Shah Rukh Khan security: India reacts angrily, tells Pak's Rehman Malik to save its own Muslims

New Delhi Union Home Secretary R.K Singh on Tuesday gave a stern message to Pakistan Interior Minister Rehman Malik, saying that India is quite capable of providing security to its own citizens.

Malik had created yet another controversy when he requested the Indian government to provide security to Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan.

Singh further asked Malik to look after the security of Pakistani citizens and not to worry about Shah Rukh Khan.

"We are capable of looking after the security of our own citizens. Let him (Rehman Malik) worry about his own," Singh said.

Congress spokesperson Rashid Alvi on Tuesday asked Interior Minister Rehman Malik to first look after security and safety of Pakistani Muslims who are targeted by terrorists almost on a daily basis and not to worry about protection of Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan.

Alvi said: “Pakistan Interior Minister Malik’s statement should be condemned strongly. He should not meddle in India’s internal matters. The Interior Minister should first look after safety and security of the people of Pakistan. Pakistan is not able to protect its own countrymen

“People of India have made Shah Rukh Khan what he is today. In this country Constitution gives equal rights to Muslims. Pakistan has no right to ask for safety of Shah Rukh.”

Reacting strongly against Malik's remark on Shah Rukh Khan, BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain on Tuesday asked the Indian government to register a strong protest by calling the High Commissioner Salman Bashir, and advised Malik to first look after the condition of Pakistani Muslims.

Hussain added: "Rehman Malik should apologise as his statement on Shah Rukh is like meddling in India's internal affairs.

"He (Malik) should first see the condition of Muslims inside Pakistan. India is best country for Muslims and the government of India provides adequate security to every citizen of the country."

Former Member of Parliament Shahid Siddiqui also said that Malik has misunderstood what Shah Rukh Khan meant to says. In fact SRK had appreciated the rich and diverse culture of India.

"Shah Rukh's father was a great follower of Mahatma Gandhi and migrated to this country. His family didn't come to India due to any force exerted on it - his father was a freedom fighter. I have great respect for the film star as he is an honest human being. Shah Rukh doesn't needs any security because the whole of India is with him and everybody will take care that nothing happens to him," Siddiqui said.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari on Tuesday took potshots at Pakistan''s Interior Minister Rehman Malik over his statement that the Indian Government should provide security to actor Shah Rukh Khan, saying it would be better if the former bothers about the internal situation in his country and introspects about the treatment of minorities there.

Tewari said ''the test of a democracy is not how you treat your majority, the test of a democracy is how do you treat your minority''.

"And the UPA Government under the Indian Constitution has endeavoured to treat each citizen and each individual with the same respect, the same equanimity, which the Constitution entitles him to," said Tewari.

"In so far as the Interior Minister of Pakistan is concerned, he would be better served by bothering about the internal situation in Pakistan and really introspecting about the treatment of minorities in Pakistan and see as to what they can do as a state to improve the condition and plight of their own minority," he added.

BJP spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy terms Pak demand for Shah Rukh's security as unacceptable

New Delhi: BJP today termed as "uncalled for and unacceptable" Pakistan Interior Minister Rehman Malik's demand for actor Shah Rukh Khan's security, saying Islamabad should be more concerned about the minorities living in that country.

"The statement of Pakistan Interior Minister offering advice to India is uncalled for and unacceptable. A statement coming from the Interior Minister of a failed state which had the distinction of harbouring world's most notorious terrorist Osama Bin Laden in its backyard is laughable," BJP spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy told reporters here.

"It is high time that Shah Rukh Khan gives a befitting reply to terrorists like Hafiz Saeed who are not only a threat to India but the entire world," Rudy said.

He alleged that such comments from across the border have started after Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde's statement about Hindu terror. "Regrettably all this started after the recent statement of Shinde against the majority secular Hindus of our country. The remarks gave space to terror elements to make statements about India," Rudy said.

India capable of protecting its citizens: Sena

Mumbai: Sharply reacting to Rehman Malik's statement that the Indian government should provide security to Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, the Shiv Sena today said that India was "capable" of protecting its citizens and is not "answerable" to Pakistan.

"They (Pakistan) should not meddle in our internal affairs. The Government in India is capable of protecting its citizens. Our government is not answerable to Pakistan. Pakistan should instead protect the Hindu minority in their country," Sena spokesperson Sanjay Raut said.

Raut said the government in the neighbouring country should protect temples, which are being demolished by militant groups there.

"Also, there is a serious law and order problem in Pakistan. There is anarchy over there. Pakistan is running terrorist organisations," he alleged.

Raut said that were expecting a response in the same tone from the Home Minister (Sushilkumar Shinde) too.

"But going by the statements which he makes, it seems that he is the Home Minister of that (Pak) country," he said.

The Pakistan Interior Minister made the controversial remarks yesterday while interacting with reporters at a reception organised by High Commissioner Sharat Sabharwal to mark India's Republic Day. He was responding to questions about a first-person account penned by Shahrukh in a magazine, in which the star focused on his experiences as a Muslim in the post-9/11 world.

On whether the 47-year-old actor courted controversy with his comments, Raut simply said, "he may have."

"More than Shah Rukh, South star Kamal Hassan needs security at this moment, as he is receiving threats for his new film," the Sena leader added.

Forget about SRK Rehman; think about Jail.. by India Always, Forever (IAF) on 30 Jan 2013

This is a worthless and useless argument. No one cares about that particular neighbouring country.. It is on its way to the dogs.. It has been rightly said that muslims in India are way better off than the mohajirs over there, let alone the hindus & christians.. who are worse off than the mohajirs!! The PM of that country is so distracted by SRK that he is forgetting to run the govt there. Soon he will be arrested and jailed and life will go on here as always..

Poor comment from the minister by nav on 29 Jan 2013

The history has spoken enough about the Pakistani government, army, and behavior. Very disappointing!

Malik,Mind your own business by Mohammed Nusrath on 29 Jan 2013

Just goes to show the mean and wicked nature of Pakistani Minister who wants to grab some attention and cause discomfort to our Government.Let him first make the streets of karachi a safer place to live where every hour some one is gunned down.Donot be just jealous of India's progress. You too can get there but may be a century later. And donot forget everyone knows how you people treat the minorities in Pakistan. »

srk must be loving this... by sharifah hussein on 29 Jan 2013

if srk had migrated to pakistan, he'd have lived in karachi with majority of the fellow "mojahirs" as the indian migrants are addressed and treated as second class citizens in paki land. srk had been lucky. on one side, he has the indians going ga ga over him for virtually nothing. on the other hand, he's the pakis loving and worrying about him. both he and the pakis know damn well that the safest place for this loud-mouthed walking siren, india's the safest place for him on earth. for all his arrogance, he'd have been kept in his place in any other country including paki land, which he loves so very much. let the indians challenge this srk to pack his bags and go settle down in paki land. then, rehman malik can be his personal body guard and they can express their love for each other every day. isn't that a good idea? go for it srk and rehman!

SRK by Indian on 29 Jan 2013

No rights to talk on SRK by sathya on 29 Jan 2013

Mr Rehman Malik & his govt hasn%u2019t deserved to talk about this. you fail to give security to your own people like Malala Yousafzai and for some journalists who were killed recently in the past.. You first look after the security for your people. India is well deserved in protecting their people.

SRK and Pakistan by r.v.ramani on 29 Jan 2013

Union Home Secretary telling this is a different matter. SRK must also tell Pakistan, 'close your mouth'. But unfortunately he never commented on the issue. Many years ago, when the issue of matching had come up showing accusing finger to Mohd.Azaaruddin, he also played Minority card. SRK o0r Azaaruddin came up in India not in Pakistan. Bye the bye, Congress running behind these people is also very very unfortunate. Such acts of Congress will cost the country

PAKISTAN AND LeT ARE TRYING THERE BEST BY USING DIFFERENT STYLES AND TACTICS TO DESTABILIZE INDIA - CUTTING HEADS OF TWO ARMY MEN - CREATING DIVIDE IN THE MINDS OF HINDUS AND MUSLIMS. 03. RAHEMAN MALIK COULD NOT TAKE CARE OF EITHER HINDU MINORITY NOR MUSLIM MAJORITY IN HIS COUNTRY PAKISTAN. 04. THERE IS SOME HIDDEN AGENDA BEHIND THIS TYPE OF STATEMENTS. PERHAPS TO CREATE LOCAL CELLS AGAINST INDIA WITHIN INDIA. 05. PAKISTANI GOVERNMENT , I S I AND LeT HAVE TRIED THEIR BEST TO BREAK HINDU-MUSLIM UNITY BUT THE DEEP ROOTED BROTHER-HOOD , DEMOCRATIC WISDOM COULD NOT HELP THEM. BECAUSE THEIR INTENTIONS ARE MA-LA-FIDE. 06. MUSLIMS IN GENERAL AND INDIAN MUSLIMS IN PARTICULAR NEVER WILL BE BULLIED BY SUCH IRRESPONSIBLE PEOPLE. 07. IF MUSLIMS A

Natural Fears by ram on 29 Jan 2013

Thanks to our own Home Minister fears of our neighbours are but natural. Why should congress advise Pak Minister instead of their own member who sowed the seeds of suspicion and fear that may be posed by so called Hindu Terrorism

SRK by U Bhaskaran on 29 Jan 2013

we fail to understand as to why Pakistan is worried about our internal matters. Muslims in India enjoy the maximum security and all other facilities. We respect them. Being a man from Malappuram district of Kerala state I had close inter action with Muslim friends and elders. We live in quite harmony. Pakistan should first sort out their own security problem. Almost everyday there are bomb attacks on poor people in their country.

real funny by Prashant on 29 Jan 2013

Rehman malik talking about security? Is even he secure in his country? ha ha ha.
