New Delhi MDLR chief and former Haryana minister Gopal Goyal Kanda, who has been charged with abetting the suicide of former air hostess Geetika Sharma, had a flat allotted in her father’s name but got it cancelled later when he realised that she was “not entering into any of his traps”, police said.

In a chargesheet filed in a Rohini court, police said Kanda got a flat allotted in the name of Dinesh Kumar Sharma in Gurgaon during January 2011 “to create confidence in the minds of the family members” and Sharma paid a total of Rs 18 lakh on different dates from his account.

According to the chargesheet, Kanda later used his influence over the builder and an allotment cancellation letter dated August 3, 2012 was issued — one day before Geetika’s death. His influence over the builder, police said, can be “established by the memorandum of understanding seized at his instance from his farm house in Gurgaon”.

The chargesheet also states that Kanda purchased a property in the name of his daughter near Geetika’s home in Delhi’s Ashok Vihar “to keep an eye on her movements”. This purchase of property, police said, was “another bait to entice” Geetika into joining the office of the Sundale Educational Society.

Investigations by police showed that Kanda appointed one Chanshivroop Singh as assistant manager in the MDLR group “with the sole objective of ensuring that Geetika remained under the control of Kanda”.

The chargesheet states that Chanshivroop went to Dubai to ensure that Geetika is removed from her job with the Emirates airline. This was after Kanda travelled to Dubai twice on July 14 and July 30, 2010 to “pressurise her to come back to India and rejoin his company MDLR”.

Geetika resigned from Emirates on August 11, 2010 citing “the occurrence of some domestic issues”, states the chargesheet.
