Trinamool ministers would resign on Friday, Mamata told reporters after a three-hour meeting of the party’s core committee. “We have decided in the name of maa mati manush that our ministers will go to Delhi and submit their resignations to the Hon’ble Prime Minister at 3 pm on Friday, Jumma-bar,” Mamata said.
“We have decided that we are not going to be part of UPA 2... we have decided to withdraw support,” she said.
Mamata said her message to Congress president Sonia Gandhi protesting the government’s reform measures had remained unanswered for four days.
“I generally do not talk about personal communications, but I am now revealing that I sent a message to Soniaji four days ago saying that I cannot agree with the decisions taken by the central government,” she said.
“We gave an ultimatum hoping that good sense would prevail. But they did not respond. Despite being the second largest partner in the UPA, the Trinamool was never shown the respect due to it. For the last three years, one anti-people decision after another was taken despite our strongest protests. From the statement of Finance Minister P Chidambaram yesterday, it seems the Congress is determined to go ahead with its anti-people agenda. So there is nothing left for us... If someone cuts my head off and then asks me to stay, well, that does not work...”
Despite Tuesday’s announcement, the fact that Mamata said the resignations would take place only on Friday, left some ministers privately hoping that a deal of some sort might yet be cut with the Congress. Initial reactions from the Congress camp in Kolkata, however, suggested matters may have been too far gone for a deal at this stage.
Mamata said she would hit the streets immediately to seek the people’s support against the central government. “What reforms? These are all dis-reforms,” she scoffed. “This is not the end either. The next move of the Centre will be disinvestment of the pension fund,” she predicted.
Accusing the Congress of playing the politics of “blackmail”, Mamata said, “When they have a problem with me, they go to Mayawati. When they have a problem with Mayawati, they go to Mulayam. When they have a problem with Laluji they go to Nitish... I understand their game. I cannot allow this. Enough is enough.”
GOVERNMENT IN MINORITY
Without TMC’s 19, govt’s strength in house of 542 is 257.
It has outside support of SP (22), BSP (21), RJD (4) and JD(S) (3)
WHAT HAPPENS NOW
SCENARIO 1: Cong bows, rolls back diesel hike and retail FDI. TMC ministers will resign on Friday, govt has two days to negotiate. TMC’s pullout effective only after Mamata writes to President.
SCENARIO 2: Cong stays the course, runs minority govt like Narasimha Rao. Will find it difficult to pass Bills, but can take key decisions through the executive route; improve the running of railways.
SCENARIO 3: PM asks either BSP or SP to join govt, replacing TMC. But neither UP party may agree to back a govt in which the other is a partner.
SCENARIO 4: Oppn forces trial of strength, govt wins as MPs seek to avoid elections before time.
SCENARIO 5: Cong decides to take the plunge and call elections on its own. Unlikely.

Since the publication of Prof Rangarajan & Manmohan Singh announcement that they would go ahead with reforms it was clear that it would precipitate the political crisis for UPA. Both Mamta and Mulayam wants early elections as their popularity in their respective state is deteriorating. Early election is better for getting an edge. Mamta is facing ongoing pressure from its rival CPM so its ha to steal the show which she did. However, in spite of being a good leader she lack commonsense, considered response and foresight. No opposition party wants to be on the wrong side of the people who are badly dissatisfied by [price hike.
COORUPTION IS ALSO AN ANTI MOOVE AGAINST COMMON PEOPLE, MADAM MAMTA MUST STROGLY LEAVE THESE MESSAGE TOO.
First remove Mr.Chidambaram, as FM, He is bad news for middle class as well lower class people, anti labour, look at his past record you may see it We need Ministers who think nation wise and also globally, has any govt allowed Indians to enter their country to set up(except Citizens),then why should we loose our importance, is their any stake of this ministers in such a setup, or money being put in their Swiss bank account. It looks like that only else how can a 80k minister has crores in his account, New companies in his name, stakes too in his and family name, benami transactions etc., If the govt. feels that diesel has to increased, Cap on cylinder, then they should also have the same rule. they should pay from their pocket every expense the govt makes for them except some allowances, rest should be paid from their pocket, else how can they understand the peoples problem. If we wish FDI's and other foreign investments, then why not their rules for Ministers be applied her too.
Sir,there is nothing to surprise.Agenda of Congress was very much clear to partners of UPA-2.Both are befooling public, first by diverting attention from 2G Spectrum & Coal scam and second by milking at maximum through blackmailing tactics.Mamta has no sympathy with common man. This is all politics.
Mamta in the past had 7 FLOPS BJP not going to gain, momentarily smiles on their faces,Mayawati's BSP watching sure to gain more berth in the ministry, SP not going any where, except light criticism..
Rats desert a sinking ship?
Congress Party is pretty confused in its economic policies. They vacillate between pro-poor and pro-MNC and pro-subsidies and their elimination. It is time they tell the nation the path they want to take. Naturally TMC bound to ground realities cannot be part of this muddle.
sir, I completely endorse Mamatas decision. it is true that Congress govt is destabilising departments into fragments. They are opening the doors for FDI which means our farmers will looseall values of agri-business. This will prevent domestic growth.Economy will be in peril instead of prosperity.
She is bold lady having power to take decisions in correct time. She is simple humble and noble in service to the people.
T.M.C. Supremo Mamata Banerjee has withdrawn support from U.P.A. but Congress has still hopes alive that she will fulfill her commitments of running the U.P.A. Government for full five Years . The T.M.C. Chief had clearly quoted that she has withdraw her support keeping in view the Anti Policies for Common man specially of F.D.I. , hike in the price of Diesel and Six Cylinders to one Family in a Year .She was confident that Inflation has really upset the common man , his pocket and even broken the back bone of the common man .
dear editor, TMS has not done the right thing but created a political crisis which the UPA van holistically solve as there is no principles for Indian political leaders .The only aim is exist nder all circumstances and to achieve this aim indulge in any type of manipulation dated Wednesay Set 19th 2012 Time 0458 Hrs ist
When are the Indian politicians going to wake up to the realities of the real world. A global slowdown, non performing bureaucracy/govt in India and massive corruption. All capped with complete incompetence and stupidity. Privatize for prosperity, job growth and uplifting the populace. We live in a new world, stop putting road blocks in India's progress. Unless we modernize (which means giving up age old inefficient methods) how do we excel compared to others. Stop protecting vested interests and let competition and efficiency prevail. IN FACT END QUOTAS AS WELL, LETS ALL GET BETTER. Mamta has cost Bengal dearly by refusing Tata, let her not sink the whole nation. India can do without obstructionist self centered brats.
