Indian audiences matured enough to take films like Mirch: Konkona Sen

Mumbai National award winning actress Konkana Sen Sharma feels Indian audiences had become matured enough of accepting a film like 'Mirch' which portrays women who take their sexual destinies in their hands.

The actress, who turned 31 on Friday said that the film was sophisticated, witty and funny and not a serious take on feminism.

According to her, film goers are mature enough to understand and laud good themes and subjects.

Konkana said 'Mirch' directed by Vinay Shukla depicts four stories and the fifth one connecting to them.

"I play the main part in two stories while Raima Sen is in the other two. Arunoday Singh and Shahana Goswami are the couple in the fifth story in which Arunoday plays the struggling filmmaker," Konkana said.

She said all the four stories are different and not related to each other.

'Mirch' which releases on December 10, is about a young filmmaker played by Arunoday Singh whose scripts are rejected by the producers saying that they wanted "bold subjects because sex sells".

"So he writes four scripts," Konkana said.

The actress said she enjoyed working with Boman Irani, Ila Arun in the film.

She said her transition from meaningful cinema like 'Mr &Mrs Iyer', 'Page 3', 'Traffic Signal', 'Life In A Metro', to commercial genre like 'Laaga Chunri Mein Daag' was not deliberate.

"I had seen 'Parineeta' and liked Pradeep Sarkar's work. I wanted to work with him. Filmmakers also want to experiment with different kind of actors. Unfortunately, the film did not do well," she said.

Konkana said her next Bengali film 'Iti Mrinalini' which revolves round the life of an actress who was once a famous star of Bengali movies, will also release this year.
