"I had said this thing based on the report of a newspaper. If my information is wrong, today I say that I will publicly accept this mistake", Modi said addressing a rally in Junagadh.
However, a number of reports are contradicting what Modi said, including the RTI activist himself who has gone on record to say that he is yet to receive a response from the government on his plea and so the question of his giving anything to media does not arise.
Earlier in the day, Modi, addressing a rally at Jesar, targetted the Congress president by claiming that Rs 1,880 crore has been spent from the public exchequer for her foreign trips.
Addressing the Jungadh rally, Modi said a response given by the government to an RTI application of a youth of Hisar in Haryana, published in a newspaper on July 12 this year, was the basis for his claim.
However, the youth Ramesh Sharma questioned the figures by Modi and said he had not received any reply to his RTI query.
Speaking at Jesar, Modi said "to those Congress friends, who are accusing our government of uncontrolled expenditure, I want to ask: is it not true that on the foreign travels of the president of the Congress Party, Sonia Gandhi, in the past three years, Rs 1,880 crore has been spent from the public exchequer".
"This clearly means that more than the total yearly budget of Bhavnagar, Jamnagar, Junagadh and Rajkot Municipal Corporation combined has been spent only on the foreign trips of Sonia Gandhi and on her luxury hotel stays," he added.
"I want to ask the Delhi Sultanate what is the compulsion that they have to allow this uncontrolled spending of poor people of the country," Modi told the rally as part of his month-long pre-Assembly election tour of the state.
Sonia Gandhi will be launching Congress' campaign for the state elections on Wednesday by addressing a rally of farmers in Rajkot. This will be her first visit to the poll-bound state.
Ramesh Sharma, the Right to Information (RTI) activist questioned Modi's claim that Rs 1,880 crore were spent from state exchequer for UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi' foreign trips.
"The figures Mr Modi has given today is Rs 1,880 crore. The government has not given any response to it. I never got any such information from the RTI I had filed. I have not got any figure of Rs 1,880 crore. I don't know where Mr Modi is referring to it", Verma said from Hisar.
"I can say that that I haven't got any figure of Rs 1,880 crore because I haven't received any information...", he added.
He claimed he was never contacted by Modi.
Congress dismissed Modi's charge as "falsehood" and said "it is regrettable that the chief minister of Gujarat has resorted to blatant lies which now stand exposed after the revelations of the Hissar based RTI activist to divert the attention of the people of Gujarat from the real issues confronting the state.
The reality is that the CM of Gujarat has no answer to the charges made by the MP's of Gujarat in a representation to the CVC that Rs 1 lakh crore have been plundered over the past 11 years in 17 different scams," Tewari said.
It gives ballast to the charge of the former CM Keshubhai Patel that the current CM is a liar with a capital L and that the entire myth of a vibrant Gujarat rests on the foundations of falsehood", he charged.
Modi said the people of Gujarat would be well served to look beyond the Gobellian false hoods which are the raison de etre of the BJP's political existence.

The Indian Express has shed all its pretensions and has become a congress mouthpiece. The title of this article that there is porrf is completely misleading. Also Indian express has not published that this news had appeared in many news papers of 12th July 12. Congress has not contradicted it. Then how is it that the Indian express is saying that Modi should apologise. It is a pity that the newspaper which was once edited by the likes of the illustrous Arun Shourie is today driven by a out and out congress and Gandhi family chamcha called Shekhar Gupta. Making such a statement exposes Modi's calibre. HE should have first taken the trouble to verify with the RTI activist or filed a RTI application himself to avoided exposing his stupidity. THe RTI activist has very promptly refuted the statement.

Media should be extremely happy because they have something to WRITE about. Now the media knows that money does grow on trees. Finally is the media really bothered about the poor people of HINDOSTAAN, or they are only intewrested in sensationalizing a GOOD FOR NOTHING higher middle class.
The real issue should not be if the RTI activist got the letter from the Government on the expenses incurred on Smt. Sonia Gandhi's foreign trips or should the CM of Gujarat apologise. The CM Mr. Narendra Modi has only made the statement and quoted the figures on the basis of the report appearing in the news paper. It is the news paper who should clarify the truth in the report or the Government should declare the actual expenses incurred on Smt. Sonia Gandhi's foreigh trips and whether she is entitled for such expenses. If the reported news was false then the Government should also clarify why the News paper was not asked to correct it since June 2012. In the absense of above, when the Congress Spokepersons blame Modi, it is feared that they are trying to divert the attention and thereby hide the truth.
Why would anyone take the trouble to refute the newspaper report when anyone can easily judge that it is false, even if there actually exists such a report. Modi should read reports in the newspaper of his complicity in Gujarat massacres and false encounters.
Why Narendra Modi should be apologised, Despite proof that means there is evidence to prove for 1,880 cr. of rupees had been spent by Sonia Gandhi on her foreign tour. The evidence should be presented by the person whom alleged that to prove than the reporter of the case. I think that so much amount might have spended on her account of foreign trips otherwise it cann´t be an insinuation.

In the first place Modi should not have said this in so many words and quoted the figure. However if he has done so however wrong or misleading the figures are the Government has to come out with an authorised figure instead of calling Modi names. Government has to understand that tirade and saying that some other leader has lost mind does not behove a sane and responsible Government. The country has the right to know the truth.

Has BJP ever apologized for their wrong? They crucified Chidambaram and recent supreme court judgement on Subramaniaswami%u2019s petition clearly stated that there is no proof to link Chidambaram having involved in 2G scan. BJP obstructed parliament and boycotted Chidambaram. Did BJP apologize? No. In Gujarat inncoent muslims were targetted and the state machinery used to encourage the killing. Did BJP ever apologied. Firm No. Instead of punishing the guilty, the Gujarat State Govt was busy destroying evidences, intimadating true officers which finally led to Supreme court intervention and enquiries. Since the court does not trust the State Govt machinery, the Court ordered shifting of important cases to neighbouring State. How can BJP aplogize on their allegation on Sonia%u2019s Travel expenses. Let the Congress spent any amount. What is BJP to do with it. They are habituated to sensationalize it by adding several Zeros to the actual figure and use the media to spread the lies. They did for every issues facing the nation. BJP does not have any stand any National issues. They keep shifting and changing. Even if Modi has made a mistake or sensationalized it, First of all Congress has no right to spend any amount on Soniya if she has not paid from her pocket. After all, it is tax payer's money. Why the government has not disclosed the amount still? Blaming the BJP will not help.

Is IE denying that there is any media clipping about the figure reported by Modi?? There is a media clipping of 12th July which gave this figure. The editor said that 100s of dailies published d same figure & same story. Also a fact that nobody in Cong denied it for 3 months.. So who should be apologizing now??? And you say "despite proof"! The fact is that the MMS govt had not given reply to the RTI. Till the time the allegation stands. let the MMS regime prove that they have not spent anything on Mrs. Sonia Ghandi.
