A month after the gangrape and torture of a 23-year-old woman who later died in a Singapore hospital, the trial of five men arrested in the case was sent to a fast track sessions court on Thursday. The lawyer for one of them said he would move the Supreme Court to shift the case out of Delhi.
A sixth accused is said to be a juvenile and police are seeking permission from the Juvenile Justice Board for an ossification test to establish his age.
Metropolitan magistrate Namrita Aggarwal sent the case of gangrape-cum-murder to the special fast track court of additional sessions judge Yogesh Khanna, where it will be heard from January 21 on day-to-day basis.
The five accused — bus driver Ram Singh, his brother Mukesh and their friends Vinay Sharma, Pawan Gupta and Akshay Singh — were produced in the Saket court on Thursday for the trial committal proceedings.
Speaking to reporters outside the court — the magistrate has banned the media from reporting court proceedings in the case — lawyers for the accused said they had received copies of the chargesheet and the e-challan filed by the police.
“All documents related to the chargesheet have been supplied to us today,” advocate M L Sharma, counsel for accused Mukesh, told reporters.
V K Anand, advocate for Ram Singh, the driver of the bus in which the woman was gangraped, said he would approach the Supreme Court to get the trial transferred out of Delhi.
“They will not get a fair trial here since there is too much pressure. The trial should be shifted to any other place, except Delhi and UP,” Anand said outside the court.
Sharma, too, voiced his “apprehension” of threat to his clients. “With the pressure on the court and police, I fear that my clients’ lives are under threat. They might be killed before the trial is completed,” Sharma said.
The five men are among the six arrested for the gangrape and torture of the woman on December 16 — an incident that sparked outrage and protests across the country.
She and her male friend were assaulted after they boarded the bus at Munirka while returning home from a movie. More than an hour later, they were thrown out of the bus at Mahipalpur where they lay on the road until police vans carried them to Safdarjung hospital. The woman died of injuries at the Mount Elizabeth hospital in Singapore on December 29.
New measures fore women safety
At a meeting of the security commission for NCT of Delhi, chaired by L-G Tejendra Khanna, the police were directed to register all complaints of crimes against women and ensure that they are dealt properly. The L-G said there should be a zero-tolerance policy for such cases, which can also be lodged with Special CP Sudir Yadav.
Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, Leader of Opposition V K Malhotra, founder of NGO SEWA Renana Jhabvala, police chief Neeraj Kumar were present at the meeting held on Thursday.
Decisions taken at the meeting include:
Exclusive telephone lines for women’s help desk at each police station.
All FIRs on crime against women be recorded and registered as stated by the complainant.
On last Friday of month, women groups to meet Special CP.
An open house discussion at the L-G’s office.
Police must maintain ‘respectful and civilised conduct’ while dealing with women.
Credentials of staff working in public vehicles to be checked, verified and cleared by police.
Drivers of public vehicles to have photo IDs as part of public service badges.
225 routes identified for more patrolling at night.
1,600 “dark” areas identified, orders go out for streetlights.

Government should deploy women marshals. 50% reservation to be given to women in all sectors and in every thing Daughters should get property right in all states. The case to be moved to the Supreme court
Trial at Delhi or trial at Timbuktoo, the result be the same. Outside custody, or if freed, they would be massacred by mobs of public. Or ,if jailed, the inmates would slit their throats. So,to be fair and kind to them,Supreme Court Special Bench should send them to death legally, saving them all the venom that awaits outside court jurisdiction. Such is the anger of the people that the gangrapists are doomed one way or the other.
These advocates are trying to fool the courts PL. judges decide immedaitely and hang all the six and their advocates also immeaiately
Put the sugar syrup on their erected private parts and should leave red ants on it........with their hand tied up
This proves that the rapists know all the loopholes possible. From hitting the male friend on the leg that is a well known strategy in rowdy circles to removing traces of evidence and planning the bus trap, they knew it all. Now they hire a lawyer possibly known to their slum councillor or boss who has political clout. They knew how to kill the girl without using a knife. They tried to pass it off as an accident. So now they will ask for moving the case, say they were not the bus, the victim was in bad shape and wrongly identified them. Also it was dark so how was she sure? They might even blame the juvenile as he cannot be punished and say they only hit the victim etc etc. So it is clear that the rapists knew it all. How come they did not kill the guy? That would have removed evidence right? In fact they could even become lawyers and later stand in elections. They will get alibis and say they were in a temple that night.
it can also be that isn't their first victim.... and it depends on the people if they go out on the streets or not.... i.m no indian but i really wish that people do protest and do not forget... it depends a lot on that as well....
these criminals should be hang publicily this is fair justice...but unfourtunately our law seems to provide them safety and due to this the bloody culprits demand fair justice ..somebodypls ask them what they did was fair???????
Yes. The poor rapist kid.. cho chweeeet! If law can not try the kid - Please give him a lollipop and balloon and let him go free. But just let public know where you are going to let him free. I am sure public will do the rest of justice themselves within minutes of getting their hands on the kid.
Still couldnot understand why we need lots of hearing. First thing is that if they did crime: Yes or No. If yes why so many day's is required. If we spend time on such proven case from day to Month and Finally to year then what about those other case which we still need to prove it. Out legal system is very weak and criminal are having full confidence that there will always get chances to get out of this.
So, a typical lawyer at his job again - to ensure injustice by: a. somehow diluting the case; b. somehow bringing irrelevant issues into the case; c. some how delaying the case; d. somehow proving the victim as the real culprit; e. somehow purchasing the witnesses (and others); f. then lie-lie-lie; AND in the end DENY JUSTICE. I think before taking care of the king - take care of the king makers. Therefore - before punishing these criminals, there should be a law to punish "criminal liars (lawyers)".
Many Crimes are happening in India. Rarely rarest crimes also happening. Many cruel murder cases also there. Court proceedings are in progress in all cases. All Dependants of the accused are expecting to finish their case very fast. No one has a right to interfere on Court Proceedings. But in this case, many medias and other organizations are interfering. Proper enquiry has to be conducted in all aspects. If found guilty, maximum punishment can be given. Other cases like murder, attempt murder etc. also given equal priority like this
When all the six rapists are arrested and also every one know what was done on 16th December ,why to delay the most needed punishment. This is very much now important as not a single hour passing with out crime against females of all ages.Do not see the age of rapist but consider the act and hanging can save future rapes . It is seen rapists do again & again same crimes. Please HANG ALL six rapists.
OK, so here we go in how to delay the whole issue . . .
I agree with the comments given by others. A juvenile capable of committing rape , murder or any heinous crime must be treated as adult even if he is as young as 10-12 years. Unfortunately the present law does not allow it. Even if the law is amended it will be applicable retrospectively . This might force people to take law in own hand. Some years ago two hardened criminals were beaten to death by a large mob of women inside the court premises in Nagpur as the law was unable to punish them.
Crime was committed within Delhi hence the case shud b within Delhi itself. Hang the rapists in frnt of the public.Justice delayed is justice denied.
This is no juvenile crime, all six set out that evening with the intention of finding a woman and raping her, this is according to their own statements. Its a premeditated crime and this savage juvenile is equally culpable, he pulled out her intestines and raped her several times. He is no innocent juvenile, he is a hardened inhuman criminal who will not change! Why is this case still going on anyway? I am sick of hearing the moronic statements of the defense lawyers who are only trying to delay the case. All the accused should have been hung by now, why the delay? Its amazing how these six people, who no one including their own families have anything good to say about, have brought shame upon a nation internationally and the system is trying to protect them!
Indian Government has highly irritating and spineless peole and only know how to fill their pockets but to serve the public. All they are trying to do is to delay the case and then not take action ever. This is very sadenning and madening that how this is being handled. Angry and Ashamed Citizen
if accused want to take case outside delhi , then take it to Saudi without any delay and let third country decide since indian criminal laws are not meant for accused , it is for criminals only. Human rights sound like crimimal Rights , contituion sound like prostutuion ...etc.
The court should not allow trivial legal tricks to delay the hearing of this case. The case must be decided quickly in Delhi so as to send a clear message to future rapist of what is in store for them.
