Panchkula The probe into the murder of 24-year-old Hoshiarpur woman, Jyoti Rani, made headway on Sunday with the Panchkula police tracking the location of one of the phones used by Himachal Pradesh MLA Ram Kumar Chaudhary to Sector 21 in the days leading to her murder. Jyoti was found dead at Sector 21 on November 21.

The police sources said that the MLA was using three cellphones.

While two of them have been turned off, the call details of the third number have been tracked to Sector 21, Panchkula. The number was used by him in Punjab and Himachal too.

Chaudhary was absent at the meeting of the Congress Legislative Party that met in Shimla on Saturday.

Though a local court has issued an arrest warrant against him and his two accomplices, Dharampal and Paramjeet, for evading questioning, the police have been unable to nab Chaudhary so far.

Chaudhary had after winning the election from Doon constituency taken out a victory procession in Baddi in Solan district, Himachal Pradesh. Himachal DGP I D Bhandari said police in Baddi were helping their Haryana counterparts in their search for Chaudhary.

Haryana police said the phone number which has been tracked to Sector 21 has also been traced to Baddi. “Calls were made from the number from Sector 21 Panchkula before Jyoti’s murder,” said a police official. The sources said the woman was using three numbers and had switched off one of the phones at Zirakpur, an area near Sector 21, on the day of her murder. She switched on the phone in Sector 21, on which she received calls from one of the relatives of the MLA, Gurmeet, before her murder.
