Irregularities found in labelling of Ramdev's food products

Dehradun Alleged irregularities have been found in the labelling of some of the food products marketed by yoga guru Ramdev's Divya Yog Mandir Trust, Haridwar District Magistrate Sachin Kurve said on Wednesday.

Citing a report of Rudrapur-based Food and Drug Testing Laboratory in this regard, he said irregularities have been found in the labelling of six food products marketed by the Trust.

The alleged regulatory violations by the Trust have been categorised as “misleading” and “misbranding” against labels. However, the Trust has denied the claims.

The six sampled food products in which irregularities have been found are salt, mustard oil, honey, black pepper, pineapple jam and Arogya Besan.

Citing the findings of the laboratory, Kurve said, “It states that the product is manufactured elsewhere while claims of purity have been made by brand Patanjali, which becomes misleading.”

A notice is being sent in this regard to the Trust, he said.

However, the report does not comment on the quality of the products and cites only alleged violations of regulatory requirements in their labelling.

State food security department had taken samples of six food products allegedly manufactured and marketed by the Yoga guru's Trust in August and sent them to the Rudrapur-based food and drug testing laboratory which gave its report yesterday.

However, denying any attempt to mislead the consumers, president of Patanjali Ayurved Ltd S K Patra said, “No company manufactures salt. It is made on the sea shore. All companies buy it and then brand it.”

LABEL PROBLEM by Ravishankar Iyer on 21 Oct 2012

The quality of the product is of utmost importance. Hence, these mistakes can be rectified. I strongly advise FDA to do similar exercise For example, I had purchased "Safi" blood purifier. However, the tonic smells badly. I did not use the same. Hence, quality of the product is utmost importance than label. I request FDA TO EXAMINE ALL AYURVDEIC PRODUCTS - MORE THAN 10,000 CATEGORIES. ALL THESE PRODUCTS MUST BE EXAMINED FOR ITS CONTENTS THOROUGHLY. WHY RAMDEV'S PRODUCTS WERE SELECTED EXCLUSIVELY. THIS MAY BE DONE WITH POLITICAL MOTIVE

True colour of the Salt by budha on 03 Oct 2012

True colour of this fraudster is in the open slowly. and he wants to lead the anti-corruption crusade..it is like a thief chanting virtue ..and see his supporters have no problem of brand cheating..salt bought from the fields and branded as patanjali and sold at a much higher price..is not that corruption..dont tell me others are also doing same..others are not RamDev..the anti-corruption crusader.

Discrepancy in labelling by atis on 27 Sep 2012

We see similar errors in many products by reputed companies.Even Bajaj motorcycles are only assembled now with parts imported from China. In electronics units of even PSUs ,manufacturing have been subcontracted outside, yet these companies claim to be producing !

Guys go for more important work by Reader on 26 Sep 2012

Guys go for more important work like: Due to politics chasing Ramdev and come up with minor issues like labeling. When our country has bigger issues like food adulteration, seeling at astronomical margins. By the time it reaches our plate, it become 100 times more expensive then what the farmer sells it for.

Food Products quality: Comparison with other make products by Ramniwash on 26 Sep 2012

The Govt is certainly biased and prejudiced against Baba Ramdeo, otherwise it could have picked up samples of other manufacturers too. Baba is doing excellant service to society by selling Ayurveda products at a very competitive rate. The Aloevera, Amla juices of Baba are about 30-40% cheaper than other brands available in market. The Govt has gone insane, but voters do not have any choice. The others politicians are equally bad. We strongly need Right to Reject.

Baba Products Label Patanjali by G.Dwarakanath on 26 Sep 2012

I cannot give any clear opinion as it is a order connected with legal matters. But it is a fact that he lower judicial process is seems be dancing with the tune of State machinery, as the lower Court in district level decisions succumbed from pressuire of Govt.So It is better for Patanjali Laboratories makes products after proper testing by experts to avoid criticism from opposite quarters

Yellow? by Chandran Avinjikat on 26 Sep 2012

The report does not comment on quality. Hence presumably it is a per requirement. Who is bothered about the technicalities? The report and the title are misleading. Do we see somebody's interest?

Mr by BK Chaudhari on 26 Sep 2012

The embiterred Congress Government is indeed very hostile to Baba Ram Dev. The chronological development since the 4th June crack on the Baba, indicates that the Goverrment is a highly wounded boar. Sometimes, it is allege4d that his colleague has false passport, sometime he is accused of tax frauds and in these series is irregularities in his products. The Government will not rest till it finds something to pin down the Baba,. But in the long run it will be counter-productive.

Full report by Deepak on 26 Sep 2012

Let the full report be published, including whether there are violation in quality or not.

There must not be any compromise in quality of food products which causes concern and even health problems for the users.

FOOD PRODUCTS OF RAM DEV by JS Jarial on 26 Sep 2012

It is seen that from time to time complaints have been received about the purity/quality of products mannufactured by the Ram Dev trust. Earlier it was medicine now food products. When the complaints come into light many supporter of Ram Dev come in his rescue by blaming the Government. I am not supporting the Government but if some thing is wrong in mannufacturing the food products/medicine it should be condemned by all and the Government must take strict action against the trust because it is the matter of the health of the public who buy these products for consumption.
