He hit out at the BJP and Delhi-based Vivekanand International Foundation being run by a clutch of former intelligence officials and RSS swayamsevaks for planning the controversy. The Congress leader named former Intelligence Bureau chief Ajit Doval, who is the director of the Foundation, RSS swayamsevak S Gurumurthy and Subramanian Swamy for “plotting totally baseless and concocted stories” against the Nehru-Gandhi family in the social media. He accused some people in the media for “taking it upon themselves to promote Arvind Kejriwal”.
“We have always felt and practised that we should not pull private individuals into any controversy just for the reason that they happen to be related to someone until and unless there is an evidence that the said political person has done something beyond his authority to help that relation. If two private individuals do business, I don’t think anyone should intervene. That should be left to the authority to act if there is any violation of law. Every individual has the right to do business. Why should he be punished because he happens to be related to somebody?” Digvijaya Singh said in an interview to The Indian Express.
Asked if allegations against Vadra would have any bearing on the clean image of the Nehru-Gandhi family, Singh said, “Even today, is there any evidence of Soniaji intervening in any issue, which may have helped her or her family? Give me one instance when Rahulji intervened... the same for Priyanka. As far as Vadra is concerned, he has every right to do business. He has come out with facts rebutting all allegations made by Kejriwal.” He dismissed reports about Sonia directing party leaders to defend Vadra saying, “No, never.” “Where is the nexus between Vadra and Haryana government? What is the proof? In this matter, Vadra, DLF and Haryana government have clarified their positions on every point raised by Kejriwal. This case is already in the court. People should wait for the decision,” he said, adding that “the Congress does not have to react to a business deal between two private persons”.
Asked whether the Congress would abandon its stance on not attacking family members of senior politicians of other parties now that the BJP has targeted Vadra, Singh said, “We can, but we should not. At least, I will not. The Congress doesn’t do it.”
He attributed the attack on Nehru-Gandhi family by the Opposition to its “frustration” over losing the last general elections. “The BJP is feeling frustrated because they never imagined they would lose the 2009 elections. All this is being planned by the same think tank, Vivekanand International Foundation. Gurumurthy, Subramanian Swamy and Ajit Doval have been planting stories against the Congress president and Rahul Gandhi in the social media, which are totally baseless and concocted. Then there are other people also. But I would not name those in the media who have taken it upon themselves to promote Kejriwal. But I am happy that he has come into politics. We will deal with him politically,” he said.
Asked if he felt that sacking former Maharashtra CM Ashok Chavan over corruption charges was a wrong political call, he said, “In my personal opinion, there is no perceptible case against Ashok Chavan. The Congress has been extremely sensitive on issues of corruption. Wherever there is any prima facie case, we have not spared them.”
Every relation of apolitician, be it wife , son,daughter,son in law- allare private individuals. This is the standard practice of policians transferring their bribes throug such private indivuals. BJP ex president Mr Laxman or Eddyurappa were fools not using this standard practice. Kejriwal had no business in disturbing such stand best practice exiting in our democracy since independence. I fail to understand why congress has to chose failed politician of MP to be the mentor of Rahul.Unpopularity of congress gets multiplied in direct proportion to the statements by this reckless person.
