Delhi gangrape remarks: Case filed against Asaram Bapu (Express archive)

Muzaffarpur (Bihar) A case was filed in a local court here against spiritual leader Asaram Bapu for his remarks in connection with the Delhi gangrape case and the court has taken cognisance of it.

The complaint case against the spiritual leader was filed by advocate Sudhir Kumar Ojha in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate(CJM) S P Singh, under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The petitioner charged Asaram Bapu with allegedly insulting women in general and causing hurt to the sentiments of the people by making controversial remarks during his sermon in Rajasthan's Tonk district last week in which he had blamed the Delhi gangrape victim for the incident as much as the rapists.

Ojha prayed for stringent punishment to the spiritual leader for his 'condemnable views' in the Delhi gangrape case at a time when the entire nation was outraged and protests were taking place across the country demanding enactment of strict law against the rapists.

Cooked facts by Vineet on 10 Jan 2013

Had the media shown the complete words of the saints, the wrong interpretations would not have happened.Nobody showed that the saint had offered support to the victims family.Nobody showed that the saint prayed for the better journey of the departed soul. How can a saint criticize the victim and at the same time pray for her.The intent behind the comments of the saint was to emphasize on having a strong moral character and not to criticize the victim. We should ashamed of being a part of country whose media is biased against all the saints who are holding this country intact

primitive societies don't change quick!!! by papu on 10 Jan 2013

It will take long time and real shortage of women for the male population to get civilized and better yet-educated.

Truth by shruthi on 09 Jan 2013

The women association always turn against men by not protesting against rape but men by extremely outrageous placards insulting men very much, thats why people turn against women and telling those comments. asaram is one of those victims, the crime wouldn't be happened if she wasn't at wrong place, wrong time, wrong dress code with wrong company. the case will be rejected.

Blind Faith by Fed on 09 Jan 2013

It saddens me that people like you pass on such comments in our democracy. And it is because of people like you that I sometimes wonder if we our evolved enough to enjoy freedom of speech. by asking to surrender to rapists how is he protesting against rape? But please don't insult my intelligence by answering that. Evolve first. You sir should be charged along with your "victim".

RE:Truth comment by Courage on 09 Jan 2013

Dear Truth, so by your own comments - an admission that you are not a free people and anarchy exists in your country. Every one has a right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness without fear they are in the wrong place and time or no matter what they wear. Maybe you should look at yourself closer and not judge others.

@ANIYAN by Hari on 09 Jan 2013

@ANIYAN::: I wonder how you treat your wife of daughter, I bet they have never seen a happy, free, relaxed day in their life, if they are allowed to speak free without a fear they would tell the same. Irrespective of the sex of the person a human being deserves to be treated like a human and not like some kind of possession. This soceity is bad, the so-called Indian culture is full of hypocrites who are lost and doomed. I am pained to see this attitude from the men. The whole obsession of people either for/against sex is what is causing the problems. Sex is just a part of life, accept it, and move on. this whole obsession about it, and the moral ideas surrounding it are sheer nonsense. nobdoy gives a thought about people defaecating in the street, but if someone kisses in the street it is an offence, how screwed up must the soceity be to think and act this way. The moral policing of people must stop and stop bothering people.

Making scape goat by GM Ullal on 09 Jan 2013

Sri Asram Bapu is a Sant. What else he can say if you ask him about rape. Can he say that the rapist should be killed, hanged or castrated. Because he is a sant, he can only say what he has said. First of all Media should not have spoken to him about the rape. It looks like that the media is trying to implicate Bapu in making him comment on such subjects and make them look stupid in the eyes of people.

@GM by ashish on 09 Jan 2013

He is a conman and should be booked for robbing the faith of so many religiously blind people of india.I really feel pity and shame on India that such stupid and base people become godman in this country.

Asram Dumb Baba blah blah by Das on 09 Jan 2013

This guy is no Saint or Holy Priest,Not at all enlightend, another fake spiritual blah blah baba. Real carriers of vedic wisdom , stay in silence and spread sattwic energy. This Ego Baba is manfesting his jumpy Rajasika/Tamasika brain plasticity. If he stay in silence till next New Year, bliss will caress, hari aum.

Nirasaram by Ajay Kumar on 09 Jan 2013

The man is not a saint, he is a clever wolf, surviving on peoples brittle religious faith & sentiments. He should also be booked for the crime along with the others who have actually done. He may be behind many such crimes, and may be part of many more.

Bapu by Rama on 09 Jan 2013

This so called Bapu could have said "no comments" to sensitive questions. When Gurus are brinless this is what happens.

Utter disgrace brought about by so-called "BAPU" by Aarti Kumar on 09 Jan 2013

Through this post I would like to condemn the pathogenic thoughts of so-called self-proclaimed "bapus". I don't even understand how could seemingly-literate persons like Mr. Aniyan could blind-fold themselves into seconding such a third-grade advice of the so-called "bapu". I would like to pose a question to the ardent followers of such self-proclaimed imposter God-men by posing a question to his followers like Mr. Aniyan ..."Mr. Aniyan, had you mother, wife, sister or daughter been gang-raped and brutalized by a gand of insane animals, would you still have advised her the same?" ...do think about it Mr. Aniyan!

Bapu by Rama on 09 Jan 2013

Whats wrong with calling myself "BAPU". Is there any low against it? Of course, if you follow me, the BAPU, you know what happens!

waste of time by vikas on 09 Jan 2013

by this post I request all not to get into this sort of posting against Godman like bapu. Few words interepreted in wrong sense and made a issue. This will only hep politcal party in making news and there will not be any help to a real victim. Think befor posting.

All the Best !!! by Pankaj Bajaj on 09 Jan 2013

Mr. Ojha my best wishes are with you. Good step from your side. Asaram Bapu should also be punished with the Rapists. Asaram Bapu should should apologize publicly from all the Indians especially women who are more hurt.

Need to plan this case better by NARAYAN on 09 Jan 2013

This case must be refiled under women and minority protection act, as inciting or providing relegious sanction to a diabolical act, then the it stands a chance, it is not the quantum of suite or the public un qualified apology, but rarther the clear symbolic act that you cannot get away with these attitudes anymore

Godman into politics by XYZ on 09 Jan 2013

The way this man did an U turn and said he had not meant what he said.He is a bigger lian than any of our politicians. He is perfect material for politics.I wouldnt be suprised if he contested in elections.

Asaram should be punished with all other rapists by harishgiri on 09 Jan 2013

He is also having same views with other rapists and should be punished with them.

WIDESPREAD CONDEMNATION - BUT END OF THE DAY, BAPU IS RIGHT. by ANIYAN on 09 Jan 2013

It is utter non sense, filing of a case against the grand fatherly advice given by the Bapu. Dead girls parents are trying to become heroes at the cost of the life of their daughter. Yes, rather, they should have involved in suitably advicing her to confine to her tasks, for which she came to Delhi, than chosing to roam around with her boy friend. No one is questioning the freedom of a citizen; but there is nothing wrong in Bapu's advice or comments that the girl should have requested those aggressors to treat her like their daughter. This is the Indian tradition and culture as India gives a lot of importance to Rakhi Bandhan, where unrelated men becomes the brother of females. Instead, she chose to fight back with the men, which definitely would have provoked the men more to deal with her with all nasty means; no doubt. So, here, the advice given by Bapu is correct. I am sure, thousands of parents would have adviced their kids by now to remain indoor and dress modestly. Follow it....

Weird logic by Arun Murthy on 09 Jan 2013

@Aniyan, Ravan abducted Sita after she crossed the laxman rekha. Who is the culprit? I guess for you the culprit was Sita and Ravan just did the right thing by adbucting her. When Draupadi laughed at Duryodhan when he fell into water in her new palace, Duryodhan vowed to discredit/rape her. Who was the culprit? I guess for you the culprit was Draupadi and Duryodhan did the right thing by denuding her in the court. What weird logic you have. You and your guru used the same logic to condemn the poor girl and to exonerate the rapists.

very good step to stop this type of nuisance people from giving wrong advises .... by paras on 09 Jan 2013

bahot hi sahi kam kiya he sir ji ne.. aaasha ram/quiwaisi/ abu azami/ aise log hi rapists ko bhadaka ne ka kam kar rahe he.. unke honsale ko aur majboot bana rahe he...

Well done, Mr. Ojha by neeraj on 09 Jan 2013

I'm with u in this crusade against so-called godman, Asaram. He should be ashamed of his comments regarding a hapless girl, who lost her life in a bid to save her modesty & in the process, gave hope to millions of women in India. He has lowered the name of God he is supposed to be preaching in the name of, by suggesting that the girl was equally responsible for this ghastly crime. First of all, he should come clean of the allegation of murder of two children in his ashram.
