Lucknow The Government Railway Police have filed a chargesheet against IAS officer Shashi Bhushan Lal Susheel for allegedly molesting and attempting to rape a girl on a moving train near Lucknow in October last year.

The chargesheet has been filed in the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (Railway) Ashok Kumar Singh. Susheel, a 2001-batch Uttar Pradesh cadre officer, is out on bail. He was Special Secretary of Technical Education when the incident took place. He has since been suspended.

DIG Hari Ram Sharma confirmed the chargesheet had been filed. Susheel’s lawyer Vinod Kumar Shahi said his client had not received any summons from court, nor was he aware whether the court had taken cognizance of the chargesheet.

The incident dates back to October last year when the victim, who works in a multinational firm in Delhi, was on her way to Lucknow with her mother on the Lucknow Mail. Susheel boarded the train at Ghaziabad. The girl’s mother lodged the complaint after getting down at Lucknow, alleging that accused touched her daughter at night when she was sleeping. And in the early hours, when the train was near Sandila railway station, Susheel allegedly molested the victim.

Susheel has denied the allegations and said he only had an argument with the two women. He also claimed that the mother had made casteist remarks against him.
