The girl is on ventilator support.
Describing it as “probably the most grievous” rape case they have handled at the hospital, doctors said the victim, a paramedic student, was subjected to extensive torture before she was raped, leading to severe injuries that could be life threatening.
Senior doctors said the woman, after a medical examination, had to undergo emergency surgery that lasted from 2 am to 5 am. “This was much more than rape. There were extensive injuries... It appears that a blunt object had been used repeatedly,” a doctor said.
Dr B D Athani, medical superintendent at Safdarjung Hospital, said: “She was rushed to our emergency section around 11 pm where a medical examination was performed. Preliminary X-rays indicated severe abdominal injury, so we rushed her into surgery. Her condition remains very critical.”
Doctors said despite her injuries, the young woman was “oriented and conscious” during the medical examination. Before she was anaesthetised for surgery, she constantly inquired about her friend who was also brought to the hospital.
A senior doctor from the Department of Surgery said, “After the basic examination, she was put under the care of the surgery department. We attempted an intestine repair surgery, but the nature of injuries was so grievous that there was not much that could be done.” Her condition, remains critical despite a steady dose of antibiotics.
“The nature of injuries is such that the threat of infection, leading to gangrene, and eventually septicaemia, or a severe infection in the blood, is immense. We are pumping her with antibiotics,” the doctor said.
Besides internal injuries, doctors said the victim also had multiple bruises all over her body. “There are marks on her face and upper body. She seems to have been hit multiple times by the blunt object, especially on the face,” the doctor said.
After surgery, the victim was put on ventilator support in the ICU. But by Monday afternoon, she had gone into haemorrhagic shock. She has labile blood pressure — there are frequent fluctuations in her blood pressure. “She has also sustained extensive blood loss, and we had to transfuse repeatedly,” the doctor said.
mere hanging will never show them wat pain did that girl suffer.so they should be totured to the worst of possible and finally they should be hanged to death in public which should terror the minds of others who dares to commit the same kind of unforgivable crime... by doing so let this kind of evil die.
It's right that we need societal reforms but even govt needs to step up and take an initiative towards it. They need to build up a strong base for a respectable society. This can be done by setting up strong examples of justice for such barbaric crimes. The fear that will be instigated in men against rape will slowly take a shape of societal reform. Every reform has to be started the hard way. This one really and badly needs to be done. Sensitisation is one option but that move has to be taken by the govt first. Govt officials need to be sensitised so that they can force such people to be sensible who think that they are superior to women. This is the reason they are called lawmakers or lawkeepers.
Hanging is too easy. To make them an example, they should be stoned to death. Half burried in ground, they will die a slow but most painful death
I think death is not those culprit derserve ,infact they derserve more than that. Their both the hands and legs should be cut and they should be beaten up with iron rods. MPs who are bursting into tears,trembling with rage, voicing their anger at the teenage rape in delhi,direct result of years of incompetent Delhi police ,asking for the head of commissioner on a platter ,in the parliament,have just voted in Rajya Sabha to legitimize the very same INCOMPETENCE, INEFFICIENCY,IGNORANCE and NO MERIT enshrined in the PROMOTION based ON RESERVATION/QUOTAN bill. Now they are trying to do the same in Lok Sabha. If one single incidence can cause so much of havoc all over india, India imagine if the incompetence is spread throught out india,into all aspects of society,perpetrated by the very MPs supposed to lead india in the path of progress.

Punishment should be such that from now onward no one dare should think of committing such a heinous crime....They should be given harshest punishment like chopping off their body parts everyday so that they should also go through the pain....
Instead of thinking what kind of punishments should be given & blaming Delhi police/government of not doing anything I think we need a reform in social thoughts of our society.Everyday we read about women molestation , eve teasing rape but have we ever heard that a man is molested by a group of women ? No ,this is because they never think about this. I think we should revisit our culture which respects women and have given them title of Janni.Why not we respects other women like we respect our sisters,mother or wife ? I am not sure what should be step for this but below will obviously help in minimizing these instance : 1)Education - I think more educated a person is more he is afraid of laws.We can have strong punishments for rapists but it does not matter to an uneducated person. 2)Respect for women. 3)Swift and Strong punishments 4)Special police arms for women protection
Atleast now the govt should take to note what is happening in delhi to woman the capital is the one of the most unsafest places for women in the world. Hang them all who indulges in crime against women. This is the heinous case if the govt doesn't react time for people to take violence into their hands and spot kill the criminals......
Such unfortunate incidents increasing only prove the "chalta hai" and mediocratic approach on part of Delhi police and the lawless-ness that is now part of the "Gunda raaj" in Delhi Sarkar. What else can be expected in a state with neighbouring states flourishing anti-elements everywhere?

what can we expect from the system which is toothless, spineless and has got no authority, this is not an isolated event, root cause lies in the social & educational structure which is simply crumblling in the absence of a strong law enforecement agencies, lot more cleanup is required than just punishing these cockroaches, breading places are many and are very deep, there has to be a bottom up approach. Nothing short of cutting the limbs of people who commit such crimes is acceptable, the system must also address the socio-econimic structure of india, the present system is just not sustainable and more such crimes are waiting to happen all around, the sad part is our political class and judiciary system is simply sleeping, damn ! Fact is that there is no fear of law implementing agencies in Delhi as almost most of them are busy in any thing but prevention of crimes . Factually any unlawfull / illegal activity you name it is thriving due to protection money /hafta getting collected from each and every person who is engaged in it in any part of the city , so do not expect any wonders except for the eyewash and some press statements here and there . If one want to see actual delhi just visit I S B T ,RAILWAY STATION OR EVEN AT THE AIRPORT BESIDES TOLL NAKAS WHEREIN YOU ARE WELCOMED TO THE CRIME CAPITAL OF THE COUNTRY . The culpit should be hanged in public neck should be cut. H'able Prime Minister and Home Minister wake up open your eyes. Any one found of teasing or misbhaving with the woman a law should enforced him to hanged in public or jail term should be for 15 years.

Its time to have special courts created to punish such criminals, inhuman beasts both swiftly and strictly. Such brutal crime should get a brutal punishment, and no, death penalty is not the right one. Lynch these animals in public, beta them on a daily basis for 20 years, do with them what they did to the girl and in the same fashion. May be our politicians are busy drafting a VOTE BANK motivated SC ST reservation bill, or the FDI bill etc, but they should give some time to such incidents and formulate strictest laws asap.

I really dont know how to react to this barbaric act by few saddistic individuals, i am even more terrified and wonder what type of security national capital provides to working women. shame on ruling government who doesnt seem to learn anything from past incidences.
No security for common people unless there is media focus. All available security is for politicians, their relatives, hanger-ons and senior govt officials. I am surprised that none of the politicians/cops have yet questioned what was the girl doing out at 9:30pm in the night. Their thinking runs only in this direction. Even God cannot help common people in this country.
