Conference at SUSCET tracks emerging trends in biotechnology

Chandigarh, November 24 A Two-Day national conference on ‘Emerging Trends in Biotechnology Engineering’ was concluded today at the Department of Biotechnology, Shaheed Udham Singh College of Engineering and Technology (SUSCET).

The aim of the conference was to track the latest developments in field of biotechnology and human engineering. Renowned experts and scientists in the field of rapidly developing biotechnological engineering presented their papers on a wide range of topics.

Inaugurated by Dr R C Sobti, Vice-Chancellor of Panjab University, the conference was marked by participation from institutions like Indian Institute of Sciences, Bangalore and Reliance Life Sciences.

Institute of Microbial Technology (IMTECH) scientist Dr Anand K Bacchawat was the guest of honour. He also presented his keynote address with a presentation on the topic ‘Discovery of novel pathway for glutathione degradation in yeast and fungi’.

Original research papers on topics ranging from bioinformatics to stem cell research and from biostatistics to biosensors were presented during the conference. Genetically modified foods, drug designing and delivery and nanotechnology were discussed at length.

Dr Sobti released the annual newsletter Bioshots-Eukarya on the occasion with Dr D S Hira, Director, SUSCET and Sukhjeet Kaur, HoD, Department of Biotechnology.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Hira remarked that engineering biological process and making them useful for human needs is a wonder that biotechnological engineering in unleashing unbelievably every day.
