NPF announces candidates' list for Nagaland polls

Kohima Ruling Naga Peoples Front (NPF) in Nagaland has announced the list of 57 candidates for the Februray 23 Assembly polls in the state.

While Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio will contest from his home constituency Northern Angami II seat, there are eight new faces launched by the party in the electoral battle.

The new faces include N Khriehu Liezietsu, whose father NPF President and Urban Development Minister Shurhozelie Liezietsu has vacated the Nothern Angami-I seat for him, Merentoshi R Jamir, son of chief secretary Alentemshi Jamir from Mongoya seat and Er Kropol Vitsu from Southern Angami, the party's release said.

Nationalist Congress Party too declared 5 more candidates\ for the polls.

The Congress has already named 51 candidates in its first list and the second is awaited.

The ticket distribution of all political parties in the state is likely to be completed by January 31, sources in them said.

Filing of nomination for the 60 Assembly constituencies begins tomorrow and the last date of withdrawal is February 9.

Counting of votes would be held on February 28.
