Graeme Smith will likely reach 100 matches in charge of his country in the second Test in Cape Town against Pakistan.

Sydney South African cricketer Graeme Smith is set for a new record when he becomes the first player to captain in 100 Test matches, in the first match of the Test series against Pakistan at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.

Having captained the World XI series once against Australia in 2012, Smith will reach the 100 mark as he leads South Africa for the Test against Pakistan for the 99th time, News.com.au reports.

Commending Smith’s achievement, Cricket South Africa chief executive Jacques Faul said that Smith had showed steady leadership which had been inspirational for every cricketer.

Smith has captained in all but eight of his 107 Test appearances and took over a decade ago when South African cricket had a bad period after the South African team was eliminated early at their home World Cup in 2003.

South Africa now has a top ranking in Tests and Smith will likely reach 100 matches in charge of his country in the second Test in Cape Town and at his home ground, Newlands.
