Cong shows ‘TMC manifesto’ backing FDI, Mamata says it was only a ‘draft’

Mamata Banerjee

Kolkata The Congress dealt an embarrassing blow to Mamata Banerjee’s rhetoric against retail FDI Thursday, revealing that the TMC manifesto for the 2009 Lok Sabha election had promised exactly what the party was now opposing so vehemently.

Mamata tried to explain that the manifesto was only a “draft”. But immediately after the Congress revelation, the document disappeared from the party website www.aitmc.org.

West Bengal Congress chief Pradip Bhattacharya told a press conference at his party headquarters: “In its 2009 Lok Sabha election manifesto, Trinamool had underlined the need for FDI, but now they are opposing it. Trinamool’s support to FDI was clearly mentioned in paragraph 42 on page number 43 of the manifesto.”

He showed a piece of paper with printed text in Bengali, the sentence corresponding to paragraph 42 translating as, “Retail trade will see the entry of big capital from domestic and foreign investors.”

At Writers’ Buildings, Mamata said, “What is being shown as the Trinamool manifesto was actually a draft copy that was sealed. A draft is first prepared and printed, and if an error is detected later, it is removed. A similar procedure is followed in newspaper offices too. Copy is rewritten as and when news develops further.”

TMC's 'Draft' Manifesto by M.S.Kamath on 21 Sep 2012

Why was the Congress Party silent on the "draft" manifesto of TMC all these days? Why did it appear on TMC's website all along?

cong shows{tmc manifesto] backing fdi, mamta says it was only draft by s.s. lamba on 21 Sep 2012

IT IS NOT ONLY MAMTA BUT all leaders ofpolitical parties know by heart of heart that it will a milestone for the bemifit of consumers and producers of all items & will also help in controlling the menace of black money.Atpresent the middle man and shopkeepers charge exorbitant amount irrespective of market index and dont issue bill despite demand.the authorities are unable to manage such theft of sales tax & cnsequently the income tax.In order to get vote &support of money from middlemen the political parties pretends that they are anti to the idea. The farmers being largely illitrate& unorganised also fall in there trap & support such parties.

Can Government publish the draft and also its English translation -If TMC thinks that it was only a draft -why did it suddenly withdraw it from site only now-BJP has been trying to take her with them wherever they want to go-she co operated with them in President election, VP election and in all matters and being in goverenment was sharing all news about develpments- she was BJP parter at one time and probly she wants to get back to them.

TMC.....FDI support in it's 2009 Manifesto by Anuj on 21 Sep 2012

Mamta gambled and failed. Gambling or brinkmanship to get results for the people who you represent, is GOOD. But to believe that YOU are great and the people come next and in a fit of pique, take silly actions - we can see what happened to Mamta and the one person party of TMC. This may also be the beginning of the end for her . Let us hope so. The populace who gave her a mandate to develop the state have faced an autocratic and schizophrenic street fighting bunch who also claim to run a govt. Perenially hunting for enemies in their own public, they are slowly ensuring the bowl in the hands of their voters shall become a begging bowl as economics from Oct 2012 onwards will stare this state of WB, whose people elect a bunch of cAPRICIOUS EGOMANIACS REGULARLY.
