Stating that this has been a “good year” as far as placements are concerned, Dr Arvind Kumar, placement in-charge at Lady Shri Ram College, said, “More than 20 companies including Deloitte and McKinsey, among others, have already visited the campus and almost 30 per cent of students who want jobs have been placed.”

While the average salary package for LSR students is around Rs 6.5 lakh per annum, the highest package offered so far has been Rs 12 lakh per year.

“Apart from consulting and audit firms, media houses, entertainment channels and production houses like Balaji Telefilms and Star TV have also come here for recruitment,” Kumar said.

The college, this year, has also been paying special attention to placements for students with disabilities and workshops have been conducted to help them with the recruitment process. “Owing to an innovation project on corporate social responsibility, undertaken by our students and funded by the university, we got in touch with various companies and realised that there was a need to pay more attention to students with disabilities,” Kumar said.

At Sri Venkateswara, another South Campus college, almost 77 students have been placed with good pay packages.

“Last year, the highest annual pay package was Rs. 5.5 lakh. This year, the highest pay package offered is Rs 6.5 lakh per year,” Dr Pratima Vyas, teacher-in-charge for placements at Sri Venkateswara College, said.

North Campus colleges have also seen a good response from companies. More than 200 students of Shri Ram College of Commerce have already been placed, with the highest offer standing at Rs 14 lakh per year.

“The pay packages at SRCC haven’t seen a significant increase from last year. The average salary offered is around Rs 6.5 lakh per annum,” Dr C S Sharma, who teaches at SRCC, said.

According to Sharma, most graduates who get jobs in top companies generally take it up while others who get admission at top business schools tend to leave their jobs. “There were about six students last year who got job offers with an annual pay package of Rs 14 lakh but they left it because they got through to the top three IIMs,” Sharma said.

The Central Placement Cell of Delhi University has also closed registrations for this year.

Similar to last year, two Japanese companies belonging to the retail and marketing sector will be visiting the campus soon.

“There were 22,000 registrations this year, around five per cent more than last year. The first round of placements took place in December, 300 students were shortlisted by two-three companies. The selection process is still on,” Dr J M Khurana, Dean of Students’ Welfare at the university, said.

The Central Placement Cell of the university has also been organising “capacity enhancement workshops”, which saw students receiving training for appearing in interviews and being apprised of the nature of jobs offered in different sectors.
