It is silly: Shah Rukh Khan on YRF-Ajay Devgun Film tussle

Mumbai Superstar Shah Rukh Khan finds the ongoing controversy regarding the number of screens alloted for the release of his film 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan' and Ajay Devgn's 'Son of Sardar' "silly and strange" and insists that it is a free market and not "monopolistic".

Ajay Devgn Films Pvt Ltd (ADF) had moved the Competition Commission Of India (CCI) claiming that Yash Raj Films (YRF) was using its dominant position to ask exhibitors to dedicate more screens to its upcoming release 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan' than for his film 'Son of Sardaar' on November 13.

"Instead of being disheartened, it is silly, it is not just right. I don't know how it gets resolved. Is someone going to tell me not to release my film on Friday," Shah Rukh said.

"I don't understand it... I find it very strange rather than disheartening. What is the meaning of all this? The film is coming out, let's pray for each other's film. I think both the movies will do well," the actor added.

Ajay had said that he had filed the notice much before the demise of veteran filmmaker Yash Chopra (October 21) but the news came up only a few days after his death.

Shah Rukh feels it is amusing to talk about all this as it does not seem logical, considering that the makers of both the films are adamant on releasing their respective movies on the same date.

"What are we trying to show by all this... It is amusing. I don't understand the logic of all this," he said.

Ajay had claimed that YRF 'armtwisted' exhibitors to dedicate more screens to 'JTHJ', than his 'SoS', both which are up for release on November 13.

But Shah Rukh insists it depends on exhibitors which film to buy. "I think the onus lies on the buyers. It is a free market, not controlled or monopolistic or even a restrained competitive market. Our logic is consumer is the king, they want to see the film. The exhibitors represent the consumers and they have decided to take our film in x amount of theatres," Shah Rukh said.

Khan also feels that if the makers of Ajay Devgn starrer 'Son of Sardar' had an issue with number of theatres then they could have released the film a week ago.

"My logic is if you are worried that you have less number of theatres then you should have booked it earlier. Because your business house has not done it and the other has done it why are you holding that against us, why is there an issue?" Shah Rukh said.

"If you have an option then you can come like this Friday, it is completely for you to choose. Either do it one week before or after but if you have decided to do it together then release it," he said.

Meanwhile, the Competition Commission has rejected the complaint from actor Ajay Devgn against Yash Raj Films for alleged abuse of dominant position in the Hindi film industry, saying that the plea does not have any merit.

well, I really pity Ajay for unable postponing his movie release and had to fight against yash raj, but again, this has nothing to do with srk, pls leave him alone, he's just one of many actors involved in the movie,

ooops, the war by archana on 08 Nov 2012

the war situation of the 2films being reported by the media if at all is anything ,is hilarious. the sujects of the 2films are totally different as the north and the south pole.where or what is the bone of contention. in the past never have the matters being reported as a warring releases. there is always a flood of films being released at the same time. the real war is concerning srk who is known to deliver very conservative wholesome family entertainers under yrf banner and not an offside subject as jthj where as sos is a apparently typical family entertainer. truth is bitter but once accepted improves everyone,s appetite.be careful next time .cease the war and wish peace for self first and then everyone. namaste.

srk sharuk please be behave like actor not as business man...you are good actor by raj on 07 Nov 2012

Sharukuk please stop .. proving yourself king of Bollywood by smart marketing techniques. Please be brave , honest and straight to prove yourself. You are a good actor. Please do not use smart techniques to overcome competition. you should promote whole film industry as a senior actor as amir does..please allow Ajay to put his movies on cinemas..

free Market by chander p on 06 Nov 2012

In free market one do not need to impose conditions on distributors that you have to show my future movie if you like to show my current one. Condition imposed by YRF on distributors is departure from free market to monopolistic. It Shows insecurity of film makers about their movies success. In this war of monopoly and insecurity ultimate looser is consumer. By doing so they are restricting consumers freedom to purchase product by creating virtual scarcity.

i m also srk fan fan but this blocking ll suck small film producers and they might stop producing films. its not only competion btn sos n jthj, its about fair competion....rich people grow and have command n influence over film industry...its definitly bad practice having agreement of if u want ETT then next film should be released under yrf banner on diwali....its complete monopoly...Instead taking required action the ple has been rejected....shame on indian film industry which follows only top rich brand....thats y we find only few banners in bollywood who are billionere and small producers even dont dare to produce a film because of this unfair practice of blocking theatres...its realy shame....
