Bhubaneswar Former Indian captains Dilip Vengsarkar and Ajit Wadekar batted for current skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni who has been facing a lot of criticism of late for the cricket team's failures.

"At the moment Dhoni is the only one in form. He should continue... India do not have an option," Vengsarkar told reporters after reaching here along with Ajit Wadekar to attend the golden jubilee celebration of a city-based sports club.

On the performance of Pakistan, Vengsarkar said,"Pakistan played extremely well. I think they played better in

all departments of the game."

"India need to improve a lot as the coming matches with England are very important," the batsman of yesteryears added.

Terming India coach Duncan Fletcher as "less than average", he said the team has been losing ever since the

Zimbabwean took over.

Vengsarkar, former chairman of the selection committee, also held excess cricket as one of the factors responsible for the recent failures of India.

"Excess of matches like World Cup, Tests, ODIs and T20s is responsible to a certain extent," he said.

Wadekar also praised Dhoni for his performance.

"He has been responsible for victory of Team India on many occasions," Wadekar said.

Another former skipper, Rahul Dravid, too, arrived here to attend the programme.

Dilip Vengsarkar and Boria Mazumdar eat your words! by Albert Colaco on 10 Jan 2013

These two wre on a rant that India must give back to England 4-0,in revenge for the 4-0 defeat they inflicted on India last year.I nstead of focussing on the SWOT of the Indian team, they were just ranting about getting revenge.Boria Mazumdar is one big mouth,he yeps too much, instead of showing focus and balance.Vengsarkar,of course is his master's voice.

Both former captains decided to comment after a long time signifying that they are still active. anyways, they themselves failed to bat at the time of reckoning but then advises are welcome.

Selctors need to understand the game by kishore on 10 Jan 2013

Dhoni is always coming lower in the order and the new ball has taken its tollby then. Scoring runs in the dead match does not make any sense. Dhoni has a problem with 5 men inside the ring, two new balls - what are you thinking of. Wake up Dhoni & Vengi/ Wadekar. We all balme Sachin as a sefish - what is Dhoni doing in Pak series. Do not want to come up in the order to stabilze things - when the top order is failing continuosly, why he can not promote himself. If you as replacement he can think of GREAT Jadeja / Rohit only. He even nominates Dinesh Kartik as his replacment ( as done by all politicla parties by declaring their successor)- who gave him this liberty. Whn youname Rayudu in the T20 players list why he is not considered.

Selectors need to understand the game by shankar on 10 Jan 2013

I just read an article in The nation a pakistani newspaper which was analysing the cricket series between India and pakistan. Many Pakistani fans were commenting praising Dhoni for his keeping batting captainship as one of the best in the world. They also pointed that he is gem who is not valued and is ridiculed by Indian fans and media. It is 100% correct. He won us world 20/20, world cup and took us to top test team. Stars have retired and it will take time to build another team. No point in blaming Dhoni as he is one of the wisest, coolest and effective captain and batsman we have.

It's better for dhoni to quit captaincy, its team work its not a one man show its not a ramp where you walk in stylish way i have never ever seen you doing a good captaincy so many occasion when match is in critical stage you never ever try to consult your mates how we can do better i don't understand the selector are blind or dumb why the selector don't choose a new captain why they are so concern about Dhoni .there must be something fishy.remove dhoni from captaincy
