The former Army Chief was provided Z 'Plus' security cover till November 30 but in a review meeting, the Ministry of Home Affairs took a decision that he does not require any protection, Army sources said here.
After the decision was conveyed to the Army Headquarters, it is in the process of withdrawing all vehicles including a bullet-proof car and around 30-35 personnel from his security, they said.
Seven vehicles and 30-35 personnel were deployed in his security duties round the clock, they said.
Gen V K Singh, who retired on May 31, was given a Z Plus security cover till November 30 and he was allowed to stay in Government accommodation in Delhi Cantonment area for one year after he had sought a nine-month extension from Defence Minister A K Antony.
Singh has been named in an FIR by the Delhi Police for his alleged role in protests against the gang rape of a girl in a moving bus on December 16.
Soon after his retirement, he was critical of the government on various issues and shared the stage with yoga guru Ramdev and Anna Hazare on Lokpal and blackmoney issues.
On the gang rape issue, he had recently said the system stands "completely exposed and defanged" as not just one daughter, but hundreds of others are equally vulnerable to predators in the face of "growing impotency" to take any action.
In late November, he had also called for the dissolution of Parliament and had called for its gherao in support of the demands raised by sugarcane farmers from Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh.
In the last few months of his tenure, he became the first Chief of the Army to have approached the Supreme Court against the Government on the personal issue of his date of birth.
Sources close to Gen Singh said he was not happy with the "publicity" given to the withdrawal of his security cover by the government.
They said the former Army Chief had already sent back the Delhi Police security personnel provide to him and had also returned their vehicles.
He was using only security personnel from army and out of them, most were returned to their respective units and only a few people were kept for his personal security, they said.
Request to the government, Please withdraw all the securities having with PM ,Rashtrapti & so on other ministeres or other party leader & give it to us,Because we are not safe in your Umbrella.
All security assigned to all the Center ministers should be withdrawn immediately. See how long they last.
This is what going to happen to the next chief as well unless he wakes up and support his last chief.
All former PMs security cover be withdrawn ! Atleast those who criticize the government policieis !
Another commendable action by the Congress government! Can't stand the fact that such a senior person should be condemning their policies and performance. However every riff-raff of a Minister whose sole aim in power is to make money; is protected by the machinery of state. Whereas, a man needing protection by virtue of the duties to the country that he carried out; is left to his fate! Well done Indian Congress party - you have shown again that you are a great admirer of your troops. The Congress party no doubt beleives that it can fool all the people all the time!
While I strongly recommend that the name & position of such people should be held in esteem, ex-army chief had himself degraded his dignity whilst in service as also after the retirement. One cannot question what he would like to do after retirement, but appearing in public demonstration with diaputed person like Guru Ramdeo is highly deplorable and this move is a right one
well done general, don't bother.
This clearly shows the disrespect of the UPA regime on pro-democracy and anti-corruption voice as they are mud slinging with corruption, crimes and power greediness.
there should not be any tax payers cost security cover to TRAITORS, enemy of the nation withdraw immediately excessive security covers to fmr HM Buta singh/ MS bitta of TADA/sitted MP's MLA's corpo/boards/commissions chiefs. security cover provided to thackerys's should be drawn,Raj/Uday/Aditya's multi millioners, hire their owns as in the case of Salman khan/SRK's
As long as an army person is in the government service, he is duty bound to obey the orders from the civilian superiors, but after retirement, he should be a free bird to condemn what is wrong in the society. His security should not be curtailed.
One can put it in one word, " ONLY GOD CAN SAVE MERI DHARTI MAA FROM BLEEDING "
He doesn't deserve any security, well done it's withdrawn.
that is a great service done to a soldier of India...well done Goverment....you have the utmost respect for your soldiers.
