Didi fumes as UPA shifts investors’ meet

Kolkata The Trinamool Congress government had to pay the price of pulling out of the Central government over its opposition to FDI in retail as the Centre shifted the venue for the Partnership Summit - 2013, a mega industrial summit, from Kolkata to Agra.

The summit is organised by the Union Commerce Ministry in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

Union Commerce Minister Anand Sharma announced in New Delhi on Wednesday that the Centre was compelled to shift the venue because of the “strident opposition and hostile attitude” of the state government to FDI. “I cannot bring corporate leaders to such a place where they can face demonstration on FDI,’’ Sharma said.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee fumed over the move. “It’s an act of revenge. We received no letter from the Central government,’’ Mamata said on Wednesday.

West Bengal’s Minister for Commerce and Industries Partha Chatterjee said that he would take up the matter with the CII.

Didi fumes about changing location of Global Investors' meet... by Raoul Ciao on 27 Sep 2012

but , really speaking, Didi's state is not the right one for these investors to anyway meet in. She and CPI before her, believe that the parasitic capitalist peegs are not allowed entry into WB. I thinj she should call for a 2 day bandh to protest that she did not get a chance to terrorise these global investors' in her home state . She should then announce Great Leap Forward and put everyone to cultivation - only organic farming (fethches higher price too) - with no mechanisation and transportation only by bullock cart of produce, even if it rots - across WB. back to ature if you will. WB will soon be a healthy state and envy of the peegs of capitalism. Second, why send the Global Investors' to Agra/UP - just because Akhilesh's dad helped them out when TMC withdrew on FDI? Very unfair, especially as at least WB has calchaar - UP only has agriculture and the goondas will extort money from these poor global investors by kidnappings.

Didifumes as UPA shifts investors meet by s subramanyan on 27 Sep 2012

What a poor state of mind of the UPA minister who has had the business meet changed form Kolkatta to Agra. This looks like an immature and childlie decision. How can the central government be aarty to a decision to negate investment in Estern sector. This also shows that the UPA hgas lost its core deciwsionmaking capacity.

FDi meet by N.R.Singh on 27 Sep 2012

This shows the petty mindedness and vindictive attitude of Congress in general and of Anand Sharma, a rootless wonder, in particular. The excuse given by him flies in his face for everybody knows that SP is also against the FDI in retail. What was the rationale then for shifting the meet to Agra1

Mamta's fuming by Subbu on 27 Sep 2012

From the time she has taken over WB, she has not done anything productive so far - she has been a liability to both WB and India. Even Akilesh has proved totally useless - except for favouring his own goondas, he has proved to be total failure. Though Congress is totally corrupt, others have also not proved successful. About BJP, the less said the better. They have turned Karnataka into a graveyard. In the end, we Indians have to suffer for voting these corrupt rascals.

Mr. by D P on 27 Sep 2012

Like in FDI, The BJP, TMC, SP,AIDMK & other opposition parties, should give an undertaking in their election manifesto to take CBI independant like CAG.They must state tat they will reverse & punish any wrongdoing of CBI.
