Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari has raked up the Kashmir issue at the UN saying it remains symbol of failures, rather than strengths of UN system.

New York India has rebutted Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari's remarks on Kashmir at the United Nations, asserting that the Kashmiri people have "peacefully chosen their destiny" in accordance with democratic practices.

Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai said Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India and the country's position on the issue is well known.

"We have seen the reference to Jammu and Kashmir in the statement of the Pakistan president. Our principled position on the issue has been consistent and is well known," he said yesterday when asked to comment on Zardari's remarks.

"The people of Jammu and Kashmir, which is an integral part of India, have peacefully chosen their destiny in accordance with democratic practices. They continue to do so," he said yesterday.

Pakistan had raked up the issue of Kashmir at the UN again when Zardari said in his address to the General Assembly that "Kashmir remains a symbol of failures, rather than strengths of the UN system."

Zardari had said his country's principled position on territorial disputes remains a bedrock of its foreign policy and that resolution of the Kashmir issue can only be arrived in an environment of cooperation.

Pakistan has raked up the issue of Kashmir at the UN forum time and again but India has insisted that it is its internal matter.

US President Barack Obama has also ruled out any "outside" solution to the Kashmir issue, saying in an interview in July that disputes between India and Pakistan can only be resolved among themselves.

Pak's unwarranted interference into Kashmir by Kumar on 27 Sep 2012

Let Pakistan set right its house flooded with Taliban terrorism. No minorities are spare in Pakistan while forcefully speaking on human rights in India. India being democratic in true spirits Pakistan is trying to flare up communal tensions. Let Pakistan be told by the International community to set right its house sooner or later. KASHMIR problem is blown out disproportionately towards flaring communal tensions. Muslims are safe in India than in Pakistan - the community is well placed and leading a peaceful life comparatively to its counter part in Pakistan

Kashmir Issue by ppsahluwalia on 27 Sep 2012

Zardari is embroiled in a deep trouble back in Pak,he is just diverting his people's attention by harping on Kashmir issue. Now after over 64 yrs its extremely impossible to switch back the clock/people's aspirations at this stage. In any case,as per the UNO resolution of Aug/1948,it was a mandate against Pak,to vacate its aggression from J&k;deliver all those illegally occupied Kashmir areas back to India before any further progress could be made, and to stop committing further aggressions in this area-now called by Pak as Azad Kashmir.Pak,rather defied every iota of the said resolution, and has even illegally ceded Gilgit etc to China, has settled lakhs of non-kashmiries in the said Azad Kashmir, and has been training/arming/infiltrating terrorists in J&k,creating a mayhem of bloodbath over there for over 3-decades.Let's call Zardari's bluff, show him the prevalent true picture with those UNO resolutions.Let the world media visit said Azad Kash to see fate/miserable plight of people.
