New Delhi, Kolkata BJP today said it is time Congress leader Rahul Gandhi expressed his views on crucial issues like the coal mines allocation scam and poverty and wondered that if he is not "fit" for a bigger role at 42 how can he be so at the age of 52.

"The truth is that in the last eight years, we have not heard Rahul Gandhi speak. Occasionally, he has read out statements here and there. We have not heard him speak about corruption, price rise and poverty.... That may have led to the assessment that he does not exist. That brand Rahul does not exist," BJP spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy told reporters.

He pointed out Gandhi has not spoken on the 2G spectrum issue even though it was such a big issue in which former Telecom Minister A Raja had to go to jail. And till now, Gandhi has not spoken on the coal scam either, Rudy said.

"Is he with the Prime Minister or against him? He should speak out whether the charge of a Constitutional institution, the CAG, on the PM for the loot of Rs 1.86 Lakh crore (in the coal scam) is right or wrong. After all, he has to be a statesman. We haven't heard from him," Rudy said.

"Many a times, there are views from his party that he will be holding the highest post in the government, that he will head the party... But a person who is not fit at 42, what assessment can we have that he will be fit at 52?" Rudy said.

Describing Gandhi as a "crown prince", Rudy said in reply to a question that he was referring to the Congress General Secretary's "administrative, political and mental maturity" when he mentioned his age.

SP attacks Rahul Gandhi, questions his ability to lead country

Attacking Rahul Gandhi, Samajwadi Party today said he has shown little to prove that he can lead politically and the country would be safe in his hands.

"Since the last one and half to two years, the country has faced several challenges, so many issues have come up, but I have not heard any serious opinion on these from him (Rahul Gandhi)," S P general secretary Mohan Singh said at a press conference here.

"So, how can I say that the future of the country will remain safe in the hands of Rahul Gandhi?" he said when asked on the role he would like for the Gandhi family scion.

"Because he comes from such a big family, there is a feeling that Rahul Gandhi can tackle the issues facing the country," he said.

"But if you ask me, I have not seen anything so far to suggest that," Singh said.

LET RAHUL COME FORWARD FOR SELF-DEFENCE by take in positive sense on 13 Sep 2012

Congress and Rahul may take such comments in positive sense. Party-people consider & project him as next PM of India. So it is a good opportunity for Rahul to come forward and dispel the doubts about his capability to be the next PM from the minds of all & sundry and not for SP/BJP/The Economist only. He must avail the oppotunity to reveal his understandings of issues of national and international importance and his oratory art. Such qualities (among others) are pre-requisites for success.

Rahul has never rouse to any occasion.. he may not b a minister to correct their actions.. Tell one contribution which he has done to our country? We should first ask his stand on Lokpal bill,Coal allocation.. He is born in a corrupt family which has been looting our country... He can never be PM of our country.. Thanks to MMS he has dented the image of India.. we do not require one more

Rahul Gandhi Brand by HItchintak on 12 Sep 2012

It's no concern of BJP whatsoever whether Rahul comes out as a leader or not. Rahul is following in to the footsteps of MMS. The biggest question is whether BJP exist or wiped out from the political scene being full of corrupt individuals. It would be good for the democracy to keep own house in order before throwing the stones at Congress Glass House.

BRAND Rahul Gandhi by Ravi on 13 Sep 2012

BJP has now come out as true opposition and is playing her role correctly. I appreciate their action and asking for cancelling of all coal blocks which would even the ones recommended by their own CMs and for which Congress is not ready which means Congress Leaders have taken commission for allotting coal blocks and BJP CMs if they have recommended coal blocks is for the welfare of their own states otherwise they would not have demanded cancellation of coal blocks. That is why the opinion of BJP is right and Rahul"s reaction on any major issue including CWG - 2G Coal Blocks and other scams is not known. Whatever little he speaks is from a written text so I donot think he has his views or he can face interviews or he has any views. He himself does not know what are his views on all these things and how he is going to deal in case he becomes PM tomorrow. So people should decide themselves. One should not become PM because he is born in a particular family.

BJP likes to poke into evey where except their own dent by Pradeep on 12 Sep 2012

BJP is a party which likes to poke into everything of others. When it comes to BJP, they are tight lipped. Their double standards can be exposed on all aspects - whether it is corruption(BJP rules states), attrocities against women(Karnataka), attrocities against minorities(Gujarat), they prefer to roll everything under carpet, they will ensure that no one dare to speak againt BJP CM, they will go to the extent of removing the officers who speak the truth, destroy evidences as seen in post Godra Gujarat.

Leadership qualities don't come under brand names! by Curious onlooker on 12 Sep 2012

Rahul Gandhi is not a member of the cabinet council nor holds a portfolio in charge of any Ministry. He is under no obligation to speak out on the workings of any ministry,it being the responsibility of the Minister-in-charge concerned. He was not going to be seen as minister for interference without portfolio! If Rajiv Pratap Rudy's motive was meant to divide UPA by creating a Rahul 'caucus' within the coalition group, the shenanigan stands exposed.

Comment by Rakesh on 12 Sep 2012

I am in no way favoring Rahul Gandhi, but BJP has so many brands that will pull each other's legs. Brans Modi Brand Sushma Brand Advani Brand ABCDEFGH and many more Who can steer India out of this corruption mess as both these rivals are equally corrupt.
