An insipid India slumped to yet another series defeat with a pathetic display as arch-rivals Pakistan spanked the hosts by 85 runs in the second cricket one-dayer to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series here today.
Today, as events played out, Indian players looked to be the supporting cast in an extravaganza hosted by the historic Eden Gardens in which the Pakistanis were lead actors.
Indian collapse, after managing to restrict a rampant Pakistan to a reachable score underlined the fact that if the bowlers click, then the batsmen fail and vice versa - clearly a team lacking leadership - even grave umpiring errors, like the one that sent Younus Khan packing out LBW off a leading edge could not bring India back into game.
The recent retirement of Sachin Tendulkar does not seem to have helped any, as far as regaining the winning habit by the team was concerned.
Gambhir, Yuvraj, Virat Kohli all went cheaply after consuming a number of deliveries but still not managing to play themselves in. The same applied to Sehwag even though he scored 31 - total lack of application.
The skipper, who made fifty, was clearly having some trouble as he found it tough to negotiate the Pakistani guile in both pace and spin department.
At the end, he was left stranded as last man Ishant Sharma could not keep the Pak attack at bay.
Riding on Nasir Jamshed's second consecutive century, the visitors posted 250 all out and then shot out the Indians for a paltry 165 to record a convincing victory with two overs to spare at the Eden Gardens.
It was yet another woeful display by the famed Indian batting line-up, which has been struggling for sometime now and has been largely responsible for the team's forgettable results in recent times.
The huge defeat to the arch-rivals will now raise questions on the future of some of India's under-performing batting stars, who have let the team down more often than not.
Jamshed (106) notched up his third ODI century, all three coming against India, but Pakistan suffered a dramatic collapse after being at a healthy 141 for no loss at the mid-way stage. Mohammed Hafeez was the other contributor with a rollicking 76 off 74 balls.
The floodgates opened up after the dismissal of Hafeez as none of the other batsmen could hang around for long on a slow Eden Garden track, which made stroke-making difficult after the ball became older.
The Indians needed a good start from their struggling openers -- Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag -- but it did not materialise yet again, putting pressure on the jittery middle-order.
Sehwag (31), Gambhir (11), Virat Kohli (6), Yuvraj Singh (9) and Suresh Raina (18) perished in quick succession to give the visitors the upper hand in what eventually turned out to be a lop-sided contest.
Skipper Dhoni, who scored an unbeaten 113 in the first ODI in Chennai, again provided some resistance with a cautious and unbeaten 54 but wickets kept tumbling at the other end to nullify his efforts.
The series defeat against Pakistan marks another low for the struggling team which suffered an embarrassing Test series debacle against England at home and levelled a T20 series 1-1.
Today's defeat has also rendered the third and final ODI at Ferozshah Kotla in Delhi on Sunday inconsequential.
India lost to Pakistan last time around at home in 2004-05 when they lost the six-match series 2-4.
And now India have lost all the four matches they have played against Pakistan at Eden Gardens.
Chasing a modest 251, the under-fire opening duo of Gambhir and Sehwag had a sedate start. Sehwag scored a few boundaries but just when the partnership looked like building, Junaid provided the breakthrough in the form of Gambhir.
The left-hander chased a widish delivery and the ball hit his stump after taking an inside edge of his blade.
It was a familiar story from there on as the failing middle-order found the going tough against some disciplined fast bowling of Umar Gul and Junaid.
India were reduced to 70 for four as promising Kohli continued and Yuvraj could not get to double digit score, both being dismissed caught behind taking thin edges.
As India stuttered, Gul almost dismissed Raina running into the non-striking end but his throw missed the stumps with the Indian left-hander diving forward.
Raina also started his walk back when he was stumped off Hafeez.
Promoted ahead of Jadeja, Ashwin (3) did not last long going down to the guile of Shoaib Malik for yet another stumping.
Jadeja (13) could not give the support Dhoni needed in the middle when he was caught at mid-on as it was just a matter of time for the visitors to seal the series.
Earlier, under overcast conditions, Jamshed scored a fluent 106 from 126 balls and along with Hafeez put up a handsome 141-run opening partnership.
But India made a dramatic comeback riding on left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja's 3 for 41 as Pakistan were bundled out in 48.3 overs.
After giving the first breakthrough, Jadeja took two wickets -- Jamshed and Kamran Akmal -- in one over to trigger a collapse and Ishant Sharma (3/34) polished off the tail.
From 141 for no loss, Pakistan lost 10 wickets in 25 overs as India made a spectacular comeback.
At the start, the inexperienced Indian attack of Ashok Dinda and Bhuvneshwar Kumar could not make use of the overcast conditions.
In his 'home' debut, Dinda was wayward with his bouncers, conceding three wides -- two in his second over – while Bhuvneshwar too lacked the bite as the Pakistani duo went scotfree.
The 23-year-old Jamshed continued from where he had left in Chennai, while Hafeez made up for his duck with a sensible batting display and rotating the strike.
The duo never panicked and such clinical was their approach that they put on 100 runs in exactly 100 balls – incidentally, Pakistan's first century stand by any opening pair at the Eden.
Part-time spinner Jadeja finally gave the breakthrough almost at the midway stage when Hafeez missed the ball trying to break free.
Azhar Ali (2) continued his poor run when he was run out after being sent back by Jamshed as Pakistan lost their second wicket in four runs.
They quickly lost third wicket as Younis Khan (10) was adjudged leg before despite a bat-pad. Jamshed, however, kept his cool to bring up his second consecutive century.
Jamshed clobbered Jadeja over his head for a straight boundary to move to 96. He straight drove one uppishly in the mid-off boundary region to bring up his hundred.
But he could not carry his innings through as he became Jadeja's second victim. Jadeja claimed Kamran Akmal (0), his third, in the same over to trigger Pakistani middle order collapse.
Brief scores:
Pakistan: 250 all out in 48.3 overs (Nasir Jamshed 106, Mohammad Hafeez 76; Ishant Sharma 3/33, Ravindra Jadeja 3/41).
India: 165 all out in 48 overs (MS Dhoni not out 54; Saeed Ajmal 3/20).

I would be surprised if India mens crciket team would beat any womens cricket team like Australian women, Indian women, England womens I think they might struggle even to beat the womens team, I think women are better than men in cricket shame lost to England now lost to pakistan. Women are much better than men or Indian women's team may be sent instead of mens team to play i think they are much better.
I think better players like Murali karthick,Ambati Rayudu, Rohit sharma, harbhajan should be included and worst performers like Ashwin ,Gambir, sehwag should not be allowed to play anymore cricket
Indian team is unfit for galli champions also they are only fit to eat completely waste players of the world stupids that captain is unfit to team tell him to resign and give chance to other guys
Indian fans:Ask these questions: Who thought he would personally gain if india lost consecutively and dhoni is removed? ( My guess: Gambhir, sehwag - last year, this year Amarnath for not being selected because he was anti dhoni) which players are on top three as most committed on field which ever year (my answer: kohli, Dhoni and all new young players), Why all cricketing minds outside india unanimously agree that it is not dhoni's fault as a captain for loosing matches in last two years, even within india ask saurav, gavaskar, ravi shastri, kapil dev, wasim akram - all the people who are not out dated in their opinions about cricket), which batsmen plays the most sensibly without getting carried away on the field? ( one name Dhoni), what has dhoni done wrong or ever being unanimously criticised as a captain whether in tests, one day or t20? what??
Hey fake shamer thomas, you chnaged your nick name but you can't hide your hate. This article is about cricket you should vent your hate in a political article.. what an idiot..
It is not the failure of Indian cricket team rather the brilliance of Pakistani boys who maintained strong grip over the game. Critics of Dhoni should know this fact that no else is there to replace him. He performed well even when on the other hand, wickets kept felling. The mistakes management made was not promoting Raina and Dhoni up on the order instead of Virat and Yuvraj. Had they been both promoted instead of Virat and Yuvraj, India would had been in better position. Raina is fast player, his place is better at third instead of 5th or 6th. Dhoni should be playing at 4th since he can develop match. Virat and Yuvraj should be 5th and 6th. Gambhir should not be in team, openers should be Rahane and Sehwag.
inorder to rebuild indian team, we need quality all rounders,so far we have discovered only one . he is irfan pathan. Next world cup being in australia we have to find 2 or three more like him. All rounders are not supposed to take the role of a front line Bowler or Bats man.We need to find a spinner ie is( who can turn the ball) who can also hit the ball hard.
The team mates disappointed dhoni, in every sphere whether bowling or batting. He tried a lot but the others were just in touch and go form. I support Dhoni.
Muslim terrorists from all over the world go to Pakistan for terrorist training. Pakistan takes no steps to eliminate these training camps. In fact, it nurtures them. This is why Pakistan is known as a terrorist country.
No team is as good as they were previously. Take for instance Australia. They were exceptional against India and SL and when they were pitted against SA, they fell flat on their backs. Fact for India is, they are tired. I am tired of watching these meaningless matches, will Dhoni be not tired. If we are managing a team in an office and were asked to take a break while someone else leads, would be take a break? Never. Same is the case with Dhoni. This series should not have happened at all. I still stand by this team although few are taking it as though they own it. England is taking a huge one month break in between their tests and ODIs and we were thrown in next day in T20. Then next day in ODI. BCCI should be held responsible.
Just remembering the headlines when India defeated Pakistan in Dacca, Asia Cup I guess... When India taught a Lesson in Cricket to Pakistan. Should we expect to see following headline tomorrow...??? When Pakistan taught a Lesson in Cricket to India (again) that too in their own backyard. Chill out mates its just a game... Perhaps both the people in India and Pakistan need a Lesson in friendship!
It is better that selectors and the Indian public realize that this is what the indian Cricket teams is worth as on today. Do not expect much from them since all of them are making tons of money in T20 IPL
Barring a couple of Batsmen, all are out of form. We need to remove them and cannot keep them on account of past glories. Its better we give chance to the younger generation who can shake their body well and have some swift movements on the field. We must also sack the selectors for their poor selection and decisions. There is no shortage for talented players. If we can recognize new players, then we will have more and more aggressive players coming up. These oldies are only blocking the chances of youngsters and the selectors are supporting them
A series of retirements followed by loss of form by the remaining batsmen is the root cause of this problem. One has to be patient till the team gathers itself up as a unit to perform. or is it going the way of our politics or Bolywood? We see failure everywhere. Even our stars and netas are out of form. We have got no other way than wait for all of them to perform.
Remove everyone. Let them sit out, including the over-celebrated Kohli, Sehwag and others. Blaming Dhoni won't solve a thing. A Captain is as good as his team and currently every batsman and bowler looks like a minnow. This team needs to be shaken up, its been lackadaisical and smug. Define clear-cut rules who plays ODIs, T20 and Tests. T20's are India's biggest curse. Even the BCCI administration should be reprimanded. I am disappointed with today's performance. The only solace i can get is probably by watching through the archives of India V Pakistan, Bangalore '96, '02 and the recent World Cup.
The Indian Cricket team today faced humiliated defeat from Pakistan Cricket Team at Eden Garden Kolkata Cricket Ground . Indian Cricket Lovers were confident that Indian Team will perform better to win the match but debacle of the Indian Cricket Team Players have really upset the mind set of the Cricket Lovers .
