Joining the US, the erstwhile Soviet Union and the European Union, the 35-kg Moon Impact Probe(MIP) hit the moon exactly at 8.31 PM, about 25 minutes after the probe instrument descended from the satellite in what ISRO described as a "perfect operation".
Miniature Indian flags painted on four sides of the MIP signalled the country's symbolic entry into moon to coincide with the birth anniversary of the country's first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru, observed as Children's Day.
"It will signify the entry of India on Moon," an ISRO official said.
The MIP is one of the 11 scientific instruments (payloads) onboard Chandrayaan-1, India's first unmanned spacecraft mission to Moon launched on October 22 from Sriharikota spaceport.
Developed by ISRO's Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre of Thiruvananthapuram, the primary objective of MIP is to demonstrate the technologies required for landing a probe at the desired location on the moon.
The probe will help qualify some of the technologies related to future soft landing missions. This apart, scientific exploration of the moon at close distance is also intended using MIP.

I am very delighted and thrilled by this great achievement of our country. My heartiest congratulations to Mr Madhavan Nair and his team of scientists in ISRO who made this possible. The day is not far off, when India would become the super power in Space Research.

This is absolutely ridiculous! India is nothing but a country full of hypocrites. What the hell they achieve with this moon mission! There are millions of people no food,shelter,education. There is no road,rail infrastructure! Inspite of living in this HI-TECH years India lacks behind in every possible necessity an Indian National wish. There is caste system,terrorism,child abortion,rapes,corruption,sexual inequalities,social equalities......the list is endless. This is what India does to show its false face to the world. But it doesnt know that anyone who looks beyond this show-propoganda that India is way behind in giving just the basic necessities e.g even proper sanitation.. Wake up Indians. Stop being proud ....Open your eyes and look beyond the well wall you are living.

This is an outstanding accomplishment. As kids, we are taught a rhyme (in Telugu), Chandamama Raave Jaabilli Raave. The team from ISRO proved that it is indeed possible to realize the childhood dream of reaching the moon and not leave as a mere childhood fantasy. Everyone on the team deserves kudos. We need to confer Bhaarat Ratna's and PadmaBhushan's etc. to these scientists who chose a career not so lucrative and have dedicated their lives to make this a grand success.Well done team ISRO. Well done India.
