Subhash Chand Tomar was on ventilator since his admission at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital on Sunday evening.
"With deep regret, we have to inform you Constable Subhash Chand Tomar succumbed to his injuries at 6:40 AM today," Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar said.
Tomar, a graduate in arts, hailed from Meerut in Uttar Pradesh.
He was posted in Karawal Nagar area and was called for maintaining law and order at India Gate area during the protests on Sunday over the gangrape of a 23-year-old girl on December 16 here.
Tomar, who joined the police in 1987, was found lying injured on Tilak Marg and was rushed to the hospital.
As a mark of respect, the Delhi Police decided that all personnel will donate one day's salary to Tomar's family.
Police had already arrested eight persons, including an activist of Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party, earlier and charged them with attempt to murder in connection with the injuries caused to Tomar.
A senior police official said murder charges will be now added to the case.
Blaming the protesters for Tomar's death, his son Deepak alleged that protesters brutally beat up his father.
“The public is responsible for this because they beat him up so badly. Can they return my father?” he said.
Tomar's brother Yudhveer Singh also echoed similar views and said, “What was his fault? He was only doing his job and now he is no more.”
The policeman's another brother Devinder Singh said, “His family has no other source of income. He was very committed to his duty.”
Its such a big lie being told by delhi police .The forensic doctors are corrupt, playing hand in glove with the delhi police, the guys who have done the post mortem shuild be interrogated and their degrees should be derecognised and shuold be send to jail, along with the police force for which they were working. Its such a non sense thing. The didnot mention the condition of arteries ie coronary arteries.and its a rare of rare case that a heart attack should be caused by lying, arrest them and make them tell the truth.delhi police wants to save their a#s...sorry ppl will kick it again and again as the delhi police is most corrupt, iefficient and cruelest police force in the world
I find many non sensical remarks by readers.. Co op dies is relegated but lady. Serious takes priority.some news channels who were cornered seem to be at the head of these morchas. Police will have to organise morchas for giving death penalty to those involved in crime.PM CM Ministers should hold discussions with the family and morcha .this should be the counter demand of affected family and police.there should be a limit to all non senses.
The MADNESS which began on December 16th.... was matched equally with a uncivilized response a week later!!! A constable has lost his life by the unruly protestors. A family is bereaved. The father whose daughter life still hanging by a tread has appealed to protestors to stay calm... but the protestors are busy in the melee. They are on a high pedestal ignoring the real cause. Everybody is shouting..."WE WANT JUSTICE" & at the same time not willing to give justice a chance to prevail. They are confused. Every group want their own model of punishment. Electronic Media are comparing Barack Obama & Manmohan Singh about the promptness in appearing in TV to address the nation at the time of distress. Some are comparing how Barack Obama has tears in his eyes & our PM has responded a week later. Nobody is telling the TRUTH that despite of Barack Obama tears the gun lobbyist in the US has refused to withdraw the gun culture in US. But the Electronic media is also spreading MADNESS......
At least 70-80% of the men who were protesting at the India Gate must have behaved sometimes or other in an inappropriate manner with women...but they were seeking justice by shouting slogans. Many among them must have misbehaved with girls at the venue itself, as has been reported in IE. This is crowd of hypocrites,, we have become a country of hypocrites..!! People join protests according to their political affiliation be it at the time of Lokpal agitation or this time...no body cares except the victim's family members...others are there for photoops....this country's people only want to shift the blame all the time on Police, Government or other authorities and are never willing to LOOK WITHIN....This hypocrisy must end if we are to become a truly mature country.
News is wrong. Tomar died of heart attack and not due to injuries during protest. Its wrong propaganda by paid media in collusion with congress!!
Everybody has right to protest against wrong policies of Govt. but unfortunately one of the old police man got fatal injuries and died. I have noted that Govt.has no proper planning to tackle protests of mob as our police lacks necessary training. Change in policies are necessary to tackle law and order problems as the Police system failed to adopt new tactics to avoid casualities.
Congress goons must have infiltrated protesters and killed Tomar. This death did not help agitators but helped Congis. This case should be investigated from this angle as well.
Only and only this shameless Govt. is responsible ... they don't try to understand ground reality .. This Govt. is working on "Divide and rule policy". We all must understand this ..
Very true Govt. is Responsible for everything. we have only rights not any responsibilities
Delhi Police has sacrificed one of his best jawans. The Death of Mr. Subhash Tomar is a very very sad news. I shall say Delhi Police has lost one more M.C. Sharma who lost his life in Batla encounter.
Is this the way to seek justice? This is so sad. Wake up india, it's time.
No city in our country is safe for women or children or elders. Crimes of kidnap, death, robbery etc occur all around us every day. Our response is more of emotional nature than of prudence. Society has a huge role to play in checking crimes and the law and order machinery can succeed in its duties only when there is a responsible society. The news on swiss banning rape provoking costumes should be an eye opener. Traveling in late hours, carrying valuables at night are all crime provoking so also wearing costumes that invite troubles. Mob violence or use of excessive force by the police will lead to further detriorations oflaw and order.
A Summary Note on Police Reforms Need of Police Reforms: %uF0D8 With the growing nexus between politicians & criminals, criminalization of politics & politicization of police forces, the country is fast turning into a criminal state. %uF0D8 Also, without drastic systematic improvement in the police system, our nation can%u2019t become a better democracy & stable economy. %uF0D8 Thus, it is the need of the hour to initiate police reforms to make India strong & a truly economic super power. History, background, main functions & key features of Police Act of 1861: %uF0D8 First revolt against British Raj by policemen Mangal Pandey & other freedom fighters in 1857 %uF0D8 Formation & enacting of Police Act in 1861, which largely governs Indian police forces & was basically meant to protect British Raj in India during colonial era prior to independence. %uF0D8 This act gives each state government the power to establish its own police force. The main functions of police are first to maintain law & order situation
This is sad news indeed. But this is also a collatoral damage as put by police chief. This happens when you protect the corrupt.
RIP Subhash Chand Tomar..My prayers with your family..Your passing away i hope is a real eye opener for Young India...Is this what we are or have become..such short sighted vision?..have we lost the ability to behave in public?..Is this the young india that we dream off?..justice on the roads?..where are we heading?..it is scary?..I would really like to see the so called representatives of Young india to own up to this and take responsibility of his death?..It's easy for all of us to appear before television and do press conferences with the media hyping and flaring up emotions but what would make us real men and women is to introspect as to the course of action we should pursue in the future to avid such incidents again.
So he died while beating up young students ...and citizens paying his salary to protect those who too were servants of the people but used him to face their anger....collateral damage...like the woman whom his colleagues killed at familial ground during ram dev protests...so a warning to police..careful when you attack unarmed citizens...
The brave girl is in a very serious condition. Please pray for her life.Don't run amuck showing idiotic & violent behaviour. Can the so called protesters bring back the brave policeman Tomar to life. Will the so called protesters now organise themselves to pay tribute to the late security man.Shame on you violent protesters.
The death of Shri Subhash Tomar is indeed sad, condemnable and unfortunate though at the same point of time, I am giving some of the reactions shared by the top brass of political parties and administration to explain how disgusting some there comments are. It is a sad and unfortunate incident and we will setup an inquiry in his death but I think he should have been more careful. Or he invited this fate upon him when he joined the police service. Police should not be present at places where there are more then 500 agitated youth.
Tell The same to the Girl also that She should be More Careful. Shame you support one cause and condmened other.
The sad demise of Shri Tomar is most shocking. The culprits who committed this crime should be brought to book at the earliest But one can not agree with comments of Gopinath. If the Police Force can say that when such things occur stray incidence of excesses occur, the same can be said about this case. What really happened is yet to come out but loss of the family is unbearable and every body must sympathise with it. However as were the scenes on TV policemen brutally hitting the protestors running for shelter and with water canons in this cold weather due to which more than fifty young people are in hospital the fault lay on both sides. But the Police had the authority force they should have been more considerate and acted with restraint. Criticism of media is not valid, it had to depict ire of the people in a case which has become vital for the society.
All violences are bad in nature as well as sour in taste but yet unless we express our displeasure in one way or the other;all shall prefer to ignore it all such Injustices inflicted by us by ourselves. Therefore unless we find a model way to disapprove the way our Govt.machinery are being managed and run,it keep itself engage in finding all ways and means in securing a self gain instead of offering of any service to the Common General Public who are even unable walk free within us in Broadday light. What living it is! In between the tussle of war for ensuring continue holding of Power in one's hand;we are sacrificing the ordinaries within us without making an attempt to find out what is causing us to behave this way everywhere within the Globe. As and when Injustice dance over Justice which is done purely to protect the Corrupts;there is no way we can get an escape from aggressive NATURE but shall have to face the consequence of doing so.
The rape was shame for delhi but the way things reported & running commentry was done by media like a cricket match is dangerous to society. The police have to create fear in mind of criminals. As well there have to be no boundry to police to say this case belongs to that area.Let police register the case & tr the same to any indian police station but prime responsiblity have to creat sence of security in public.
Will those responsible for Shri Subhas Chand Tomar's death be brought to justice? Will those hundreds of unruly demonstrators also demand justice for him? May God rest his soul in peace. As a citizen I salute him for dying in the service of the country.
Shame on media to hike the trp is doing all sort o nonsense. The media wants to run the government , frame policies, conduct trials after passing judgement and every thing in the name of supporting common man. Its time the media doesn't interfere in the matters relating to common man. There job end in reporting and not to create a situation to report. As Katju rightly said its easy to fool the 90% of indians and this media is rightly proving this again and again for their business. So many rape incidents happen across india but by constantly feeding the delhi incident they are raping our tolerance.
