Ballia The family of 23-year-old Delhi gangraped girl has taken a strong exception to Asaram Bapu's controversial statement on the girl, terming it as "illogical".

"It is an absolutely illogical statement least expected from him," the family told newspersons here.

"We had immense respect for Asaram Bapu and also have many books related to him but as soon as we get back to Delhi we would put them on fire," the brother of the deceased said terming the statement as "very cheap and downgrade."

"Godman or saints can never say anything of this sort... It only exposes his mentality," the family said.

Asaram Bapu had yesterday said that the rape and murder would not have happened if the victim had called the rapist killers her brothers.

Referring to the growing incidents of rape, the family said that strict laws were necessary to check the crime against women and also for changing the attitude of the people.

The father of the paramedical student said that the family had great hopes that she would recover when she was being taken to Singapore for treatment.

Meanwhile the district administration is preparing for the "terahi" (ritual related to death) of the girl on January 12.

ASP Ashok Tripathi said that though there is no confirmation of VVIPs attending the function, the district magistrate has started preparations in case any of the VVIPs decide to attend it.

A helipad is also being prepared in the village.

Plea reaches court for criminal case against Asaram Bapu

Lucknow: An application was today moved in a local court here seeking direction to lodge a criminal case against spiritual leader Asaram Bapu for his remarks in connection with the Delhi gang-rape case.

The application was moved in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Rajesh Upadhyaya by social activist Madan Lal Shukla.

The applicant has alleged that Asaram Bapu made the statement to insult women, which was an offence under the Indian Penal Code (IPC), his counsel Pramod Kumar said.

The words of the spiritual leader were deplorable not only for the victim, but for entire womanhood, he alleged.

In the petition, Shukla also said he wrote a letter to the Director General of Police, but allegedly no action was taken.

The CJM court has sought a report from Hazratganj police on the application and fixed January 22 as the next date of hearing.

Asaram Bapu recently courted controversy for suggesting that the victim of the brutal sexual assault in Delhi was equally responsible for the crime and saying she could have called her assailants brothers and begged them to stop.

The young woman was gang-raped on the night of December 16 in a moving bus and died nearly a fortnight later at a Singapore hospital.

Congress hits out at Asaram Bapu

New Delhi, Jan 8 (PTI) Congress today hit out at spiritual leader Asaram Bapu for his controversial remarks against the Delhi gangrape victim and then against the media saying they "reflect a very sick and unhealthy mind".

Party spokesperson P C Chacko rued that at a time when the whole nation is outraged over this heinous crime, these "so-called spiritual leaders" are "aggravating the problem" with such utterances, which no civilised society can endorse.

"He made a statement and today he is blaming the media... the statement is condemnable and atrocious. It reflects a very sick mindset of these leaders. They should refrain from making such utterances," Chacko said.

Unfazed by the outrage sparked by his remark against the Delhi gangrape victim, Asaram Bapu today sought to justify the comments and compared all those criticising him to "barking dogs".

Asaram also compared himself to an elephant who will not respond to "barking dogs" and said his remarks in connection with the December 16 gangrape incident were misconstrued by the media and his critics.

He was at the centre of a controversy yesterday after he suggested that the 23-year-old gangrape victim was equally responsible for the ghastly crime and said the girl could have called her assailants brothers and begged them to stop.

Chacko also criticised Chhattisgarh Home Minister Nanki Ram Kanwar, who reportedly said that crimes against women were happening as their stars were in adverse positions.

The Congress spokesperson said it was unfortunate that people are making "irresponsible" statements saying these coming from any quarter have to be condemned as they affect the country's image.

SPIRITUAL LEADER A MISOGYNIST--RETIRE HIM TO PASTURE by Marisol on 08 Feb 2013

As long as India deprives its female population of dignity, respect, and equality, it will forever remain a third world country, with half of its population able to continue to perpetuate heinous sexual crimes against women and children with impunity. SHAME ON YOU, INDIA and shame on all of you who preach this misogynistic, patriarchal attitude towards women!!

Rascal and shameless by Mohan Lal on 09 Jan 2013

He should be taken to an open public ground and beaten with chappals and shoes, till he dies, nothing else.

Bapu on Rape by dv1936 on 09 Jan 2013

This rascal is a devil's incarnate. How many innocent women he might have raped himself in the name of God. He is an insult to hinduism.

India is the target of a massive psy-op by al makedonan on 09 Jan 2013

This entire gang rape is part of a psy-op meant to discredit India and its traditional leaders. The evidence is clear by the media's response and intentional manipulation of various people's statements. Armies of cyber-thugs based in eastern europe are also being employed to flood the net with comments and concepts that are meant to frame the narrative of this incident. This is clearly part of a Think Tank developed method of asymmetrical warfare against India. Terrorism is failing to shake India so more and more of these typoe of incidents are planned along woith random shootings such as pramod mahajan, royal nepal fam an dthe schools shootings etc in USA

Asaram should focus on AARAAM by Preets on 08 Jan 2013

I would not call him GURU as this is a disrepect to all the teachers who have taught us to do right things! A person whose only focus is hypnotizing the "depressed" people to wrong direction and whose interest lies only in making easy money would not know the meaning of a TEACHER or LEADER. People like him indluge in abusing the needful and praising the powerful. That is what is keeping them alive!

Godman by Moin Malik on 08 Jan 2013

Unfortunately that's the business of most godmen - hypnotizing the "depressed" people and making easy money.

asaram by silvernitrate on 08 Jan 2013

Govt should withdraw all exemtions under Income tax fro all religious institutions. On one hand we are a secular country and on the other all these religious jokers get away with all sorts of stupidies

Shri.Asharam is not saint please, he is more business man. by SHIVA on 08 Jan 2013

Shri. Asharam is not saint, Saint world can not be applied everyone, if he is good preacher doesn't mean that he is a saint. Please come to Udupi Krishna Matt , you can see the scholars in Sanskrit who are preaching, it is more explanations and interpretation of our Puranas, Vedas ,Upanishats, Mahabharata , Ramayana etc. for free and anybody can attend. We should try to build a country where any gender should roam at any point time of irrespective of gender without any fear of loot, murder and rape, Saints should work for this not to give stupid comments. But major problem is white color Looters , rapists are ruling us, so, this will be difficult task. because these looters doesn't want to vacate the place till death. Even in the wheel chair they want to loot and make money.

Why comment on culture when its attitude? by Pranya Jain on 08 Jan 2013

I think we should not be blaming the western culture for the rape. If the culture was the cause then there would be in-numerous number of rapes happening in the west, but that doesn't happen, does it? Also, to a larger extent porn movies are responsible for this, it is also the mentality of those people who do the rape. These people have no sense of respect for others, and I believe such things they learn in their childhood or from movies. Rather than deviating from the solutions(like asking girls to be all covered up), we should teach the people some respect.

Freedom of Speech by Subhash on 08 Jan 2013

Let us consider what the bapuji says.He can not think beyond his religious beliefs. If dont agree just ignore. But you can not or should not condemn. But it is also worthy to note that, the evil does not just rests with the culprists, it is the product of a society, a failed society, where porn starts can become Heroins and heroins do Item(caberet?), heroins are openly called items and vulger and double meaning dialogues are rampant. In such a society, a skinny dress/skirt or mannerism could devinately arose a pervert mind. So Let us blame the society and the changing western culture, but do punish the culprits severely so that pervert minds be frightened. But girls -it is not the question of equality or some thing for your own safety you should behave. In the best interest of your own safety and dignity, please do not wear which is provocative or showcase your love in public.

Asaram. by Rajendra on 08 Jan 2013

Subhas you view is respected on freedom of speech but not of Asaram.

Freedom to hide by Sanjay on 08 Jan 2013

Agreed. Showcase only hate.

Western Culture!!! by Vijay on 08 Jan 2013

Again somebody for western culture bashing. But curiously enough, we never see such gang rapes happening at such frequency and brutality in western countries. The answer is within us, we have to correct our value system and educate our kids and youth on respecting women. Just blaming west will not help. The politicians and godmen are just manifestation of our mindset and society. We all have to take up steps to correct our society, else we are doomed.

Less rape in west by Meera on 08 Jan 2013

There is less rApe in western countries. So lets not hide behind the culture issue and lets face fact that here culprits dont get punished and therefore there is no fear in the minds of the rapist

Dharam Gurus: Hypocrites by Pankaj Bajaj on 08 Jan 2013

I think these "dharam gurus" are all hypocrites only directing the masses in to the wrong direction i.e which helps these gurus in money making not people in their social & moral upliftment. Asaram has lost his mind, may be due to his old age but a statement like this is never expected from him on the critical issue like this.
