Ludhiana In a case, which saw pitched political battles and transfers of three of its senior officers, including DIG Ferozepur, the Punjab Police on Sunday claimed to have safely rescued the minor girl, who was allegedly kidnapped from Faridkot on September 24, from Goa. The police also arrested main accused in the case Nishan Singh.

However, two other accused, Nishan’s mother Navjot Kaur and Dimpy Samra, who have been absconding since the day of the crime, are yet to be arrested.

“Nishan was arrested in the afternoon. As promised, we will hand over the girl to the family. We will interrogate Nishan to know about the wherabouts of Samra and Navjot Kaur,” IG Bathinda Zone, N S Dhillon, said.

The police is getting the medical examination of the girl done. The two will be presented in a court on Monday when transit remand will be sought.

Nishan’s whereabouts were known after he bought a SIM card as Gurpreet Singh, the fake identity he was using in Goa, and called a friend in Punjab four days back.

DGP Sumedh Singh Saini, while briefing the media, said a Punjab Police team found the duo at Baga beach under Calangute police station.

He said while on September 24, Nishan along with four others came to girl’s place and took her away, 13 others assisted him from other places.

“They went to Moga from where the girl purchased clothes and then moved to Chandigarh where they stayed for two days in Sector 22,” Saini said, adding that they later went to Paharganj in Delhi from where they sent their photos and letters by courier and then boarded a train to Goa and were living in a tourist hut at Baga beach.

A police party comprising Inspectors Narinder Singh, Amritpal and Sanjeev Kumar and a woman constable arrested the duo.

Meanwhile, the girl’s father who along with Congress MLAs was sitting on a dharna on Sunday, said, “It is a great relief to know that my daughter has been found.”
