Washington Post report on PM Manmohan Singh said that 'the shy, soft-spoken 79-year-old is in danger of going down in history as a failure'.

New Delhi The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday said that the whole world is discussing the corrupt practices of Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and pointed out an article in the leading US daily 'Washington Post', which described him as a silent PM, saying the whole world knows that his corrupt throne is wobbling.

BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said, "Tere Bhrashtachar ke charche har zubaan par, sabko maalum hai, aur sabko khabar ho gayi".

He said that it was never expected that the image of such a reputable person would get demolished in such a manner.

"This is absolutely right. Now, the whole world knows that this corrupt throne is wobbling. Manmohan Singh had a very good reputation throughout the world, he was known as a responsible person and a very good economist. We never expected that the image of such a good person will get demolished in such a manner," said Naqvi.

"Everything was taking place under his nose and he was silently watching all the happenings," he added.

Naqvi further alleged that the Congress Party has now become the multinational company of corruption under the leadership of Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi.

The Washington Post report said that, "the shy, soft-spoken 79-year-old is in danger of going down in history as a failure".

"But the image of the scrupulously honorable, humble and intellectual technocrat has slowly given way to a completely different one: a dithering, ineffectual bureaucrat presiding over a deeply corrupt government," the report said.

"Every day for the past two weeks, India's Parliament has been adjourned as the Opposition bays for Singh's resignation over allegations of waste and corruption in the allocation of coal-mining concessions," it adds.

The Washington Post report also mentions PM Manmohan Singh's "dramatic fall from grace" in his second term.

In July , the Time Magazine had dubbed Manmohan Singh as an "underachiever", saying he appears "unwilling to stick his neck out" on reforms that will put the country back on the growth path.

Govt rages at Washingtonm Post's anti-Indian PM write

A US daily's trenchant criticism of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has come under attack from Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni, who plans to take up the issue with the External Affairs Ministry so that "strong action" can be taken in the matter.

"The article on the prime minister by a paper like Washington Post is unacceptable. The claims made there are completely baseless and we reject it," she told reporters.

Soni was reacting to an article in 'The Washington Post' with the headline 'India's 'silent' prime minister becomes a tragic figure'.

The article said Manmohan Singh had helped set India on the path to modernity, prosperity and power but critics now now say that the shy soft-spoken leader is in danger of "going down in history as a failure".

"....But the image of the scrupulously honourable, humble and intellectual technocrat has slowly given way to a completely different one: a dithering, ineffectual bureaucrat presiding over a deeply corrupt government," the write up said.

Soni said she would take up the issue with the Ministry of External Affairs and other government departments and act against it.

"They had done this kind of things earlier and had apologised. If the Washington Post has written things like this against the prime minister, trust me I will take strong action against them," she said.

Similarly, a couple of months ago a 'Time' magazine article that had dubbed the prime minister as an "underachiever" and "unwilling to stick his neck out" on reforms had created a storm. The government had then too reacted strongly against it.

Dr MMS,is a good govt servant and a poor leader but his attatchent to the office which came to him by chance made him subordinate to an foreign barmaid out to loot this country and his reputation as an honest person which is itself a fake because he never had profesional honesty in the first place. He has no cotrol over PM office as the sams is being run by palace loyalist nor he has any control of his ministers who owe the position again the italian mafia. One can only sympathise with him.EVEN NOW HE CAN TURN patriotic by resigning his post and come out clean.Pl for the sake of this motherland.

The Buck Stops Here by Srinivasan on 05 Sep 2012

The Washington Post has been mild in it's assessment of the stewardship of Manmohan Singh. As the top honcho he has degraded the office of the Prime Minister by either allowing or turning a blind eye to the rampant corruption that is plaguing India at every level of society. The Congress Party in cahoots with whoever will join their bandwagon has encouraged the looting of the country. They have sold India's valuable natural resources to private bidders, domestic and foreign corporations. Natural resources like oil, gas and minerals should benefit all its citizens not the private corporations. An apathetic population will pay a heavy price. As head of the Government he has failed morally and ethically. It is time he was set off to pasture. India needs young, dynamic leaders to take over the helm and pack off the oldies into oblivion. The major parties must be destroyed as they have looted the country since Independence.

The British ruled India with only 80-100,000 Englishmen that included soldiers. I think we need about 10-20,000 NRI's in the right places of Govt and civil service to get rid of this CANCER once and for all and make India great. Wish there were/are still some modern day Bhagat Singh around to stop the rot?

Damage to the Reputation of MMS by R VARADARAJAN, Chennai on 05 Sep 2012

MMS's reputation got the first beating in 2007, when the 2G Scam was at discussion stage, when Raja willfully ignored his instructions - forget the corruption aspect which is actually a corollary. Ever since, MMS never took any initiative in the right direction either salvage either his or his party's image, leave alone the country's iamge. Thanks to his silence and his withdrawn attitude, every one misused various position to flout the policies. Naturally the BJP which had very little hope to fight MMS's charisma in the previous election, found this as a god-sent. The slender margin and unsupportive allies did not allow MMMS to even breathe leave alone taking bold steps. Govt's failure in every respect is BJP's gain !!!

Coalgate can not be so malicious... by MK on 05 Sep 2012

The scandal occurred is trumpeted by our another level of corrupt leaders. Until today in past many commissions and inquiries were called to ascertain the corruption scandal like arms purchase from Russia to Sweden to USA in different ruling gov. but never any punishment or jail to any gov. employee or political leader is sentenced. Our leaders are degrading our country in the world.

Coalgate: Whole world is discussing your corrupt practices, BJP tells PM Manmohan Singh by Dr.Makni on 05 Sep 2012

The stand off between the two major political parties is a matter of concern where burden of responsibility to prove the allegations wrong lies on the sitting government. BJP has also to be mindful that labeling allegations against as high an office as that of Prime Minister must not turn out later on as a political ruse to influence the impending election results. At this stage, sincerity of purpose is difficult to judge, particularly when BJP seems also inclined to ditch the investigation by state's agencies as cover up. It would be appropriate for the both to agree on investigation by a judicial commission constituted by the Indian Supreme Court. Even if the parties do not agree, SC can take sue motto notice of the impasse and order investigations. When BJP had asked Mr. MMS to resign, it was God-given opprtunity to improve Congress image if he would have, for the sake of transparent probe, opted to quit the Premiership. Alas some decision are difficult to make...MMS knows better.

MMS - the worst PM ever by Hari Haran on 05 Sep 2012

MMS & resign ? Its like asking Hafiz Sayeed to surrender in India. It takes a lot of character & courage to resign on moral grounds. The man who never had a Spine to chuck the PM-ship when Sonia biwi was using him as a cover when Mega scams were being hatched & executed. This man MMS- will eventually turn out to be Traitor/Scamster - for all goody goody image he and his party have painted for him.
