Anwar is a certain entrant.

Thursday’s UPA coordination committee meeting is expected to make an attempt to formulate the coordinated response of the ruling alliance to the economic challenges before the country.

The committee was constituted last month to ensure cohesive functioning of the UPA after the NCP complained of a lack of coordination in the ruling alliance.

The meeting will be the first since Trinamool’s pullout last week.
