Prayers instead of protests by S.N.Iyer on 30 Dec 2012

We have had enough of violent and other forms of protests. These have made their point to the politicians. But we now need to show respect to the brave girl who gave her live in vain. We need silent prayers to give support to the family. We need groups to be formed of social scientists, legal luminaries and such groups who can formulate proposals for the Justice Verma commission so that we can have implementation and suggestions and methods to quicken the legal process to deal with rape and gender related cases all over the country. A special session at the present stage will be a waste of time and only be any empty attempt with no solution and the opposition want to use this incident to gain some brownie points. They are also guilty of supporting rapists as their candidates in the recent Gujarat elections!

clandestine manner ? by Pradeep on 30 Dec 2012

Clandestine Manner? What do you expect? The body of the most unfortunate victim be cremated in a full public view. Victim's body be used for Media to fill the time? Politicians who did nothing all these years to give a chance to play opportunistic politics? Policemen are also our brothers and sisters who have their families. The Administration is not looking to the problem but avoiding any untowered incident.

Privacy but not for the failed leaders! by Shiva on 30 Dec 2012

It is tragedy and still happening against women after 64 years of independence. The nation has failed due to the failure of its leaders. It was said that no details of the victim's funeral was released in the media due to privacy, Manmohan Singh and Sonia received the body to score political scores and for them, there is no privacy!! This is India and I doubt whether women's situation will improve!

Steps to assure women's safety in largest democracy that is India by KS Raghunathan on 30 Dec 2012

Political parties must publish the list of MPs and MLAs facing allegation of "rape" from their fold and immediately expel them from their parties. Only after fast track courts absolve them of the heinous crime, should they be inducted back into their parties, if at all that is required. Fast track courts should award the ultimate capital punishment to "rape convicts." These steps are required to assure women that government/parties are seriously concerned about their safety in our country. But,in the largest democracy, where criminals are also doubling as lawmakers, can these be expected, where every "vote" is being counted by parties to "survive or defeat" No-Confidence Motion merely to "hold on or capture" power ?

Gang Rape Victim Laid to rest. by porcher555@gmail.com on 30 Dec 2012

Though her misery and pain have been incinerate, her misfortunes have been imprinted on collective psyche of India. Unimaginable 'Bhrashtachar' committed on this lady brings tears to every eye over the globe where this news reaches. Where do we go from here? If Sonia Gandhi has some compassion left she could carry the cross for this Lady till a draconian legislation is passed commensurate with this holocaust perpetrated on an innocent citizen. A zero tolerance regime where mothers, sisters, daughters could breath the air free of predatory, testosterone charged males.

Fear of the indian government by Thierry GANTOIS on 30 Dec 2012

It is striking to see the fear the indian government has of the indian population anger. They really try to keep everything under the tightest control.

"Delhi gang raped victim" laid to rest------ by rnp on 30 Dec 2012

Dear Editor, Your adjective "Delhi Gang raped victim" is disrespectful for the brutalised and now a dead person. While most media describe this person by Damini or Nirbharya this paper continues to call her "Delhi gang raped victim" the term devoid of any respect for the respectful but victimised person. The staff of your publication seems unsensitised to this when others have chosen to name her with respect. Wake up you guys and read other papers and come to their standard.
