Mayor assures a flawless BPL list

Kolkata, April 17 After an all-party discussion at the Kolkata Municipal Corporation today, Mayor Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya assured that the final list of the BPL persons in the city will be accurate.

Giving in to the demands of the Opposition, he said the last date for submitting names will be extended to May 30.

Largescale errors had appeared in the previous BPL list that included even names of rich. "Local borough offices will now ascertain that the list is flawless and I also request local councillors to actively participate," Bhattacharya said.

The Centre has devised a marking system. “We have appointed an impartial and experienced body to conduct the survey.,” he said.
