The party, which has 19 members in the Lok Sabha, gave a letter withdrawing support to the government to President Pranab Mukherjee.
Minutes earlier, six Trinamool Congress Ministers submitted their resignations to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh who expressed sadness over their decision.
The Ministers -- Mukul Roy, Sudip Bandhyopadhay, Sultan Ahmed, Saugata Roy, Sisir Adhikary and C M Jatua -- went to the Prime Minister's 7, Race Course Road residence to submit their resignations.
Straight from there, they went to Rashtrapati Bhavan for give letter withdrawing support.
"We, the six Trinamool Congress Ministers of the Council of Ministers, including Cabinet Minister, went to the Prime Minister's residence at 4 PM and we handed over to him individual letters of resignations of all the six Ministers," said Saugata Roy.
"Now, we have come to Rashtrapati Bhavan and handed over a letter to President Pranab Mukherjee, signed by Mukul Roy, Chairman of Trinamool Congress Parliamentary Party, withdrawing our support to UPA-II government... The President has accepted our letter of withdrawal of support," he said.
Earlier, while receiving the resignation letters, the Prime Minister said he was "sad" that they were quitting, Bandhyopadhay said.
Asked whether the Trinamool leaders had demanded a floor test by the government to check its majority, Saugata Roy said, "no, we did not. Beyond what I have told you, we have not said anything extra."
He refused to reveal what the Prime Minister told them, saying it was confidential.
Mukul Roy was the only Cabinet Minister among the six holding Railways portfolio since March.
Bandhyopadhyay was Minister of State for Health, Ahmed was MoS for Tourism, Sougata Roy was MoS Urban Development, Adhikary was MoS Rural Development and C M Jatua MoS Information and Broadcasting.
Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday had announced her decision to withdraw support to the UPA protesting the Centre's decisions to hike diesel prices, withdraw subsidy on cooking gas and allow FDI in multi-brand retail.
PM to address the nation on FDI at 8 pm
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will address the nation tonight to explain the government's recent decisions on economic reforms which have triggered widespread political protests across the country.
The Prime Minister will address the nation at 8 pm on Doordarshan about the recent decisions on economic reforms, officials said.
Singh is expected to spell out the reasons that prompted the government to allow FDI in multi-brand retail, hike in diesel prices and put a cap on subsidy on LPG cylinders.
He is likely to cite the difficult times facing the economy and emphasise that the steps were taken to push economic growth and generate employment.
The thrust of the Prime Minister's message is expected to be that the decisions were taken in national interest.
In the Cabinet decision on September 14, Singh had said the step was intended to "bolster economic growth and make India a more attractive destination" for foreign investment.
"I believe that these steps will help strengthen our growth process and generate employment in these difficult times," he had said and sought support of "all segments of public opinion" for this.
Mamata sharpens attack against UPA govt
Gaighata: With the six Trinamool Congress union ministers handing over their resignation to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today, party supremo Mamata Banerjee stepped up her barbs against the Congress-led UPA regime saying notifying FDI in multi-brand by a 'minority' government was 'unethical and undemocratic'.
"Without consulting anyone the decision on FDI was taken. Notifying FDI by the minority government is undemocratic and unethical. This cannot be done by force," Banerjee told a meeting here in North 24 Parganas district.
Apparently referring to Congress, Banerjee said, "don't try to browbeat or intimidate us. Nothing can stop or scare me. I don't have money but I don't care. I will continue to speak for the people's interests whatsover threat may come.
"What we say, we implement. A day will come when I will be no more on this earth. Many attempts were made to kill me. But till I remain alive, I will remain like a tiger cub," she said.
"What Bengal could achieve they have little idea. Bengal is the land of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Swami Vivekananda, Rabidranath Tagore and Nazrul Islam. It is a land of culture and sacrifice. Bengal will show the way to the entire country," the Trinamool chief said.
Referring to the capping of subsidised LPG cylinders, Banerjee said, "Your kitchen will be on fire, will you tolerate it?"
Stating that her party was fighting to protect the interests of the people and 'Ma-Mati-Manush', she said "We don't want alms. Bengal can stand on its own. India will see the fight of the people of Bengal. We will win."
Claiming that FDI in multi-brand retail would take away the livelihood of crores of people engaged in small businesses and hit the farmers' market, she said "Everything will be taken away. Will you swallow this or fight?"
"Whether you cultivate chili they will decide. New shopping malls will come up. If they tell you to eat, you will eat. Do you remember GATT? This is the grandfather of GATT."
Referring to foreign retail giants which would come to India, she said "uncle, dunkel will come and they will become twinkle, twinkle and you will be nowhere in the picture."

it is our mistake that we voted such useless people who are sitting on responcible post and working for their own pocket like Soniya through her Robert Vaderason in law. why these under grauate are ruling our nation non matric Soniya is sitting on highest post due to she wae wife of Rajiv who happen to be son of Indira daughter of Javahelal like this Rahul will be there then any Gandhi. GOD GIVE SOME INTELIGANCE TO US NOT TO VOTE SUCH DIRTY PERSONS AGAIN
PM MANMOHAN SINGH SHOULD FEEL SADNESS FOR THE SCAM/SCANDLES DONE BY HIS FRIENDS & EXPRESS TO THE PEOPLE OF INDIA
FDI is OK, but why should the common man bear the burden of inflation and every price rise? The rich and the bigwigs is never affected by the negative impact of the economy. The govt. should think in that line and should do justice to the common man.
She is one of the few on whom no corruption chargers have been leveled. She is honest unlike most of the congresswallahs who do not care about how much we are going to spend for gas or what will happen to the farmers and small traders or how diesel price is going towards noninclusive growth
What is at stake is survival of the nation at the hands of unscrupulous politiciansmotivated by superlative greed ,lack of integrity, misusing public office for private gains, exploiting the masses on caste, communal, regional and linguistic basis. The way out seemsto begiving more autonomy to the states on linguistic basis and having two Vice-Presidents, one for the Hindi and the other for non-Hindi states monitoring governance of the country through two Deputy Prime Ministers from the two regions. Our acadamecians and the intelligentia have to discuss debate and popularise the need for effective decentralisation of governance. This will pramote healthy cometition between the two regions and ensure proper control of resources, inputvs.outcome of projects and programmes.Another UnionTerrotory be built somewhere elsepreferablyin the South/South West of India
GOOD RIDDANCE!!
What will you get after becoming sad at didi's withdrawal of support? If it is baseless for didi to withdraw support, then on which basis Congress is ruling the nation? UPA 2 is now surviving at the mercy of Great criminals like Mulayam and Maya and Karunanidhi. Hence it is now not a coalition government; rather it is a government led by criminals. Imagine where we are!
I am really overwhelmed with your decision of withdrawing support from the most corrupt and ineffective Congress Government. This decision of yours has increased your prestige . I congratulate you and your entire party and wish that in future elections you enjoy better participation in the building of the nation with more members of parliament. I am counting the days of this Govt. which are numbered now. Wish u again a very grand success.
WHAT IS MOST IMPERATIVE AT THE MOMENT THAT THE PM ADDRESS THE NATION AND INFACT THE FUMING ALLIES AS TO THE RATIONALE BEHIND HIS ECONOMIC MEASURES . COUNTRYMEN AND ALLIES ALIKE SHOULD KNOW AND PROPELY EXPLAINED THE NITTY-GRITTY AND THE ECONOMIC SENSE BEHIND HE SERIES OF REFORM MEASURES THE GOVERNMENT HAS UNDERTAKEN. ONE NEEDS TO HAVE SOME ECONOMIC KNOWLEDGE AS WELL AS BASIC UNDERSTANDING REGARDING THE WORKING OF A DEVELOPED ECONOMY AND MEASURES WHICH NEEDS TO BE TAKEN TO BOOST THE CURRENT SLOWDOWN. FDI AND FII ARE SOME OF THE ENLIGHTENING STEPS IN THAT DIRECTION AND NOT EVERY LAYMAN CAN UNDERSTAND- THEREFORE, PROPER EXPLANATION NEEDS TO BE DONE.
Though CONGIs are most corrupt and do not deserve to rule, unfortunately, there is no other alternative. BJP is equally corrupt - look at Karnataka where people gave them a chance to rule and BJP has converted Karnataka into a graveyard. Everyday, that stupid Eddy the ex-CM is issuing threats to his own leadership. However, the nation has to thank Mamta for leaving - good riddance to bad rubbish. Now people from WB should dump her in Bay of Bengal permanently, as she is the most useless leader.
The Strident Calls for FDI in EVERYTHING in Indian institutions-Private/Public/Semi-Private- is REALLY Misleading. The P.Ms one subject Crusade for FDI in Retail and Aviation creates an Impression that WITH ONE STROKE of "Brilliance"ALL Financial worries of the Nation will be REMOVED if Foreign Firms Set Up Retails Business in the Country with the rider that they source out 30% from Indians.Mr.Rajiv Gandhi initiated the opening up of Indian Industry to foreign competition and gave a boost to our own entreprenuers.P.M Mr.Singh is KILLING the local entreprenuership by handing over the Retail Business to foreigners as If Big Malls ARE the solutions to the woes India face financially. This is ike the claim given by the Govt.that the people BELOW PIVERTY LEVEL WILL BENEFIT by the increase in number of Cylinders they get in a year.Mr,Ahluwalia in beaten by miles by these SADISTS who strut around as Ministers and Planners.WHAT THEY CAN COOK WHEN THEY DO NOT HAVE A SINGLE MEAL A DAY
If that is the case then why crib over number of cylinders with subsidy? Then why not attack the issue of the number of people below poverty line? Somehow you never hear anyone propose any solutions for that problem. Just a lot of cribbing from people about subsidies. Why should the govt. give subsidies to people if they can afford to pay full price just because people want to save their money?
Mamta is one of the most mannerless leaders WB ever had in its history. Her way of talking, her behaviour is irritating. As a railway minister, she hardly attended any accident site and her next TMC minister was also equally irresponsible. They were always interested in their state's share and never interested in India as a whole. Her dictatorial behaviour is a pain for her partners and nobody should join her as she is very whimsical. Thank you Mamta for going - atleast you have done nothing so far for WB - do something now constructively. Why resignations after Namaaz - to please Bengladeshi muslims who have enrolled them as her voters ?
Hi Mr/Ms Subbu, This is to reply your comment,If you dont know about Mamata Banerjee , Plz dont comment . She has given a lot to Bengal , we young generation salute her for her honesty, spirit and commitment, she is the real tigress of Bengal...we want her to represent TMC not Congress. What support Bengal received from Congress except criticism?? Now Congress has become useless for every citizen.Plz crosscheck ...how many times petrol price hikes in a year ..Hope in next election is not going in favour of Congress, they will not get a single seat from Bengal Mamata has done the best so far and we want her to see as a leading lady not like Mulayam or Mayabati. U will understand the reality in upcomming election. Thank u very much
Dear Bidanji, show me a single positive step useless Mamta has taken after taking over WB. As a rly. minister, she was in Cal most of the time and hardly attended office or accident site. Mere3ly because there is no other alternative, people of WB have given her a chance and she and her entire team has proved themselves useless. Not a single step to help common man
Good Riddence
This is PM's big moment. Mr Singh should seize the opportunity to explain how the steps will help the Aam Aadmi especially those related to 30% goods from local states and foodgrains, pulses procurement from local market. Indicate what measures are being undertaken to check if Cold Storage and backend infrastructure measurement has to be properly followed so that Food lying unused and which cannot reach market or be preserved in FCI godowns can be handled better. PM may do well to empathise with Bandh sentiment and Raise the LPG ceiling to 12 as 6 is absolutely a low number. Further can FCI enter into JV with Foreign players and improve its own procurement and storage mechanism so that government can handle this situation better. Knowing Mr Singh he will never indulge in mudslinging but he should emphasise on relevance of Parliament sessions and BJP's irresponsible role in walking out of JPC or disrupting sessions. All the bests,
Time is essence for everything being none can bring it back to restore a sitution which is missed.A baby achieve full growth while inside the womb of the Mother for 9 months and 9 days,a delay of which might cause death to both.We always wellcome Reforms but the time we have choosen is possibly wrong in view of the environment we have created within ourselves to force all internal automatic ORDERS to flow revere.INDIA is basically an Agriculture Country and that about 10% of each and every entity do hard labor to remain alive.Therefore,90% of us are engaging in doing associated jobs.If we bypass this 90% to deliver a product directly to the consumer;the consumer shall enjoy a beneifit with pure products supplied but at what cost? These unemployed shall resort to doing activities which definately be against the interest of the Country.Hence we require enough of preparation for implementing such steps within us which are available abundantly provided we are able to see these.
