As Singh walked up to the rostrum to make his speech, 32-year-old Santosh Kumar Suman, a member of the Supreme Court Bar Association, stood on the desk, took off his shirt and shouted, “Prime Minister, go back. Roll back diesel prices.”
The incident took place at the high security Vigyan Bhawan where Singh was attending a 'Conference on Economic Growth in Asia and Changes of Corporate Environment' which was attended by Chief Justice of India S H Kapadia, Law Minister Salman Khurshid and a number of legal luminaries from across Asia.
The Prime Minister waited for a while at the rostrum as security officials took the protestor out of the plenary hall of Vigyan Bhawan.
A senior police official said Suman, who resides in east Delhi's Shakarpur locality, gained entry to the venue using a “proper” invitation card.
“The Special Protection Group (SPG) handed him over to us. He is under detention,” the official said.
He said the lawyer was likely to be let off after questioning.
The police said Suman was a member of the Delhi unit of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).
Apparently embarrassed by his partyman's actions, RJD chief Lalu Prasad, a constituent of the ruling UPA coalition, disbanded the Delhi unit of the party.
Prasad's arch-rival and JD(U) chief Sharad Yadav praised the lawyer by terming his action as 'satyagraha' which gave vent to the angst against the government's “so-called reform measures”.
The protest against the prime minister is welcome change. The prime minister has ruled this country for long and is showing us the road to poverty and miseries. This govt protects the rich and is not an aam aadmey govt.As the figure reveals more than 2000 tonnes of gold is with the rich whereas govt is having only 400 tonnes. Now the govt wants the poor to be without gold and hence they are devising method to strip the poor of the little gold they have.
It is high time an unelected Prime Minister listened to the voice of the people, and instead of clinging on to the chair resigned with grace.
How quickly the virus of indecency sperads? A legislator did that and now this cheap prick imitates to get some cheap publicity. Single most reason why this profession has lost it's dignity is because there are a few entry barriers. Any private college can help anyone get a law degree that is considered a license to break the law. now the system cooperates by ' just ask a few questions and let him go'. Why there is fIR for public nuisance? This fellow must be barred by Bar Council of India..
Mr. sudheer... i feel very bad seeing your comment. just remember our father of the nation GANDHI is also a lawyer. he protested british rule. this gentleman shows his dis agreement to corrupt government. he did it not for his family. but for us all. being a citizen how can you say that it is a virus of indecency. why cnt it be a virus of msg.
HEY WELL DONE,NOW IT IS TURN OF AVERAGE CITIZEN TO VOICE THEIR DIS AGREEMENT TO CORRUPT CON-MEN IN UPA.
This is an expression of anger form a citizen concerned. Even though I condemn it, but this person is not alone in expressing his anger. He has represented millions in this country. I feel he has right to protest. People are fed up with this Corrupt, brain dead Govt.
Lawyer has done very well . this is voice of public
It is quite appreciating work by him.
When Lawyer Might have Found and or thought That PM is playing with power of number game ,and not thinking on practical problem of JANTA he( Lawyer) might have thought to act in this way left for attracting mind, The happening is not surprised in the current political scenario,
I am concerned, its a fact that people read the title but not whats inside it. Have you not read the article? It says he was a member of RJD - A political org. Do you need something else to understant that it was a political influence and not a "legitimate" one!
The lawyers association should suspend this man for bringing disgrace to their profession. This behaviour shows uncivilised behaviour of the highest order amongst the so called educated elite of the country.
Uncivilised govt needs uncivbilised treatment. My dear!, why the govt need to notify the FDI when it has not yet discussed in Parliament. Why do things thru backdoor, is it not uncivilised.....
Mr. Freethinker, what kind of free thinking is that? Or you like the Republicans, freedom of free speech but only for us and ours.
Wrong. Every one has the right to protest and as long as the means of protest is harming anyone, it should be ok. This guy has done a right thing.
