Corporate Affairs Minister M Veerappa Moily said after the information on alleged funding of companies with which Gadkari is associated has come to public domain, the Registrars of Companies will “definitely inquire into it”.
Moily said, “We have not ordered anything. It is all coming in the newspapers. Since it has come in public domain, we told our ministry to make some discreet inquiry to find out what exactly is the matter. Are there any violations of Companies Act.”
When asked by reporters whether the business dealings of Robert Vadra, the son-in-law of Congress chief Sonia Gandhi will also be scrutinised, he said the two issues were separate and there was no link between them.
Media reports have raised questions over the source of funds for Purti Power and Sugar Ltd controlled by Gadkari. Media investigations claim that major investments and large loans to Purti were made by a construction firm Ideal Road Builders (IRB) group, which had won contracts between 1995 and 1999, when Gadkari was PWD minister in Maharashtra.
Gadkari has denied the allegations and offered himself and his companies to any probe.
BJP said it endorses the stand of Gadkari that he was open to any investigation by any competent authority and accused the Union Ministers of taking a partisan position on issues relating to corruption.
“I don't think ministers should be selective about picking and choosing...ministers are taking a very prejudiced line on party basis. I think it would not become very much of his position to make such statements,” BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman said reacting to Moily's statement that his ministry will inquire into the issue.
She also slammed Congress for calling cases of corruption against former Union Minister Virbhadra Singh as a “simple case of tax avoidance”.
“It is certainly not that simple. It is an open and shut case of corruption. Therefore, any attempt to divert it from that is an attempt at cover up,” she said.
Attacking Virbhadra, BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said the person facing allegations of corruption is leading Congress in poll-bound Himachal Pradesh. “What message is Congress giving out to the people,” he quipped.
Asked about the allegations against Virbhadra Singh, Moily said, “I don't know about it.”
Noting that the allegations against Gadkari are of a very serious nature, Congress spokesman Rashid Alvi said the Opposition party and its leadership should clarify about them.
In an obvious reference to Bangaru Lakshman, Alvi recalled that earlier one of the presidents of the BJP has been convicted by the court.
For BJP sake, don't be prez again: Jethmalani to Gadkari

The ruling party seriously thinks that in our democracy they have to decide whom to investigate. This subjective decision might turn out to be very expensive and one certain outcome would be the unwritten rule between the two parties to show due respect to higher position corrupt people of either parties to be spared will be demolished. This time if congress dose it then next time it will be BJP. This will be healthy trend rather than protecting corrupt people of each other group.
inquiry and inquiry = 0 Unfortunate India and unfortunate we the indian. Robert Vadra? no no comments are not invited for royal personalities. India needs a revolution like French revolution. previous revolutions were without sacrifices to see independent India.
Is this allegations framed of Corruption links against B.J.p. National President Mr Nitin Gadkari Politically Motivated just to create pressure on B.J.P. ? Really strange that in the Political Scenario the allegations vice versa are framed by the India Against Corruption but the Government has put the Corruption Links under scanner of Nitin Gadkari , If Nitin Gadkari then Why not others by the Government ?
Paid media like T0l N_D_T_V, H_T and the dynasty party are underestimating the Indian public. The govt has taken no action against the 2G, CWG, Adarsh, KG basin culprits from Kaungrass. No action against vadra, khurshid. Only selective action against the opposition members like Gadgari, Ramdev, Arvind, Hazare. Arab spring coming soon to India.
Hypocritic Congress govt.
BJP state govt. should put Congrees leaders with corruption under scanner.
I am very surprised to read in your newspaper THE INDIAN EXPRESS,about dubious funding run by BJP chief,Mr.Nitin Gadkari and corporate Affair minister declared government will inquired in to the Issue. Last one moth we read many articles news appearing in connection with the corruption against corrupted people but never heard that Corporate Affair Ministry had taken note of it. But when issue come from Gadkari, govt. immediately decided to probe against him. In future what common person would decides to whom they should give shalter and to whom to be punished for corruption. It appears that as far as corruption cases are concerned ministry will give shield congress party members and many inquries will established against opposition parties. All things are very surprising. PRAKASHJOSHI(PUNE)
remember Parkinson's law about in laws and outlaws? Vadra is an in law but Gadkari is an outlaw!
Under Sonia Manmohan, Congress has become synonymous with corruption. Not that BJP or other parties are clean. Difference is Congress is in power. It is trying desperately to cover its shame with a non-existent fig leaf. By all means Gadkari, BSY, etc. must be probed and punished if found guilty. By the same coin Pawar, Mulayam, Maya, and dozens of Congress leaders must be probed and punished too. But this level of probity, honesty and transparency cannot be expected of Congress, I guess. But one thing is sure, common man is watching every word & move of Congress;they will be punished and punished mercilessly.
This itself shows that Robert Vadra has been involved in corruption and Italian Sonia maino, the mother-in-law is keeping quiet. The Congress leaders are in forefront and denying a democratic right for an independent and tranparent investigation of Vadra's business deals.
Because he is safe under the wings (of Madam).
would mr. Moily announce the same type of inquiry against the companies held by mr. Vadra and his family members because proof against them are very demonstrative or Mr Moily is afraid of losing his job?!!!
Point is both BJP and congress has something to hide. It is good that Arvind joined politcs.
How impartial is Sonia's govt. Moily is not prepared to do any inquiry against Vadra , the son-in-law of Sonia though there is demonstrative proof against Vadra. But he is very frank in declaring an inquiry against Gadkari. Would Mr Moily declare a similar enqiry against the companies held by Vadra and his family members or is he afraid of his job?!!!
The ruling congress party should go to the oscars or apply for a nobel prize. When, it is one from their clan, corruption is acceptable, but anyone out the clan it should be probed. Look at the way the probe.A corrupt probe by a corrupt bunch. What has happened to Wikileaks disclosures? Can the congress shed some light. Best of luck to the probe. Vadhra's company also come under the scanner, we only wait and watch.
Gadkari should step down as there is conflict of interest and as advised by Mr Arun Jaitley that there will be allegations against him or any political leader who is having business interest and stepping down will enhance the credibility of the party and his own image.
Looking in to the charges I feel it is very similar to those of Robert Vadra where DLF has given free loan and in lieu of it he arranged facility from Haryana and Delhi Govt., but here there is some difference that Gadkari has offered for any prob, which should be welcomed, where as in Vadra case Cabinet Ministers are acting as a shield to him it proves that there is an nexus between Vadra, DLF, and Haryana Govt., if it is exposed there will be a big nail in Congress's coffin.
Gadkari is the chief of the main opposition party. To maintain probity in public life, he should voluntarily stepdowm and thereby enhance the prestige of BJP. He may be innocent-it is the party s image that is being sullied. Better get down before it is too late.
