In a communication to the CBI director, Jain’s wife Rajni has alleged that Kushwaha was threatening and asking her husband to give a statement in the court in his favour. Jain and Kushwaha, who is also an accused in NRHM cases, are both lodged in Ghaziabad’s Dasna jail. Rajni said that she got to know about the threat when she met her husband some days ago. “Saurabh told me that Kushwaha is pressurising him to give a statement in his favour. Also, Kushwaha had threatened that if he (Surabh) refused to follow his direction, Saurabh and his family members will be killed,” said Rajini, who had also been questioned by the CBI in one of the NRHM cases.
In her letter, Rajini has stated that Kushwaha, who is powerful and well-connected, could harm her husband inside the jail through certain inmates. Also, through his associates outside, Kushwaha could harm Saurabh’s family too.
She has requested for security of her husband inside the jail and also for his family members settled in Moradabad. She has stated that if anything untoward happened to her husband or any family member, her representation should be considered as evidence against Kushwaha. Rajni has sent copies of the letter to the President, Chief Justice, UP Governor, Chief Minister, Home Secretary and Director General of Police.
She denied that her husband had close relations with Kushwaha before the scam was unearthed. “Kushwaha never came to my house, nor I visited his place,” said Rajini.
Saurabh’s lawyer Arvind Maurya said the rumour of Saurabh’s close relations with the former minister was spread by his business rivals.
